Amazing! The series just gets better and better! The characters are incredibly layered and the plot is provocatively amusing. Can't wait to read the entire series!

In this volume, Kenshin approached his former master, with whom he was estranged after a disagreement in politics, to complete his training and inherit the succession techniques of their sword school. He also received a new sword as a replacement for his broken reversed-edge sword after his aborted duel with Shishio right hand man, Seta.

The moment that lead to the reveal that Kenshin's new sword was a sakabatou, or a reversed edged sword was better depicted in the anime. The one in the manga may be an emotional rollercoaster, but I think the anime really nailed the moment and went beyond it. I remember the look of desparation of Kenshin's eyes and his own inner conflict on whether to use a sword that would have broken his vow not to kill. An innocent life was at stake and he did what he had to do. The relief he felt upon his discovery that he had not reverted to his killing ways was palpable and the anime did an excellent job of transmitting that to the viewer.

Not gonna lie, I was genuinely terrified for Kenshin several times. Like “oh my gosh is he even going to make it?!?!?” kind of terrified, even though it would be pretty stupid if he was killed off this early in his own series, but I digress because I was STRESSED!!!! Broom Head was threatening to kill a BABY after all, who was to say he wouldn’t do the same to Kenshin???? (I KNOW he’s not named Broom Head, but it fits and I like to insult villains by giving them bad nicknames so leave me alone, okay?)

And Misao is a little spitfire times ten and I love her though Kaoru is going to have an early heart attack now that Misao and Yahiko have met and are bonding on pure energy and lots of excited yelling, haha. 😂

And the twist with the sword…!!! 😱 I did NOT see that coming; truly masterful writing there! And Kenshin’s former master is…as opposite of Kenshin as you can get, lol. It’ll be interesting to see how long he’s in the series.

‼️Content‼️

Language: hell; what the heck

Violence: fighting with weapons and hand to hand (PG-13 to R); injuries and blood (PG-13 to R); a girl kicks a guy off a balcony; a mother has a brief thought flash of her baby dead with blood under it; a man is punched; a bird slams into a guy’s head

Sexual: a woman wears a very low cut dress; a shirtless guy

Other: a baby is kidnapped and threatened to be killed several times (the baby isn’t harmed)

Rurouni Kenshin, Vol. 10 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next nine chapters (76–84) of the on-going manga series.

Shishio Makoto discovers Himura Kenshin's location and sends Sawagejō Chō, one of the Juppongatana, to stop Kenshin from receiving a new sword. Chō loves swords and wants Shakkū's last sword for himself. When Seikū Arai explains that his father's last sword was donated to a shrine, Chō kidnaps Seikū's son.

Kenshin attempts to fight Chō without a sword, but he is soon overpowered. Seeing Kenshin willing to die to protect his son, Seikū runs into the shrine and gets his father's sword and tosses it to Kenshin. Chō threatens to kill Seikū's son and Kenshin strikes him with a killing blow from the sword. He then discovers that Shakkū's last sword was another sakabatō. Seikū gives Kenshin the sakabatō to keep, and Kenshin goes to his master, Hiko Seijūrō, to ask him to complete his training.

However, Hiko does not think that Kenshin is going to be able to learn the final technique of the Hiten Mitsurugi style because of his history as a hitokiri.

This tankōbon is written and illustrated by Nobuhiro Watsuki. The Kyoto arc continues as Himura Kenshin tires to find another sword – sakabatō, preferably from the master swordsmith Shakkū Arai, who created Kenshin's previous sword. However, Sawagejō Chō, a sword lover and collector wants the last sword of Shakkū Arai himself and would do anything to achieve it – even if he has to kill an innocent boy in the process.

All in all, Rurouni Kenshin, Vol. 10 is a wonderful continuation to a series that seems really intriguing and I can't wait to read more.

The gang comes back together in Kyoto--how will Kenshin handle that, after he so deliberately set off alone and told everyone to just wait for him to get back? It's not entirely clear even at the end of the collection.

Also, Kenshin gets a new sakabato--and by implication a better one--along with some time with his old teacher/mentor. Mostly character stuff this volume, but the ability to balance both that and action so that each appears as needed, and never at the expense of hte other is what makes this book so strong.

Alright, so given that Manga is more of an ongoing story split into arcs that are in no way split up between volumes. I'm going to be reviewing story arc by story arc. This will then be copy and pasted throughout all of the 28 Volumes of the Manga. Also, let's get this out of the way. This is 1. A Reread and 2. Spoiler Warning I won't be directly recapping, but I will use points to describe my thoughts and feelings.

Tokyo Arc - Acts/Chapters 1-47 - Rating: 8/10
-A great start for a historical fiction. A bit on the nose, but I generally find with historical fictions you have to pretend that no one knows what time period you're talking about so it's nearly unavoidable.
-Great character work. Each Character introduced in Kenshin's gang are examples of how the war has hurt these people. This reflects on Kenshin as he was a key figure in the war that caused all these people that he growing to love, pain. Whether it's Yahiko who lost his parents to draft of war. Or Sanosuke who joined the rebellion and through political means lost his captain and the person he admired most. Or even Kaoru, who attempts to run a dojo in a time when Swords are forbidden by the government. All of these are monumental in Kenshin's redemption from the wrongs he has committed.
-My issue is moreso in how these conflicts come up. They seem very much villain of the week story. And most Shonens are when they initially start and I understand that. Some do it great. (Yu Yu hakusho) some do it terribly (Reborn) I think RuroKen does it OKAY. There are a lot of conveniences and Kenshin is the type of character who can nearly fix everything at any point because he's Kenshin and he outclasses the people they face.
-This arc is really split into 4 mini arcs. Beginning 6/10. Sanosuke Arc 9/10. Jin-E Arc 7/10. Oniwanbanshu arc 10/10

The Kyoto Arc - Acts/Chapters 48-151 - Rating: 9/10
-Phenomenal Arc. Kenshin must tackle with the concept of whether he can keep his oath against a man who is arguably his better. The man who replaced him as Hitokiri. Shishio Makota.
-The jupponganta, the villain group of this ark are all well designed and each one makes perfect sense why they would follow Shisho. Whether they love, respect or just want to kill him. Each one feels like a tough nit group. As for Shishio himself. He's one of those cool villains. I understand why he is and why he's so charismatic. But as far as being an actual villain. He doesn't do much. I think that's to his benefit. His whole concept is realistic in terms of, he has a time limit to how long he can fight. Which is why he created the jupponganta. But that doesn't make him still do so little in the story besides sit and wait for Kenshin to show up. My only real gripe.
-Kenshin conquers all of his fears and redeems himself completely towards the government by stopping the man that replaced him. Mastering Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu and finally allowing his friends to help him. It's a profound and beautiful arc that makes Kenshins character shine.

Jinchu Arc - Acts/Chapters 152-255 - Rating: 7/10
-Where in the last arc we saw Kenshin redeem himself in the eyes of the government. This is the arc where we see Kenshin redeem himself in the eyes of himself. When his Brother in law returns from China and threatens his friends and everyone he's grown to care for over the last 151 chapters Kenshin struggles with the reality of what murdering his late wife has become of Enishi.
-To me, there are three chunks, but they all work towards the same goal. The beginning.(7/10) The Flashback. (9/10) The End (5/10)
-The flashback is the strongest part of this. It was the missing piece in Kenshin's character and it really helps us figure out how and why he became who he became. He smiles constantly because his late wife wanted him to smile more. It's so sweet and tragic.
-However, the actual arc collects a bunch of random riff raffs to challenge Kenshin and his group of friends that also kinda have "beef" with him. But this and the end were pretty much the weak parts of this arc to me. The one dudes whole problem was that he got his hand cut off....and Kenshin DIDN'T kill him so...he decided to lose his whale-like mind and join a terrorist group. Two of the others had people they loved died. Who weren't good dudes btw, they were villains. But still...revenge. The other guy had some kind of clan responsibility but when he was defeated Kenshin just told him to go back to his family so it really wasn't an issue. And the final guy...well he didn't even have a beef. He just wanted to test out his mega unrealistic puppets. I'm talking Naruto unrealistic for a historical fiction.
-But all of those dudes at least had reasons. The villains in the final part were all just throw away villains that even Watsuki reveals himself were just throwaways. They aren't too compelling and giving the characters we have grown to love a final fight may have been appreciated by me the initial go. (because I was 14) I just found myself not caring whatsoever about these fights that lasted a whole volume by themselves upon rereading.

Overall, Rurouni Kenshin is a fantastic historical fiction centered around fantastic real life historical individuals. It's ability to write honest, true characters of the time period makes me remember them and I truly found so much more good in this series with the reread. The biggest issues this series has is staying consistent and opting to expose it's lack of authenticity for grenade launchers. Overall 8/10

I literally had a conversation with a friend of mine right before starting this volume about the idea of a sakabato. While I've never really questioned why Kenshin would have something so roundabout like a reverse-blade sword, my friend - having never read or watched Rurouni Kenshin - said he thought it was kind of silly and ridiculous. Now here I am in volume ten and we actually got something of a backstory for it! You love to see it. Kenshin's old master is also introduced to us, and Kaoru and Yahiko final find Kenshin. I'm just dying to see where things continue to go.
Onto volume 11!

Kenshin is in need of a brand-new sword! Nothing in Kenshin's world is as easy as it could be...or should be. But then again that would not make this book as wildly entertaining as it, so I guess that's why things are the way they are. Kenshin races to the aid of a helpless child and to me, that is the reason we all root for Kenshin's success. He truly cherishes life...especially for someone so acquainted with killing. I feel the villain from this book is courtesy of King of Fighters Duck King...but maybe...just maybe it's me.

The fight against Cho is cool, as well as when we learn about the new sword. But this volume is most memorable because Hiko Seijuro is introduced, who to me is the most amazing character in the series.

Oho! Akhirnya ketemu Seijuro Hiko dan Kaoru juga. Horeeee xD

Ternyata Kaoru dulu sempat cemburu dan salah sangka sama Misao, ya. Btw, yang bagian Kaoru diculik sama bajak laut itu ntar di jilid berapa, ya?

I always enjoyed the creativity of the swords used. A thin bladed sword than can be swung around like a whip seems next-level... even if unrealistic.

Samurai X 10 Guru Hitenmitsurugi

Plot:

Komentar: style gambarnya keren2, terutama bagian kemunculan Cho.

Today's post is on Rurouni Kenshin volume 10 by Nobuhiro Watsuki. It is 192 pages long and is published by Shonen Jump. The cover has Kenshin and compnay on it looking very cool. It is the tenth volume in the long running series you will have to have read the first nine in the series to understand the story. The intended reader is someone who likes historical stories, manga, and interesting characters. There is no foul language, no sex, but some violence in this series. The story is told from third person close following different characters. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the book- His sakabato broken in battle, Kenshin seeks out the man who forged it--Arai Shakkû--only to be turned away. Seikû;, son of the legendary swordsmith, had for a time been continuing his father's work (the forging of katana, meant for killing), but has since given up that calling and spends his time making humble cooking knives. Respecting Seikû's wishes, Kenshin leaves without the desired blade...but not before Shishio's spies learn that Shakkû has forged one last sword. Meanwhile, Shishio arrives in Kyoto with orders for his ten generals or "Ten Swords" to join him and put into motion a plan to take over Japan. Chô, one of Shishio's "swords," learns early of Shakkû's final blade and determines to secure it at any cost. Now, armed only with his broken sakabatô, Kenshin must face Chô in battle...

Review- A very battle heavy volume this one. With Kenshin searching for a new sword a villain appears. They battle and it over-the-top with jumps, dodges, and unreal swords. Chô wants to fight using different swords and he likes to kill with them. When Seikû does not have his father's last sword, Chô kidnaps his young son to make sure that Seikû is not lying to him. Kenshin, of course, wants to save a young child from the crazy guy. Kaoru and Misao met, ending with Misao leading her to Kenshin, who is with his master to try and finish learning Hiten Mitsurugi-Ryu style. And there the volume ends. So much goes on and so little at the same time. With events moving from Shishio's end and Kenshin trying to get better, I cannot wait to see where we are going next.

I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

The majority of this volume revolves around a battle between Kenshin and "Sword-Hunter" Chō. Honestly, Chō totally won me over and I couldn't get enough of him and the baby Iori. When the baby is all bundled up, hanging from the tree branch, and Kenshin is talked to him, I melted. So cute!

The end of this volume leaves is with Kenshin and Kaoru being reunited. I've missed them together so I'm glad to have part of the clan reunited.

Can we please get a bit less side notes from the author? It's kinda irritating.
The story itself was not that interesting to me this time. Although I liked the little family. Especially the baby boy who is so fond of Kenshin. He was a cutie <3
Also I loved Kenshin's master. He really showed Kenshin where his place is. I just enjoy the dinamic of their relationship.

Now this is an interesting development! This is further than I've ever read before. It's interesting to see Misao and Kaoru come together, and more interesting still to hear more about Kenshin's past.

But this volume does need more Sanosuke.
