Abigail Iris has a half-birthday coming up, and she knows it's the perfect excuse to ask for the adorable kitten up for adoption at her local farmer's market. After all, everyone else in her life seems to be getting something her Only friend Rebecca has a new baby brother on the way, and her brother Eddie has a new girlfriend named Molly. Lisa Glatt is the author of the novels The Nakeds and A Girl Becomes a Comma Like That, as well as the short story collection The Apple's Bruise. Her poetry collections include Shelter and Monsters & Other Lovers. Lisa's work has appeared in such magazines as Zoetrope, Mississippi Review, Columbia, Indiana Review, Pearl, and The Sun. She was recently awarded a fellowship to the Civitella Ranieri Center in Italy. Lisa currently teaches at California State University, Long Beach and private workshops. Glatt is married to writer David Hernandez.

Abigail Iris wants a pet. How does she break this news to her parents? She tells them her "half-birthday" is coming up and that is what she wants. When she and her mother visit the farmer's market they stop at the animal rescue booth. This is where Abigail Iris finds her kitten. Now all she has to do is convince her mother and father to let her have it. When this wish comes true she faces a new problem. What to do with her new pet when her sister has an allergic reaction to it. This was a cute a fun book. This book is all abut changes. She watches her brother change when he gets a girlfriend, she watches her best friends change, especially when one of them is getting a new baby brother. Simple, cute and a quick easy read.

This is a happy book and I'm betting most 3rd grade girls would love it. There is a first book--Abigail Iris: The One and Only--which I have not read yet. For readers who enjoyed Junie B. or Lucy Rose.
