The Marine

Rate this book
Following a rescue mission in Afghanistan, discharged marine John Triton returns home to South Carolina and into the loving arms of his wife, Kate. Though happy to be home, Triton soon discovers that adjusting to a 'normal life' doesn't come easy for him. In fact, suppressing his intense training and strong survival instincts may be the greatest challenge he has ever faced. That is, until a camping trip to the mountains results in an unfortunate encounter with five ruthless killers on the run, and Kate becomes their unwilling hostage. Left for dead, Triton relentlessly pursues his quarry deep into backwoods country, determined to get his wife back safely at any and all costs. But he's wounded, unarmed, and outnumbered. All he has left are his wits and an almost-animalistic rage that made him an unstoppable killing machine in the frontlines overseas. The marine is waging a new war, and his enemies have no idea how much trouble they're in...

This book is about a Marine John Triton who just got discharged from the Marines. And now he is going home to his wife Kate. So when he gets home they are just spending time together because it has been a long time since they have even seen each other. They then decide to go on a camping trip up in the mountains. But when they are on their way up[ there they had to stop at the gas station to fill up. But the thing is, is that there are five robbers that are at the same station and there is a cop there that went to check out there car because it matches the one that they are looking for. But the cop gets shot and the robbers are forced to get another car so they took the one that kate was in. And they blew up the gas station with John in it. John is now on a new mission of his own. He will do anything and everything that it will take to get his wife back! So John his useing his Marine skills that he has leanred to be has sneaky as he can to get his wife kate back. He follows them for as long as possible. That is when he makes his move and takes them all out one by one. But one of them get away and he has to chase him down. He takes a truck and drives it into a lake with kate handcuffed inside of it. John has to go get her before she dies. Then he does finally get her out but Rome Comes back and tries to kill John but John is to stong and just kills Rome.

I did like this book because it was full of action and i thought it was really cool. I like it so much because it was one of the few books that kept my atention. I think because i have herd of the movie about it so i thought maybe it would be an ok book. So i read it and i loved it.

The book was poorly written – and I mean POORLY written. From simple grammatical mistakes to unchained conversations to a wholly unattractive writing style, there was very little about Josephs’ novelization that makes you want to read the book. On top of that, the story was shallow, the characters are even less appealing, and the dialogue is gummy and cliche at best.

If you must know what the dialogue is like, it’s constantly self-defeating. Let me explain what self-defeating reads like: “The boy walked into the house, but he knew that there was more to this place than the front door. As he entered the kitchen, he felt that something was watching him – and it wasn’t good. He began to panic as he walked forward, knowing that each step could be he last. Then he was startled by a crash upstairs – could that be the last noise he ever heard?”

Get the picture? It’s a CHORE to read this novel – they give you one line, then completely pull back from it at the end of the sentence. Imagine nearly 300 pages of this rubbish!

I can’t even begin to name anything good about this book. There are plot holes all over the place, no attention paid to the smaller points in the storyline, and no consideration given to the interaction between the main characters and the secondary characters.

Quite frankly, I wasted a ton of time reading this book and chances are that I’ll never read another WWE novel again. Some of their biographies are excellent (Mick Foley’s for instance), but in terms of writing fiction – these guys need to stick to the ring.

I highly do NOT recommend wasting the time or money on this book. Stay away.

John Cena, WWE's premier leader in professional wrestling the world over had made a great run for himself in 2006. After having regained the WWE Championship he then went on to promote WWE Films first major film. Though not exactly true, WWE has worked on movies for a while, the most legendary start being Hulk Hogan's No Holds Barred, which is a success and failure as a cult classic. But this seemed to be a much more grounded action film ready to be enjoyed.

John Triton is a highly decorated US Marine, but after a successful mission was made out of an act of insubordination, Triton has washed out. For him, it's not the job, it's the life, and it feels like life is done. Despite coming home to a beautiful and intelligent wife in Kate Triton. But as he and his wife look to enjoy themselves, they run into trouble as a group of thieves on the run from a deadly jewel heist encounter John and Kate, kidnapping the latter as John does all he can to get them back.

I saw this movie in the cinema and it was fine, kind of like the old 1980s action movies. Not the type of movie that would get a sequel, at least not with the same performers. WWE's director and writers made an okay film and this novelization, practically word for word from the script. A fun action adventure film composed into a modest movie tie-in. B

This is such a great book. It is about a marine named John Triton. He gets discharged and goes home to his wife Kate. Soon after he returns home they decide to go on a trip. On their way to go camping, they stop at a gas station to fuel up. What they don't know is that there is also a group of diamond thieves at that gas station. This starts a twist of fate for Kate and John. The thieves kidnap Kate and the chase begins. John Triton chases them as if he were trying to protect his own life, but that's just it, Kate is his life. I highly suggest that any action, thriller, or love story fans read this book. I could not stop reading it once I started. The Marine by Rudy Josephs is a fantastic book.

Action, Drama, Adventure all are all words that describe this great book. The Mariene was an novel writen about John Triton and how he was kicked out of the marines and sent home. Few days after, at a nearby gas station his wife was captured. John had to run through the woods of South Carolina and save his wife.
