This breakthrough book--the last work by the late Robert Rodale, world-famous publisher and crusader for organic farming--shows why traditional Third World farming methods may be superior to Western innovations, then incorporates this information in a practical, action-oriented program to remedy the growing crisis of world famine.
A very powerful book, showing why current foreign aid is at best a waste and is often counter-productive, while proposing sustainable solutions. One key point that is often overlooked in reviews is the empowerment of women - both in education and decision-making. He shows that the more educated women are, and the more politically and economically equal they are in their societies, the more sustainable the birth rate becomes.
Enjoyed reading this book--lots of good info and Mr Rodale makes it seem so simple--don't know why the "powers that be" can't see the reasonableness of his ideas-- very discouraging. But good sound common sense!
