I used this guide 2 or 3 years after it was published, so the prices were not always accurate. But it was a very useful book for getting summaries of every major site on the tourist trail, and giving accept starting recommendations for places to eat and drink. Unless you have a very recent copy of this guide, though, I wouldn't recommend going to their recommended places to eat and drink - at least, not in Cairo. You can walk around Cairo and find better, cheaper, more local-y spots. I didn't spend enough time in Alexandria to see if it was the same way, but the Alexandria section did seem a bit more informative and trustworthy in terms of places to eat and drink. This is possibly because Alexandria is a place where you only go to eat and drink. And by drink, I mean cafes and bars - not just booze.
This guide was exceedingly handy because it has Egyptian Arabic (a bit different from traditional Arabic) with translations in the back, and if you've been to Cairo then you know you can't get by with just English. Or... if you have gotten by with English, you've been swindled out of a lot of money.
I purchased and read this book for a planned visit to Egypt this very year. I was on the point of booking my holiday when the revolution began and unfortunately the trip didn't happen. Still the book contains a lot of useful information and I will re-rate once I've actually been able to make the trip.
I suppose the only true test of this book will be to rate it after visiting Egypt, but I'm gonna take a chance and say that I think I garnered some really useful knowledge (and it was presented well)
