“Through a combination of tight, well-structured plots and fully realized characters, Chesser has emerged as one of the top indie writers in the business.” Joe McKinney – Two-time Bram Stoker Award winner and best-selling author of the Dead World series
THE QUIET WAR Edited by Monique Happy Editorial Services 106,000 words
After nearly twenty years of direct involvement in the seemingly non-stop combat operations in the Middle East—first as a sniper in the 75th Ranger Regiment 2nd Battalion, then as the youngest member of the Army’s storied Delta Force—Cade Grayson is back home in Portland, Oregon, trying his best to reintegrate into civilian life.
Everything changes when a pair of Pelican cases are deposited on Cade’s porch by a stranger driving an unmarked panel van. Knowing in his gut that the unannounced delivery has a connection to his old life, and that whatever is contained within the hard cases must have something to do with the recent lightning-fast fall of Kabul, Afghanistan and the total capitulation of the remaining U.S. forces to the Taliban, he cracks the seals reluctantly.
Sent by his former Delta commander, the cases contain proof that Al-Simoom, a terrorist organization whose leaders Cade’s Pale Riders team had captured and put away for life in Kabul’s Pul-e-Charkhi prison, are claiming responsibility for the suicide bombing at Abbey Gate—a despicable act that killed thirteen U.S. service members and scores of innocent Afghanis.
But that’s not all. Intel suggests that in the aftermath of the suicide bombing at Hamid Karzai International Airport, dozens of Al-Simoom members melted into the agitated crowds escaping the carnage and stole their way aboard airplanes bound for the United States.
Though the number of Al-Simoom cells and their whereabouts in CONUS are unknown, one thing is With the twenty-year anniversary of 9/11 fast approaching, America is a target-rich environment—and Cade Grayson and his fellow former Pale Riders are at the top of the list.
With no time to waste, Cade sends an overture to former teammates requesting they put life on hold and convene at the Grayson home.
Cade and his reconstituted team learn the whereabouts of one cell leader, verified through facial recognition software. With little more than the city and the terrorist’s last known location to work with, the Pale Riders go on the offensive. Assisted by allies still hardwired into the special operations community and with the unsolicited financial backing of a billionaire benefactor, the Pale Riders set out to find the one thread that, when pulled, will lead to the unraveling of Al-Simoom’s deadly plans.
I hate to day it but I didn't like it. Number one complaint is the sheer laziness from the author for continuing to use his same characters from his other series of Zombie books . I can't stop seeing the family man writer in the Cade character being all bloodthirsty and hard killing terrorists. It just doesn't work. I like to be taken away from reality. I don't care if he is finding the bad guys actively abusing kids and innocent Americans the torture is just nasty. I don't need that in my mind. This is just violence and war game daydreaming from someone who I really enjoyed reading up till now. I just wished I knew what I was putting my money on. Somehow killing Zombies just doesn't gross me out like this did even after I skipped through most of it. Don't even get me started on how much I hate trying to guess which political party is being blamed for all this. Ugh. Did I say I hated it?
Chesser has done it again with this great story starting what I know will be another successful book series. I was excited to read this tale of the old gang Team 6 getting back together again to take out Afghani terrorist cells that have arrived on US soil to create havoc with death counts in the thousands on another 9/11 anniversary. This character driven, emotionally charged tale grabs your attention right from the get go and never lets up until the cliffhanger conclusion. Looking forward to reading more of this series.
Just like Cases team , Shawn again finds a way to bring his tale at you in a new direction. I have to learn to read slower just to make the enjoyment last longer.Great job and like all before, I'm certain I'll read thru another couple of times before the next book. Keep the stories coming Shawn. You spin AA pretty awesome tale. Thanks
It is a adrenaline packed page turner! Great to have Cade and the pale riders back in action. I won’t do any spoilers, but the writing and the research are both exemplary! Thanks Shawn for a great read and thrilling story mate! Can’t wait to see how the story develops in the next book!
As always in a Shawn Chesser novel the action is intense and spot on. The Cade Grayson character is the ultimate warrior. This novel has plenty of fast paced action and keeps you turning pages. Many of the characters from the STZA series are included in a completely different environment. If your a fan of military fiction you can't go wrong with this book.
Shawn Chesser has upped his game with this new series. From the beginning, you are drawn into the fast pace if an aging operator and held fast until the very last page. If you likes the STZA or Rikers Apocalypse series, you will love this one.
Shawn Cheddar can do no wrong. No, not a girlfriend. Lol. Anything you read by Shawn is going to capture your imagination. Well thought out plot twist and tons of research. Ready for the next one in the series.
Though it has been awhile since I venture with the Grayson crew it was easy to fall back into the"family" and join along in his adventure. If you have read how other stories this will not disappoint.
