The little Lighthouse Keeper is an adorable book about a little mouse called Henry. He lives in a lighthouse with the lighthouse keeper, helping with the daily running of the lighthouse. One day he wakes up to find the keepers gone, the keeper leaves a note but Henry cannot read. So Henry decides to carry on with his chorus like any other day, but he then realised there is a job he has never done without the keeper. Henry needed to go all the way to the top of the lighthouse to turn the light on. He started to make is way to the top but her fell, landing in a spiders web. Henry and the spider make friends and the spider helps Henry get to the top. When they reach the top Henry pulls the switch but nothing happens, he realises the bulb as gone… but the bulbs are at the bottom of the lighthouse. Which is a long way for the little mouse, spider returns with help from a puffin. With their team work the bulb is replaced at the lighthouse and is lit up, protecting boats from the rocks. When the keeper returns he is proud of the little mouse and grateful to spider and puffin for their help. This is a lovely book to showing the importance of friendship and how things that once seemed impossible can be achieved with teamwork and determination. I enjoyed reading this book and would use it in foundation and KS1.

Use of perspective as the salt and pepper were bigger than the mouse. I like the message of the book which shows some things can be hard to do alone but together they are easier and small things can make a big difference. Children could discuss jobs that animals do. What jobs are the children good at. Design and build a lighthouse consider features and location.

This is a nice little book. I hate mice in real life, but I think the point of this book is that size doesn't matter who well you can accomplish tasks. This is a great book about team work! I like that there are talking points in the back of the book! The pictures are cute and well... I love Lighthouses...so...can't go wrong there!!

This is a beautifully illustrated book and the storyline is a wonderful one as well. My 3 year old granddaughter and I enjoyed it together. A little mouse saves the day after the human lighthouse keeper goes out. He and his friends work together. pretty special book.
