Anyone who eats a diet that includes sugar (and hidden sugar) or food with grains that are not whole at most meals should read this book. The suggestions the authors have for changing eating patterns for the better are some of the best and easiest to integrate into the current American diet. Not only will their information help cure Candida, but it will make you a much healthier person overall. Great information and recipes.
This has been my go-to guide for many years. I recently started it again. So much information on here. I highly recommend it for those who want to heal.
I was put on a temporary no yeast/sugar diet for allergy reasons. I got this book to find out a little more about the diet. In the first couple pages, the book claims that this diet will cure pretty much all known ailments. Pretty much from that point on I became suspicious. And I think that pretty much summarizes my opinion of the book. It may contain some useful information, but it contains so many claims about how this is the best diet ever, how every health concern is really because of the mycotoxins that fungi release. This includes autism and lung cancer - tobacco probably doesn't kill you the book says, it's the fungi inside the cigatettes and their mycotoxins that do. It quickly gets to the point where you're not sure what's true and what probably isn't. And to be frank, this diet is HARD. And I haven't noticed any significant health changes since I've been on it. So I can't really recommend the book, since all I really got out of it was doubt and paranoia.
When I discovered that candida was leading to my crazy rashes (around eyes, mouth, and up and down arms), this was the first book I stumbled accross. I must say that the diet Jeanne Martin tells you to go on to get rid of candida is devastating and meager. One cannot live on vegtables and chicken alone... three meals a day with vegtables being your only snacks and treats! I went on her diet for 3 days before I was so weak and depressed that I couldn't do it anymore. As I have now read other candida books I recommend them way over this one. However, the one positve is that she led me to some vitamins and supplements that I could take to help with kill the candida as well.
Useful info on dealing with chronic systemic yeast infections. Lots of specifics, such as which foods are "bad," which are controversial (and how one might deal with them) and which are "good."
As someone with a chronic systemic infection, I'm finding this a useful resource. Some of the assertions might be taken with a grain of salt, and the trick to sticking with a low-yeast diet is to cheat occasionally so one doesn't feel too deprived. I don't think that bit of advice is in this book, but my complementary-medicine-loving MD agrees with me on it!
Lots of good information (probably too much actually), but not well organized and repetitive in places. I also found her diet suggestions, while overall good, were really extreme, for example: no microwaves, no leftovers, no plastic containers allowed.
Good information about yeast and treatments. Not so sure about her version of the diet though. It doesn't go along with most any of the other ones I have seen and she includes foods that I don't think are healthy to begin with.
This book is poorly written & constructed, making it difficult to follow. Also, the author seems to have cured her candida problems, but not her narcissism :(
I've done a lot of research on yeast these past few years and this is by far the most comprehensive book I've ever read on the subject! Definitely Worth your time if your into yeast!
