Ericio didn't particularly want to become King. He finds politics tedious, in fact most of his duties are tedious to this spoiled prince. To top it all off, someone is trying to kill him.

Distant land was ruled by young king Ericio, who was not quite popular among certain cult of Sun God. He was facing numerous attempts on his life and on his throne. It seemed that he was completely alone except the faithful shadow, who was guarding him and protecting him from any harm. Kane was destined to be king bodyguard, he was trained for that and his life had no meaning without his liege. There is pretty much action and plotting, which can be put on one or two pages as the thick plot line, the other pages are filled with hot and steamy sex scenes between young king and his bodyguard. It is typical Sean Michael not much talks and pretty much sex. This time it went in to the nice story too.

A good book about a king and his guard who is also his lover.
Ericio and Kane grew up together and have been best friends since they first met when Eric was about twelve. One is destined to be king, the other to be the king's guard. When they were teenagers (I think), Kane was sent to a group of 'Masters' to prepare him for the guard job later. The separation stayed in Ericio's mind, and he swore that he wouldn't be separated from his best friend again. Ever. The book starts when Ericio has become king and the two have become lovers. Ericio's mother was from somewhere else, and some of his people, the sun-god worshipers, felt it a betrayal to their people, so they planned to un-throne him.
The book is on how the two fight side-by-side against the threat. A prophesy made by the Masters clouds Kane's mind. It is up to Ericio to fight for his lover.
Sean Michael's books can be grouped into two: (1) those with emphasis on plot, and (2) those with emphasis on sex. This book, unfortunately, falls on the second category, although there is a good plot and had it been less sex, the book would have been great.

Ericio and Kane have a forbidden but extremely beautiful relationship the king and guard dog. Kane may act cruel and cold but once you see the real him you'd be surprised how he truely acts. Although Eric is kind of like a pervert who loves to play with his toys he truely cares for his lover and will do anything to keep his love no matter what shall happen. This story was perfessionally beautiful even though Ericio's kingdom was being taken over Kane still stood by his side loyalty is what makes the realationship last.
I have no doubt that even if these two are different they will not betray or leave each other behind no matter what danger shall occur in the near future.
