About the author

Ruth Ryan Langan (aka Ruth Langan) is an award-winning author of romance novels. She is a Romantic Times Career Achievement Award winner and has twice been nominated for Romantic Times Reviwers' Choice Awards, for Jade and Return of the Prodigal Son. She has spent much of her career writing historical romance novels for the Harlequin Historicals line of category romances. Many of her book are set in medieval times, while others are western romances. She has also written some contemporary romances, and often includes elements of suspense in her novels.

Langan began her writing career in secret. Her family discovered her writings when her children came home unexpectedly from school one day and found her writing. When Langan's husband was told of her hobby, he bought her an electric typewriter "because 'writers need tools'". Her first book was published by Silhouette Books in 1981 after an editor picked it out of their slush pile. After the first sale was completed, Langan got an agent.

Langan is a charter member of the Romance Writers of America. She has five children and lives with her husband in Michigan.

Well, I learned one thing today. While suffering to begin my summer tan, don't take a book outside. Living in the Middle East is so hot that the glue melted and the pages fell out! Lol

Se equiparou ao primeiro com um 3,7

Uma jovem e inocente mestiça criada para o prazer. A mente dela tão bem trabalhada pela tutora que ela não conseguia enxergar outro caminho para ela. Bom enredo... o que atrapalhou para mim foi a teimosia dela e aquele pai amoroso aceitar deixar a filha numa casa de prazer. Se a mãe dela não queria ir para o Texas, ele deveria ter levado a filha..., mas aí não teria história, não é?
Quanto ao Nevada... só posso dizer que a Ruth Langan nos faz ter vontade de colocar esses mocinhos no colo e dar muitos beijos.
Só sei que com tudo isso me divertiu e conseguiu me entreter e mereceu 3,7

Io amo profondamente questa autrice fin da quando ero piccolina e la considero fra le mie scrittrici preferite in assoluto. Questo romanzo a mio avviso è ben costruito. Intenso, passionale ma assolutamente non banale o ripetitivo. I personaggi sono ben costruiti e adoro il modo in cui l'intera storia si evolve passo dopo passo.

was i too delusional to think that the reverend was going to be an age appropriate love interest and not the 30+ y.o who kissed her when she was 16 in prologue? was i too hopeful thinking he was just a really kind age appropriate former gunslinger turned reverend?
most likeable couple so far in the series before the identity reveal 💔

At the age of 16, Jade Jewel met a man who would have a profound effect on her. At the ‘house of pleasure’ of her mother, Jade met a gambler named Nevada. The story resumes three years later. After the unexpected deaths of both of Jade’s parents, she found that she had 3 sisters in Texas. She decided to visit them; then decided to open a ‘pleasure palace’ in Hanging Tree, Texas.

There, she meets Reverend Wade Weston, a handsome man looking for redemption amongst the town’s citizens. I am surprised that Jade did not recognize Weston as the gambler Nevada immediately.

Although the interest between the town’s preacher and the new madam sounded like an interesting proposition, I didn’t think the characters had much depth. The resolution of Jade’s fancy bordello was an absolute shock and very unrealistic.
