Norman Longmate (15 December 1925 – 4 June 2016) was an English author and social and military historian. Longmate, was the author of 31 books, and of various radio documentaries. He often worked as a historical adviser on TV programs. He also wrote a number of military books and the following mystery books:
“Death Won't Wash” (Cassell) 1957 “A Head for Death” (Cassell) 1958 “Strip Death Naked” (Cassell) 1959, Garland Publishing, New York, 1989 “Vote for Death” (Cassell) 1960 “Death in Office” (Robert Hale) 1961
“Strip Death Naked” takes place in an English sea side hotel dedicated and operated by nudists. Someone, however, has been taking photographs of the holiday makers and sending the photos to the participant’s employers. The problem begins when this occurs to a high ranking Government Minister. No blackmail is attempted. Scotland Yard is notified, and an officer is sent to investigate.
Amazingly the author, with a tongue- in-cheek style, carries these exploits through a surprising number of hoops. The investigator, a prim and proper Englishman, who has never been naked in public, must conform with these sun worshipers in order to fit in and discover who the perpetrator might be when the series of curious deaths begin in the hotel.
The book, first published in 1959, stays within the parameters of good British taste, while Mr. Lomgmate is obviously tempted to stretch the boundaries, as our hero can’t help but stare at and admire beautifully shaped naked breasts.
The book was an interesting combination of nudism and detection wrapped in a mystery shell.
This book is volume 25 of 50 books by various authors published by Garland Publishing in 1982. The book was originally printed in England in paperback by Cassell in 1959.
