This is the first book to document the complete 28 year history of the coaches, players, and games that brought both thrills and disappointments to their tens of thousands of loyal fans. Three great quarterbacks spanned the Charley Johnson in the 1960s, Jim Hart in the 1970s, and Neil Lomax in the 1980s. Two division championships, three playoff appearances, and a handful of near-miss titles highlighted the seasons. The rundown of the best games, seasons and moments, with vivid imagery and dozens of action pictures never before seen, will stir emotions and memories. The Cardiac Cards are resurrected in this beautiful keepsake edition!
I followed the St. Louis Football Cardinals from my childhood to their move to Arizona. My dad took me to football games, I watched them on their occasional appearances on television, and I read about the players and games in the St. Louis newspapers. They were my team, so when I picked up Greg Marecek's book I had a lot of memories to bring to it. That's what made this book come alive.
Just reading the names of the players made it a great book for me - John David Crow, Charley John, Billy Joe Gambrell, Mel Gray, Neil Lomax, Jim Hart, Conrad Dobler, Terry Metcalf, Irv Goode, Roger Wehrli and many, many more.
I also enjoyed reading about pivotal games in football Cardinal history, most against their main rivals - the Redskins, the Cowboys, and the Browns. There was a good history of the team management, the coaches, and even the equipment guy.
