Brokenhearted and bitter, Shadoe Sinclair vowed that he would never return to Oregon, never look back on the past that had destroyed his hopes and dreams, and never think about Lilly McFall, the woman he truly loved. Loving Lilly meant facing the truth, and Shadoe feared the truth would destroy her.
When Shadoe returned home to bury his father, Lilly knew she should ignore the handsome rogue who had hurt her once before. But while his secrets were dark and dangerous, in his arms she found an ecstasy like none she had ever imagined. Their passion was a temptation Lilly could not deny, and this time around she was determined to do whatever it took to satisfy their forbidden desire.
Hmm. We'll see. From 1993. I picked up a pile of these from a 2nd hand bookstore, so it's a bit of a mixed bag. Will report later.
Well I persevered and finished it. 393 pages of misogynistic cowboys, lies, deceit, gunfire and hangings. And very little smut. One grope in the dark in a buggy half way through the book and a few marginally twitchy episodes 3/4 of the way in.
I have to say it was like reading the script for an episode of Dallas or High Chaparral. The writing was good, but frankly I wanted more then it gave.
So even though it was well written and the lies and deceit were eked out well, I would have to think twice about reading another book by Jane Harrison.
