There were a few spelling mistakes and messed up sentence structures in this, but overall, I enjoyed it and it answered a few questions I had about the general production of Twilight and the mechanics behind it. Proper review to come soon.

Now for the proper review. This biography (talking about it as if it was one) has been sat on my shelf for a long time, like most of my other books have. Okay, fine, book collecting is a different hobby to reading, leave me alone. And the truth is, is that I should have read this long ago.

Thing is, I actually remember reading some of this, at least I do with at least one side, but I don't know why I stopped.

I mentioned before that this has some spelling mistakes, misplaced letters and messy sentence structures. Around three times I noticed random 'O's by themselves, all after fullstops. I'm not sure how they were missed. Howden needed a better editor. It's also clearly written for a younger audience, preteenage girls who have just started to get into Twilight, who are hyped up on the Team Edward VS Team Jacob argument.

To begin with, I started with Robert's side first, following the natural order of the book. It goes into detail about Robert childhood and upbringing, and interest in music, art and culture. It seems that he wanted to go into acting from a very young age, but never quite had the self-esteem or the confidence to actually pursue it until he saw that "lots of pretty girls" went to this drama club.

It then talks about him landing a role in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire as Cedric Diggory, and other smaller, more obscure roles he'd taken up before Twilight.

The thing about Robert is that he's ridiculous and almost annoyingly modest. He's never thought much of the polls he's been entered in for and won such as "Most Handsome Man in the World" by vanityfair.com in 2009, 50 Sexiest Men of 2010, Sexiest and Hottest Men of 2011 and Sexiest Man in the World in 2012 all by Glamour Magazine. It doesn't quite sit right with me. Probably because of how he was raised, but he doesn't at least bask in this a little bit?

His personality compared with Edward's isn't far off. Robert has the charm, the charisma and good looks, much like Edward, but he doesn't have that moody and depressive state Edward does.

And it's funny because this biography failed to mention how much Robert supposedly hated the film. And apparently he said that New Moon was his favourite? I'm thinking it's because he's not in it as much. It's sad for fans but I don't get how he could have the franchise which made him a star (I know he was Cedric beforehand, but I think we can all agree that in Twilight he had a more prominent role).

According to Amazon, the biography was published on 2nd November 2009, before New Moon had come out (20 November 2009), so this is long before all the drama surrounding Kristen cheating on Robert Pattinson in July 2012 with Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders.

This article by Cosmopolitan states that even after the scandal, they had tried to make it work and stay together but their relationship ended up breaking down a few months later and after all the films had been completed.

Does anyone else think that's a bit... ironic? There's conspiracies surrounding this, such as that they were never together in the first place, that they had a bit of a Katniss and Peeta scandal going on, and that it was all to make the movies sell better (not like they needed any help...?). The cheating could have just been a way to get out of it, to end it once the films were over, but the way it ended put Kristen in such a bad light. If the conspiracy's are true, was it worth it?

If fans had their real life Bella and Edward, it was enough to anyone swoon.

Okay, I'm really not one to start poking about in celebrities' private lives but if their whole relationship was a marketing ploy, then that really makes me sad.

Moving on...

Chapter Thirteen talks about future roles, and one of the films mentioned was Unbound Captives but I can't find a single review on it. All I can find is a Rotten Tomatoes entry with a 92% audience score rating and a dead Facebook page which hasn't had anything posted to it since 2009. The cast was expected to be consisted of Rachel Weisz, Robert Pattinson, who was reportedly fired from the film in 2013, and Hugh Jackman, who pulled out due to scheduling conflicts in 2014. So did this film ever get made? I don't think so. Not if two thirds of the cast either pulled or got fired.

"Expected to be released in 2010."

Another film mentioned was Bel Ami, released in 2012, it received pretty poor reviews.

Robert has been in plenty of films since then, but this biography is 10 years old so why wouldn't I expect it to be really outdated?

I didn't mean to take a big break between writing Robert's side to Taylor's side, but things happened in real life and now I'm back.

I must admit, I thought Taylor's side was great.

From the get-go, we learn that Taylor was already hard working, confident and incredibly multi-talented before appearing in Twilight. I even felt like I was reading a typical high school story, Robert being the shy emo (or at least what everyone else thinks is 'emo') and Taylor being the sporty, jock type. At completely two different ends of the spectrum.

At six, he took up karate and at seven, had already competed in nationals and won three trophies. He then started taking up XMA (no, it's not a type of hard drug) which is a mix of dance, yoga, tae kwon do and kickboxing later combined with early acting career (his first ever audition being a Burger King commercial, which he didn't get). Besides this, he was still going to school and staying up late to complete homework.

So it seems like, before his life had even properly began, that he was destined for great things but I still can't help feel like it was because his parents had the money in order for that to happen. They wouldn't have had the funds if his father wasn't a pilot, or if his mother wasn't a software manager. But it just goes to show how much his parents loved him, and how much they valued him and wanted him to become a hard working, good person like themselves.

The first live action that Taylor starred in was The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl, which, sorry Taylor, was one of the worst films I have ever seen. We never even finished watching it because we lost interested not even half way through, all I remember is the terrible CGI. I think we only started watching it because Taylor was in it in the first place.

On to Twilight. I really did not realise how much Taylor went through to get to play Jacob. He had to endure the pre-werewolf wig and learn how to drive in the first film (learnt how to do the scene as soon as he got his licence at sixteen). He wasn't even considered for New Moon until practically the last minute, where he'd spend the last year before filming, not knowing if he was definitely going to be in the film, on a nutrition and workout regime as well as going to the gym two or three times a day.

We also got a chapter on Eclipse in Taylor's part, and an insight to what happened with Rachelle Lefevre in reference to playing the part of Victoria. I noticed the actor was different, but didn't realise there was this whole drama with official statements behind it. Apparently I did learn something while reading this, and I hoped I would.

The only thing about the ending of Taylor's is that it gets less and less about Taylor. There's a few quotes from the other actors including Rob and Kristen, but they're not even about Taylor so you do wonder what it's doing in there.

I think it would have been better if Howden had written a Twilight intro with all the unrelated Rob/Taylor content in, so it wasn't mixed throughout both of their biographies. That's just my thoughts, though.

It's a good, short read if you want a Twilight fix but don't want to read the whole saga.

Also, look at this beautiful spread.

4

Saya teringat seorang kawan penggemar berat Harry Potter pernah berkata begini:
"Robert P. dipilih jadi Edward Cullen, di vampir keren karena dia kan mati dalam Harry Potter & The Goblet Fire. Seandainya dia nggak mati, nggak bakalan jadi vampir dia, tapi jadi kepala sekolah Hogwarts"
