A LOT can change in a year, and the bestselling SCHOLASTIC BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS has been updated to include all the most recent events with a fresh new interior design!
Whether kids want to know what the world's deadliest snake is, which country eats the most chocolate, who has the most career touchdowns in the NFL, or which state has the largest water park, the SCHOLASTIC BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS 2010 has all of the answers and much, much more! Over the past eight years, kids, parents, and teachers have come to love this kid-friendly book.
Each of the 300 records on pop culture, sports, science, and more has its own page that includes a full-color photograph and a detailed description of the record.
Recommended for grades 4-12. World records in the categories of Pop Culture, Sports, Science, Nature, Money, Human-Made and US. No bizarre records as in the Guinness book. Each page is devoted to one record and includes a half-page full color picture with a detailed description of the record holder (i.e. World's Fastest Passenger Train). A small graph on each page shows the top five in each category. The US category was interesting - one record for each state (largest alligator population, largest water park, etc.). A brief section at the end lists "Most Embarassing Records" (most basketball fouls in a season, etc.). A fairly complete index is included.
The Scholastic Book of World Records 2010 is written by Jenifer Corr Morse. Just like the National Geographic Kids Almanac, this book offers a different reading experience than your traditional book. It's a book you can open to any page and start reading. The world record explanations are quickly delivered in 1-2 paragraph formats. This book would be good for children or adults who like to amass a good amount of trivia knowledge. It would be great for children who enjoy competition. It would also be great for children who don't like to read. I would like to have this in my classroom library for my students to peruse at their leisure.
