Three go-getting women will do whatever it takes to make their dreams come true.
At La Scala in Milan, soprano Cosima wows the audience while, behind the curtain, her marriage to her fellow opera star Nolan falls apart. On the same night, private banker Juliet embarks on an affair with her boss. And in a council house in London, Mercy swots for her GCSE music exam.
Five years later, Cosima must sing once more on the same stage as her ex-husband - and finds that she may still have feelings for him. Juliet has been sacked, but is determined to get back on track, whatever it takes. And Mercy is now an office cleaner, but is desperate to become an opera singer. As their paths collide, money, sex and ambition become ever more important – in Olivia Darling’s sexy, glamorous new novel.
Thirty-three year old Olivia Darling was born and raised in the West of England.
At the age of eighteen she met an Italian art student in St. Ives and ran away to Tuscany in hot pursuit of him.
The love affair didn’t last but Olivia’s sojourn in Montepulciano inspired a much more enduring passion for Vino Nobile that soon became a fascination with viticulture.
She was thrilled and amazed to be made an honorary maitre-cellerier by French trade association Les Echevins De Bouzy in recognition of her promotion of champagne in her first novel, Vintage.
She was inaugurated alongside the Malaysian Ambassador to France at a seven-course dinner accompanied by eight different champagnes and a “Bouzy rouge.” To die for…!
Her other interests include ballroom dancing (she has won awards for her quickstep) and men who drive Aston Martins. She lives in London, where she is at work on her third novel, Temptation.
I'll read anything. Here's proof! An aspiring Jilly Cooper falls short although there's worse ways to make a living. Poor proofreading does the book no favours either. Nonetheless, an intermittently entertaining read. And the only book I can remember reading that uses the word 'embonpoint' more than once. Darling also seems fond of beds that are 'ocean-wide' - but then, who wouldn't be, if one only had to roll about in them, not make them or move them...
I really enjoyed this book by Oilvia Darling and I am certainly going to be reading her other two works.
This books follows the intertwining stories of three women: Cosima Esposito, an international singing sensation. Juliet, an investment banker and Mercy Campbell, an office cleaner with ambitions to be a opera singer.
Another great novel from Olivia Darling where three female characters follow through a plot of high flying careers, ambition and sex. Perfect 'holiday read' or in fact, anywhere read.
