Gerry Blair was a lifelong outdoorsman, law enforcement officer, author, and expert rockhound whose passion for nature and knowledge left a lasting mark on those who knew him. After serving in the U.S. Navy, he began his law enforcement career with the Phoenix Police Department, later joining the Arizona Highway Patrol. Rising to the position of Zone Commander for northern Arizona, he balanced a demanding career with an enduring love for the outdoors. Gerry was a skilled hunter and trapper, known for his expertise in predator calling and firearms, and earned national recognition for harvesting the largest elk recorded in Arizona. In retirement, he channeled his experiences into writing, producing numerous articles and books that reflected his deep knowledge of wildlife, hunting, and outdoor life.
His passion for rockhounding led him across Arizona and into parts of Mexico in search of minerals and gems. As a contributing editor to Rock and Gem Magazine and author of Rockhounding Arizona, he guided countless enthusiasts in their own collecting journeys. He also judged cabochon competitions and enjoyed lapidary and silver work, a shared passion with his second wife, Beverly.
