Robert James Smith (born 21 April 1959) is an English singer, songwriter, musician, and record producer. He is the lead singer, guitarist, multi-instrumentalist, primary songwriter, and only continuous member of the rock band The Cure, which he co-founded in 1976. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_...
This is an essential reference for the lyrics of the time period listed. It is also an insight into the fact that the other members of the band are credited with lyrics up through The Top LP, and starting with The Head on the Door, lyrics are exclusively credited to Robert Smith. This is in line with some of what Lol Tolhurst has mentioned in his book Cured: The Tale of Two Imaginary Boys, that he had written the lyrics of some songs, like "Pillbox Tales," and on Twitter I had read years ago that he wrote the lyrics for "All Cats are Grey."
In fact, the book is SO essential, that on MTV Unplugged in 1991, when Robert Smith could not remember some lyrics for songs they do not usually perform, like "The Blood," in the backstage footage on "The Cure: Play Out", he can be seen carrying the book with him out to the stage area, folded open, presumably to that song.
I refer to this from time to time when I need to verify a lyric I have forgotten, but that's pretty rare these days, given that I've been a fan for 36 years at this point.
As a long time Cure fan, I had this book when it first got published. After it got lost somewhere in time (and a few moves), I was able to replace it. While covering up to Disintegration and the accompanying B-sides to that album, it's as complete as can be. Shame they haven't released a follow-up volume since the band has had quite a few more albums since.
Found this gem at a used bookstore. It has some nice pictures that shows the band members changing over the years. Besides that its the lyrics to their songs from 1978-89. Songs that I love, so I love this book.
