In 1930 Sirovich 'Medical science is almost powerless to redeem these unfortunates.' Today we say treatment can work, but the fact is it works for relatively few...". One wonders what Fernandez might have written if he had been to Betel.

Compelling stories of how people aound the world have broken out of the cycle of addiction in Christ and in community. The stories are not easy to read; Chevreau writes honestly about addiction, crime and physical self-abuse and the abuse of others that's tied to heroin addiction. There are no traditional "happy endings" in these accounts, but there are real stories of real hope that comes through faith.
