John Cena, WWE's premier leader in professional wrestling the world over had made a great run for himself in 2006. After having regained the WWE Championship he then went on to promote WWE Films first major film. Though not exactly true, WWE has worked on movies for a while, the most legendary start being Hulk Hogan's No Holds Barred, which is a success and failure as a cult classic. But this seemed to be a much more grounded action film ready to be enjoyed.
John Triton is a highly decorated US Marine, but after a successful mission was made out of an act of insubordination, Triton has washed out. For him, it's not the job, it's the life, and it feels like life is done. Despite coming home to a beautiful and intelligent wife in Kate Triton. But as he and his wife look to enjoy themselves, they run into trouble as a group of thieves on the run from a deadly jewel heist encounter John and Kate, kidnapping the latter as John does all he can to get them back.
I saw this movie in the cinema and it was fine, kind of like the old 1980s action movies. Not the type of movie that would get a sequel, at least not with the same performers. WWE's director and writers made an okay film and this novelization, practically word for word from the script. A fun action adventure film composed into a modest movie tie-in. B
