A pre-9/11 analysis of the budding American police state. Reading this book in 2016 it comes across as prophetic, and speaks well of the quality of McGowan's analytical capabilities, as he had clearly assessed the forces at work and the underlying agenda long before most people caught up in the post-9/11 world. It's easy to read and quite informative, and an excellent book that captures the deep state's machinations on the cusp of 9/11.
a bit too glib, perhaps, and maybe somewhat schematic. more of a summary of objections, with the stated goal of protecting 'democracy,' which is a moderate liberal goal, of course, rather than a frothy lefty dream.
