I've been reading a lot of Brenda Jackson lately. I expected this one to follow the same cookie cutter format:

-Boy meets girl. He's a player so he wants a fling.
-Girl wants something serious and refuses to settle for less but some how her panties fall down all
by themselves and she has sex with boy.
-Insta-love, marriage within two weeks.

This is the formula that I've come to expect with Brenda Jackson novels. Since I come in with low expectations I usually enjoy the books.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that this book had an actual story line. The characters actually took the time to get to know each other and had developed genuine feelings for each other before they had sex. (Truly shocking).

I was equally surprised to find that there were supporting characters and a side story. Not only did we get to read about Bas and Jocelyn, we also followed Reese and Leah. Their story was so interesting and had me on the edge of my seat. First I wanted to know why Leah was staying in town, then I wanted to know what she was hiding. Finally I waited for the moment when she told Reese what happened and their story would unfold.

I was all over this book. It got to a point where I couldn't put it down. I was on chapter 14 of 15 when things fell apart.

This book started off so strong and then with the ending the author ruined what should've been an epic read. I was so prepared to give it a five star rating but that ending just made me angry. My rating is 3.5 stars purely out of frustration.

Good book. I liked Sebastian. He came to Newton Grove to honor the last wish of the man who had been his mentor, to help out at Mason Builder and make sure things were running smoothly. Jocelyn was not happy to have him there, as she saw no need for his input. I did like the way he helped without trying to take charge of everything. One thing they did have in common was a mutual attraction. When they finally gave in, it started as an affair with a known end date. Their feelings began to change, though neither one would admit it to the other, until the end. Sebastian hadn't been expecting it, and wasn't sure at first that he wanted it. Jocelyn had closed herself off to love because she felt that love equaled loss. I liked the way they got together at the end. I also liked the side story with Leah and Reece, and was very impressed with the way that Reece was taking care of Leah.

The Heat is On...

Can't say it was my favorite Brenda Jackson novel. However, it was still a great read. This is the first book in the Steele Family Series that I have read, I must back track and read Chance's tale. The story centers around Jocelyn and Sebastian - two completely opposite people yet you feel the sparks between them from their first meeting. Thoroughly enjoyed their heated attraction. Night Heat also contains a very endearing secondary plot involving Jocelyn's sister, Leah and Reese, her lost love. Which I think I enjoyed more than the main story and wouldn't have mind reading more about their situation. All in all, Brenda Jackson knows her stuff and she has yet to disappoint me.

Love the Steels they are the sexiest men times the 10th power. Sebastian is a shark in business, he wants to take over Mason's Builders which is struggling. Jocelyn is not giving in so easy so Sebastian needs to go and convice her about the company. Love it it was a good read for me and I love the series as well.

Bas and Jocelyn meet after her father dies and leaves a quarter of Mason Builders to him in the will. With the stipulation that he stay for 6 weeks and help out with the company.
Jocelyn resents him and doesn't understand why her father could do this to her.
I'd say there was some sparks from the beginning for these two.
I enjoyed this story. Fast read.

The Mason Women Find Love! 3.5***** Spoiler Alert!

Bas received notification that his mentor, Jim Mason, died and left him 25% of his construction business. He immediately headed to TN, to understand why his old friend needed him to be with his daughter Jocelyn, who had been running the construction company since Jim's illness and death. Bas, on medical leave, upon his arrival in Newton Grove TN, was struck by Jocelyn fiery temper and beauty, started to fall in love with Jocelyn, as he began to understanding her encased heart after losing her mom, aunt, and dad. Bas learned to relax and Jocelyn opened her heart to Bas' tender administrations. Meanwhile Jocelyn' s sister, Leah, returned for their father's funeral and finally revealed the reason for her hasty exit out of town and away from her true love, Reese. Of course Reese found out and stood by her as together they overcame Neil B's traumatic rape of a 17yr-old Leah. Yes, both sisters found their true love with a HEA ending.

Well rounded characters and an interesting sub plot made this novel an appealing Summer read. The theme of taking risks in life and living for a better tomorrow ran through this novel. I was surprised how easily Joc gave up her Dad's construction company to move away with Bas, but financially it made sense. Two brothers down, and two more bad Steeles left to find their soul mates.

Sebastian "Bas" is bad ass!!

Bas was mad as a "cat on a hot tin roof" when told he needed to take 3 months off from work due to his health. Well an old friends death makes this decision a little easy to handle when this friend leaves him a fourth of his corporation "Mason Construction" and a request to oversee some things there. What he didn't count on was Jocelyn Mason being a force to be recond with. Jocelyn was angry that her father left a fourth of their family business to Bas. She is angry, and won't allow someone else to come in and try taking over. But of course the attraction to each other is hard to resist. So i like how they finally come together.
I must say though, the most heartfelt reading of this book was between Leah and Reese. So much hurt and anger for them both, but yet deep down they still loved each other. Its unfortunate what Leah had happen to her, and the years of not being able to share that with not only the man she loved, but her family as well. Love that Bas and Jocelyn found love with one another, but I am thrilled that Leah and Reese will get a second chance with each other. So her sorry rapist (though dead) does win. Another "Steele" brother has found his forever love. 🙂👍👍

Night Heat. A great enemies to lovers story. Sebastian helps run the Steele empire. He gets bad news from his doctor and needs to take time off. He also gets a letter from George Mason's lawyer letting him know that he passed and left something for him. One summer as a teenager, Bas was sent to Tennessee to work for Mason and grew to appreciate and respect the man. Bas goes to Tennessee to talk to the lawyer. He finds out he is given a portion of the Mason Builders company. Mr. Mason's daughters own the rest of the company. Jocelyn, Mason's daughter was furious and didn't want Bas anywhere near the company. But she ends up giving in and Bas and Jocelyn strike up a relationship that they want to last forever.

Learning to release hurt and abuse and being open to love, is a beautiful thing. I am/was Leah, was molested at 6 then date raped at 19. I hated men and would not allow them the truly touch me, without pulling away. I can also see myself in Jocelyn. Rejecting love because people you loved have passed on and you feel so so alone. No one to talk your troubles through, let alone anyone to trust with your heart.

Exceptional

I have started to enjoy Brenda Jackson's writings and the Steele stories. I am entertained whenever reading this author's books. Not only feel good happily ever after but immigration, rape and psychological help was included. She has a knack for including other important facets within the love stories.

Jocelyn's father died and let part of his business to Sebastian. He also asked Bass to come and help Jocelyn with the business. She resented it and tried not to like Bass even though sparks were flying between them the moment they laid eyes on each other. It took a bit but Bass was able to break through her barriers. I also enjoyed the side story of her sister Leah.
This was a really good book.

Im giving this four stars because I felt like the ending was rushed and not properly developed. There is no way in a few hours she went from rejecting his proposal to packing up her life to be with him

Another great series by Brenda Jackson. Great story lines and even better characters. This was a totally believable plot - I'm sure we've found ourselves in a similar situation once or twice. Hot guy, gives you sample and then out the door. Leaves you wanting more...hmmmm

That was the plan

Her father knew what she needed and had just the man for her. Jocelyn was ready to fight against Bas for what she thought he took from her but she ended up with so much more. Loved it.

Bas and Jocelyn

Thanks for the doubleheader in this love series. Though things got really crazy and hard to deal with, it still shows love and wills can conquer many things and people.

This story was not what I expected, but I really enjoyed it. The two sisters and their separate but equally interesting plots. Definitely a good read!
