Story Behind the Book
"Our whole identity with Christ is found in the cross. It was there that God dealt totally with sin. And it is there that God intends us to be united with Christ in His death so that we would forever hate sin, abhor sin, and forsake sin. In our intimate relationship with Christ and His crucifixion, God intends for us to obtain His perspective on sin–to feel its horrors, as Christ does, and then to let God put sin to death in our lives–as He did in the crucifixion of His Son. The victory accomplished through Christ’s death and resurrection is the very same victory we can experience daily in our lives! " –Henry Blackaby
This was a fabulous book to read Easter weekend, which is when I read it. Getting re-focused on the cross, Blackaby makes several points backed by scripture on the importance of the cross, the message of the cross, and how we are to take up our own cross to follow Christ. The short chapters were broken down into even smaller bite-sized pieces, so it was easy to both read in snatches - and to chew on a particularly poignant thought for awhile without losing your place. If you've ever wanted to meditate on the importance of the cross, this is one I'd recommend.
Fantastic book to read around Easter. It dwelt on the areas surround the cross from not only a historical position, but deeply delves into how the cross is to be a central part of the daily life of a believer. I was challenged to allow God to radically deal with my sin on a daily basis and not take Christ's sacrifice lightly by simply ignoring the power and grace that are available to me.
What a profound read. Brother Henry Blackaby is a great writer. He pointed out many points I had not actually thought much about. It was real food for thought and helps me immensely in my Christian walk. I intend to read “Experiencing the Resurrection” following his recommendation that we need to also experience the resurrection.
I have never met the author but a cousin, who was a missionary in Uganda for 26 years has and told me quite a bit about him. I will be reading many more of his and his sons’ books.
I thank the Holy Ghost for leading me to this book - twice. Once when I was still a babe and wasn’t ready for it’s meat and now that I have put away childish things. God is awesome and amazing and He knows exactly what we need and what we can handle. Thank you God for this book.
I love the way Henry teaches, he's inspiring. After reading his books, I always feel like I've learned something important about salvation. Recommend this book to everyone.
This was a great book and helped explain the depth of love that God and Jesus have for us. Favorite Quote: "God's Word says that I'm never again in bondage to sin, and I don't have to sin"
