This volume... was a volume. Chocolate Disco was a bust. It felt like a throwaway fight to give Gyro something to do while shit goes down. It could have been more consequential is Chocolate Disco's user was built up or had a personality, but the whole thing amounts to a blip on the radar.

I have to criticize having your main character get brutally shot in the face multiple times, only for it to be a given that he's gonna be fine. Not for a second did I think Johnny was in danger. Araki has utterly destroyed the concept of mortal damage in his series. But at this point, I've kind of made peace with it.

The mystery of who shot Johnny was built up pretty well. I liked the initial confusion with the people in the park, followed by conflicting accounts of the story. The image of characters attacking while draped in the American flag is compelling. There's not a whole lot to say, as much of the volume is just build up. It is cool to have so many conflicting and competing sides. And seeing important biblical moments depicted in manga form is pretty surreal.

Speaking of the visuals, I took a look through the black and white version of this volume and it was pretty amazing. Araki makes such masterful use of shades, to the point where very little of the manga is purely black or white. The whole thing is illustrated in shades of grey, much like the story.

—You tried to lure me into a trap just now...! (...)
—Is it time to be complaining about things like that?

Everything's making me so nervous that that silly dialogue made me laugh. Such a cliffhanger!

D4C is definitely an interesting Stand so far. I appreciate the way Araki shows what happened with the shooting from various conflicting angles, adding further mystery to D4C's ability. It seems to be a decent evolution on the standards set by Za Warudo, King Crimson, and Made in Heaven, though it's maybe a bit imbalanced since this is the first "final boss" Stand of the new universe, and already it shows more complex power than some of its predecessors, despite earlier Stands in SBR being less wild than those found in e.g. Stone Ocean.

The Chocolate Disco is alright as well, for how short and simple it is, but it's overshadowed by everything involving D4C, especially considering this universe's Dio is kinda-sorta a good guy in his opposition to Funny Valentine.

I kind of feel Johnny's Perfect Rotation isn't too different from Stone Free's "I can do whatever the plot demands with my strings" thing from later in Stone Ocean.

the last chapter in the volume!!!!

I feel weird giving 3-3.5 star rating to this volume because the art is 5 star as usual and the plot has many cool moments, Araki has created so many fascinating time-manipulation (time-fckery) stands and powers, he really excels at it. However, I took a long break between first two chapters and the rest of the volume and it didn't leave a strong impression over all.

But like I said last chapter!!! The shifting alliances are fun and I'm excited about the next volume.

Series: Steel Ball Run #17
Rating: 4 stars - It was really good

This volume starts with Johnny and Gyro trying to find Dio but they quickly find themselves in a trap set by the president. Gyro goes up against Di-s-co and his stand Chocolate Disco who create grids that he can manipulate where the damage occurs, think battleship. It was an interesting and short battle. I liked how Gyro quickly handled him. While Gyro was handling Di-s-co Johnny was being attacked and shot by an unknown enemy, who may actually have been a friend, and his status he escaped by going down a grate.

The president now has the whole body except the eye Dio has so he is taking steps to take down everyone and take over the world. At the end of this volume we see the president step into the battle himself by going after Dio and Wekapipo himself and it's the first time we get to see his stand in action. I am interested in seeing how this battle will go. Dinosaurs and steel balls against an unknown silent stand.

Memes in this volume:

We live in a society 2.0

Still not as cursed as Alessi's "rero rero"

I'M THROWING AWAY MY HUMANITY, GYRO
Also... Sans?

Gyro: Or... is he still running away because someone attacked him?
Uh... I don't think Johnny's running anywhere...

finally we are getting more of the jesus lore. is joseph of arimathea canonically the first jojo?

it's a shame so many people read this series in colour, because the b&w ver of this volume is truly some of the most gorgeous art araki has published.

4 estrellas.

Interesting, but confusing. The art is a standout part of this volume. The style seems a bit different than that of previous volumes.

I don't recall the connective tissue of the story beyond this point and am very much looking forward to seeing this story come together.

Pretty good 7th part of Jojo’s bizarre Adventures and far from the best! This series lacks awesome intense fights and the story of this series was dull😭😁❤️❤️
