The Best Man is a collection of 4 sexy novella's written by African American women. After reading the last 2 novellas I'm upping my ratings of the first 2 novellas.
Strictly Business by Brenda Jackson - 4 stars
Mitch and Gina used to be married. Their divorce left them both heartbroken. So when Mitch wants to give a no holds barred interview, he picks the best journalist he knows...his ex-wife. Oh and he plans to win her back.
This story was sexy and fun and I was truly rooting for them.
Catch Me If You Can by Cindi Louis - 4 stars
Years ago Lonzell promised Leesa that they would always be together and that he would never abandon her. Cut 4 years later Lonzell has proven himself to be a deadbeat and when Leesa hears he's coming back to town she plans to confront him about a few things.
Leesa and Lonzell's story was sexy and filled with heart. I liked it a lot.
Promises and Vows by Felicia Mason - 2 stars
Jerome and Elise are getting divorced...as soon as their best friends wedding is over. To make matters worse Jerome's Aunt has unexpectedly decided to visit and she's staying with them. So now they have to act like a couple still in love...and they have to share a bed.
This story is the one I'm using for "Fake Dating" since they have fake being happily married. This story was boring and I think the couple should have gotten divorced.
Kidnapped by Kayla Perrin - 2 stars
Jamal and Nia broke up a year ago and now Nia is marrying someone else. Unable to imagine that her soon to be husband can satisfy her sexually, Jamal decides to "kidnap" her on her wedding day.
I was the most excited to read this story but man was I bored. Nia honey Jamal just isn't that into you. He only loves having sex with you.
Overall I liked 2 stories and didn't like the other 2 but I still enjoyed my reading experience. Another plus is unlike with a lot of smutty books in each story condoms were used or when they weren't used at least they discussed rather or not to use them. So major points for that.
Well... I didn't plan on reading this at all but I just explored the area for English novels in my school's amazing library and this was what I've found. Don't get me wrong; there are other "more normal" genres than this...
Anyway, I skimmed this book in less than two hours and this is so far my more-than-favorite new adult book! Although there were lots of graphic, erotic scenes and flirtations among the characters, the overall atmosphere was not bad for me. I'll re-read it more thoroughly next time because I'm now so eager to live in the library. :)
I was happy that this book had 4 stories in it. I liked all 4 stories but my favorite was Story 2. In Story 2 I liked the hot & steamy scenes. I loved Lessa son, he was so adorable. I didn't like Lonzell's mother. I really liked how Lessa & Lonzell stood up to his mother. In Story 1 I liked the hot & steamy scenes & I felt sorry for Mitch. In Story 3 I liked I liked the hot & steamy scenes & I felt sorry Elise. In Story 4 I liked the hot & steamy scenes, I liked what Jamal did, & I felt sorry for Jamal. I liked how this book introduced me to 2 new authors Cindi Louis & Kayla Perrin I can't wait to read more books by these authors.
I just finished this book yesterday and I loved it from start to finish I loved all the stories but my favorites were Strictly Business, Kidnapped, and Catch Me If You Can! I was instantly drawn to the characters from all three of these stories and it made me leaving wanting more it was worth the read. Ladies if you ever get the chance to read this anthology with all four of these sensuous novellas trust me its a book that you curl up in the bed and have a glass of wine or champagne beside you while reading this book its that good.
The love story between Mitchell Farrell and Regina Grant Farrell was a wonderful story that tells how being a "workaholic" can destroy a relationship. It also reveals how misunderstandings and lack of patience/communication can do the same thing "ruin a relationship". In the end, LOVE conquers all! Awesome read!
From "Strictly Business" to "Strictly Enjoyable", I enjoyed this short read. I admire the fact that Mitch was able to recognize his mistakes and do all that was necessary to find himself and his way back to Regina. However, I am curious to see how Sir Drake and Victoria find their way back to one another in the next read!
Brenda Jackson's story was the best. I wasn't drawn into the other three books that followed. The first story had me on the very first pages of the book.
The Best Man: Strictly Business [Regina Grant (journalist) finds out about husband’s abusive past a desire to excel at all costs) Mitch Farrell married and a workaholic causes marriage to fall apart; 911, loss of friend, helps him to realize what’s important. Houston freelance writer Gina Grant Farrell just got a job offer too good to refuse-a week on a Texas ranch to interview the ruthless, ambitious, illusive and very handsome millionaire Mitch Farrell, who happens to be none other than her ex-husband! Is Mitch's proposal strictly business? Or is he planning a sizzling seduction and nights filled with strictly pleasure...?]
Ms. Jackson gives 5 star read
The Best Man: Catch Me If You Can! [At 6'2" and a player for the (Dallas Cowboys), no one can miss sexy Lonzell Jenkins, the best man at the wedding, especially (wedding planner) Leesa Fairchild. Cindi Louis writes a cute romance 4 stars

Mason's book was not my taste 1 star
The Best Man: Kidnapped! [Kayla Perrin's "Kidnapped!" The Best Man/Strictly Business. This book is filled with 4 great reads from great authors. Brenda Jackson's book Strictly Business was the one I read so far. Regina Grant Farrell gets a once in a lifetime assignment to interview Mitch Farrell for an exclusive story. Problem is this is her ex-husband and she doesn't want to be around him. Gina doesn't realize that Mitch is looking forward to this because he plans to win her back. Great read!
I know Strictly Business by Brenda Jackson is a stand alone and I read it but found it again here in this lil Anthology. This review is just for Kayla Perrin's "Kidnapped!" I dislike books with immature, emotionally unintelligent people. This book fits the bill as is the most irritating of the 4 stories. The storytelling was not the greatest and the characters were woefully developed. It's a 1 ⭐ rating for me and that's being generous.
All three authors have winners here / filled with compelling content. I moved from one to the other not skipping a beat - each as enjoyable as the other - well worth the money. All entertaining!!
My favorite of the 4 was Kidnapped!!!! Too hot to read at work!! But all 4 novellas were entertaining. Brenda Jackson is my favorite romance author and all her male characters are HOTTTTT!!!
