The Art Intuition Lib/E: Cultivating Your Inner Wisdom

Rate this book

From the New York Times bestselling author of A Book of Angels, a wise and inspiring guide to strengthening one's intuitive abilities.

Are you intuitive? Do you trust your intuitions? In The Art of Intuition, Sophy Burnham contends that we all have hunches and sudden insights and that we need only awaken to our inborn abilities in order to develop our inner wisdom.

In this fascinating book, Burnham tells the stories of individuals who have "seen without seeing" to illustrate the workings of what she calls our "intuitive hearts." Exploring such topics as how loved ones are able to communicate with one another telepathically to skeptics who deny their power to see into the future, this book represents an important spiritual thinker's take on a subject that is vital to us all. According to Burnham, intuition is always right, and when you receive messages from Spirit-be it in the form of a subtle impression or a thunderous bolt from the blue-you must always, always follow the call.

Hmmmm. Not what I expected at all. Went off in 5 completely different directions and I kept expecting it to tie back in a relatable, actionable way, but it never happened. :/

It was a fascinating read . Influenced me somehow to do this:: I Finished this book yesterday.. last night my friend misplaced his key somewhere.. so they were all looking for it .. i helped too but couldn’t find it. I sat on the chair and closed my eyes and tried listening to my inner voice , tried to “feel the energy “ field of the keys .... nope . Nothing happened to me . Couldn’t feel a shit. Thn just before leaving i checked my pocket.. it was in my pocket. 🤷🏽‍♂️. (Check your pocket first, before summoning the force from other side yap)
Yaa , now i have a strong intuition that i will keep trying to listen to my intuition first . I need to develop these senses...My exams are coming too. will be helpful I think

It was really interesting at the beginning of the book, but I thought it was going to be more of a like “learn to trust your own decisions” book almost semi motivational but then it got really weird to the point of the lady talking about the animals talking to her and then towards the end it just felt like she was bragging about every thing she’s done in her life, wasn’t a bad book but it just wasn’t what I was expecting.

Burnham intertwines her personal story of experiences with intuition with a few "how-to's" and cautions as well as numerous stories of other people. She discusses a variety of subjects from talking with animals, the difference between psychics and mediums, the art of listening and tuning into your own wisdome or self, dowsing, mediums, psychics, and the power of thoughts (for example, prayer and thinking postive thoughts can change dirty water to clear water). The last section of her book discusses the art of perceiving and includes her experiences with developing her special skill that she didn't think she really had.
This is an interesting book, but one would definitely need time to absorb the intriguing concepts. Personally, I tend to be a bit of skeptic, but she certainly had some curious phenomenas. Some people train for their special skills, some just "pop up", some people ignore them. She also incorporates Buddha and God references. The appendix includes a section on how to meditate and list of resources and references- mostly books, although one section talks about the internet.

It's all about personal experience of the author with paranormal phenomena (certainly these things cannot be justified by sciences). I think there 2 major weaknesses of the book. Initially, the first half of it already expresses the core content & trigger enough excitement over very new concepts like clairvoyance, psychics, precognition, telepathy, etc. but the rest of the book simply repeats those. Secondly, exercises to invite intuitions do not seem deep enough to really awaken inner intuitions for everyone.

Personally, it's changed my worldview about psychics & spiritualism and made me realize that more and more people at least have one intuitive experience, and more importantly, US military is seriously researching over this ability for its "psychic weapons".

This book started out with potential, but then I found myself skipping a great deal of it because of all of the stories and excerpts from other books etc., I lost interest and was unable to finish reading the book. The book didn't provide enough exercises and ways to hone intuition.

Thought this book was going to be about the role intuition plays in our lives and how to best hone it. Instead it was a series of difficult to verify (yet entertaining) accounts of intuition passed around by word of mouth. Not a good book for the practically or scientifically minded.

I really enjoyed this book! It took me awhile to read, but I was so intrigued by every page and it was very easy to read. The only flaw is I thought it would basically be teaching you how to become more intuitive, but apart from a couple of exercises,it doesn't teach you anything. This book is About intuition, not learning it. And it's very interesting! She covers animal communication in it too, which I loved. One really cool thing she teaches is how to see auras and after staring at my hand for Ages,I suddenly saw something,I was elated!!! Very excited to keep working on that. If you want to know anything about intuition, this is thee book.

I would have given this book three stars if it had a different title.

“The Art Of Intuition” (as the title) implied to me that the book was going to be about intuition and maybe ways to develop/enhance it. It seemed like it was only 10-20% about intuition at all. Most of it was filled with different types of psychic phenomenon and the people who practice(d) it and/or denied it.

Again, the title was misleading, and it just made an “okay” book into something I feel I wasted my time reading.

Ok, on Goodreads this book only gets 3.4. The rating on this book are wide spread. Before you pick up this book you need to know that the author is a spiritualist. With that in mind this book goes where I would expect mediumship.

Absolutely eye-opening, insightful, and extremely helpful for anyone intrigued about “the other side”, their psychic nature, and the power and accessibility of the invisible connection throughout the universe. I can’t recommend it enough.

Though Sophy Burnham is best known for her New York Times best-selling books on angels, I'm a huge fan of her earlier books, especially The Art Crowd and The Landed Gentry. A broad and knowledgable overview of issues related to and methods for accessing intuition, this is a most unusual book because it is written by a mystic and a literary artist: one and same person.

This book likely appeals to a smaller audience than a novel; it is an account of the many different "faces" of intuition, including psychic. One thing I loved was the discussion of iNtuition as noted in the MBTI (Myers Briggs Type Inventory), in which I am certified. Intuition includes many different facets, and I loved reading about all of them.

A few good passages but they drown in the middle of too many anecdotes trying to win over pessimists.

This covered a lot of info for skeptics that I haven't seen before. Good quotes throughout and nice overview of intuition in general. I'm keeping it for future reference!

Don't bother. A bargain basement memoir and some evidence of psychic events you can find anywhere. The intention experiment is ten times more interesting with pretty much all the same research cited.

The first half of the book had some good insights. The second half was quite a bit out there.
