Good YA book, reading it as an adult it seems a bit thin in spots (and some clunky lines here and there). But that's the "bad" - to the "good," it takes you on a whirlwind tour by foot and horse from Hungary through to Jerusalem and keeps a good mix of dialogue, description and swordplay. However, the tour is rather tunnel-like: the book does not depart for a minute from the main character's limited viewpoint, that of a young crusading knight (Theo), and therefore the descriptions of the journey remains rather one-dimensional ("confused traveller") on cultural and religious matters.
