Ernest Raboff's series Art for Children is a solid introduction to artists. Raboff's book on Henri Matisse tells the artist's story briefly and analyzes several of his paintings, including "White Plumes" and "Meditation."
I would have enjoyed this informative little read on Henry Matisse more if the text had NOT LOOKED LIKE THIS THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE BOOK. Whose idea was that?? It is unlikely I would read any of the other books in this series or recommend them based on that alone.
