Juicing for Life

Rate this book
While Calbom and Keane promise no quick fix for various ailments, their simple-to-prepare natural ‘potions’ fit the contemporary demand for instant––and healthful––gratification. Arranged alphabetically by ills (which range from acne to age spots to chronic fatigue syndrome, varicose veins and water retention), juice `cures' are touted here as `vitamin and mineral cocktails' that can detoxify the body and supplement the diet. At the very least, juicing raw produce is a relatively direct means of introducing the vegetables recommended by nutritionists into daily habits.

Juicing for Life by Maureen Keane covers the basics of juicing, includes recipes, and discusses ailments and disorders. It contains a section of diet plans as well.

My only complaint is that there aren't any pictures but it really isn't necessary. This a great beginner juicing book.

I read this book back in 1995. I had been diagnosed with Epstein Barr virus even though I didn't believe such a diagnosis. Existed. My doctor tried everything to help me, but nothing worked. I was exhausted and couldn't even sleep. Then a biologist that my friend was dating and who worked at scripts lab and sandy ago gave me an article that he had found on the Internet. The woman who had chronic fatigue claimed that juicing had cured her.

I went out and bought this book and a champion juicer. I began juicing with a handful of parsley, 1 clove of garlic, 5 carrots, and 2 ribs of celery. The Parseley keeps you from Smelling of garlic.

I began sleeping well in 1 week. In 1 month I was well. And this after 6 months of fatigue.

I didn’t actually get to make any juices since at present I’m concentrating on making and consuming Medical Medium Anthony William’s Heavy Metal Detox Smoothies, the intake of which is imperative to healing from autoimmune diseases.

But I found the book valuable.

There is a long list of ailments/diseases in alphabetical order, basic dietary advice about how best to heal the ailment, followed by seven suggested juicing recipes.

For example, for osteoporosis:

Calcium-Rich cocktail is made from 3 kale leaves, a small handful of parsley, 4-5 carrots, greens removed and ½ apple, seeded.

For Varicose Veins:

Garlic Express, for which you should use a handful of parsley, a garlic clove, 4-5 carrotss, greens removed and 2 stalks of celery.

I see that many of the listed juices contain 4-5 carrots.

There are recipes for underweight people, e.g.:

Sweet and Sour Cherry Cream

I cup cherries, pitted

4 oz nonfat yoghurt.

At the end of the book, various diets are suggested together with recipes for a juice fast.

It is not only about juicing but gives much general dietary advice.

I borrowed the book from the library, but when I decide to start juicing regularly I may purchase it.

Good book with a grand number of good recipes. Let's face it...we are all growing older...sorry..."Youth Challenged." As we do so, we must change the way we eat for the simple fact that we are not getting the majority of our nutritional value from our food. Most of us take a few chews and down it goes. If we took more time to chew we could get more out of our food. However, some foods meed to be turned into a slushy in order for us to get the most benefit from it. Hence, the fact that many of us turn to a juicer.

Fight "free radicals" with suggested menu and begin the year cleansed with a six-week cleanse. Recipes for Cleansing cocktail juice, Chlorophyll Cocktails, Vegetable Express, & more. The seasonal drinks make dieting simple. The 7-Day Liver Cleanse was a challenge to celebrate. This book is great for exploring new drinks all year long.

This book has some fantastic recipes and you can look up an ailment for specific recipes! Simple-to-prepare natural "potions" fit the contemporary demand for instant--and healthful--gratification. Arranged alphabetically by ills (which range from acne to age spots to chronic fatigue syndrome, varicose veins and water retention), juice "cures" are touted here as "vitamin and mineral cocktails" that can detoxify the body and supplement the diet. Many of the same juice recipes work on sundry and specific ills; recipes for potassium broth, "very veggie" cocktail, "Cherie's cleansing cocktail," "ginger hopper," "garlic express" and "chlorophyll cocktail" are among the repeated panaceas. At the very least, juicing raw produce is a relatively direct means of introducing the vegetables recommended by nutritionists into daily habits. So while some will pigeonhole Juicing as just another New Age treatise, others--convinced of the place of the occasional juice fast in the diet--will find the volume fascinating, and well worth the investment in a juicer and organic produce.

Juicing for Life: A Guide to the Benefits of Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Juicing has some terrific juicing recipes. The book offers some basic information on juicing before diving into the health benefits of juicing for specific ailments. The book features information on various illnesses and which fruits and vegetables offer health benefits for each illness, covering everything from acne and arthritis to varicose veins and water retention.

I liked that the sections were arranged alphabetically, but I found the information extremely repetitive. The sections were quite large and many ailments featured the same juice recipes.

This is more of a reference book than a book on the ins and outs of juicing. Nonetheless, it's going to be a great addition to my bookshelves.

I found this book at the local Goodwill store for under a dollar, so thought I would give it a look. After reading this great guide to the health benefits of juicing, I put a juicer on my Christmas list. Armed with my new juicer, I'm looking forward to using the 'recipes' in the book for my knee inflamation as well as overall health and wellness. This book contains good nutrional guidelines in addition to juicing information. Even though I got a bargain, I would pay full price for this book!

Wasn't a bad book, though most of it is about specific juices for specific ailments, though do give a short and easy to understand rundown of juicing at the beginning. Some interesting juice combinations and ideas and for someone starting out, is probably not a half bad book to start with, especially if you are happy to give juicing a try. Brief information about nutrition as a whole, and some good nutritional information for ailments.

Motivating and inspiring. I juice daily, but not four or more times daily as this book suggests. This has an abundance of simple juice recipes and suggestions, as well as juices for specific health concerns. The authors ate nutritionists and give clear explanations and dietary plans. I feel healthier already.

Great information without a lot of rhetoric. Calbom gets right to the point. I read the entire book in 1.5 days. After explaining the basics, the info provided moves you right into formulating an action plan.

This book provides the insight that a healthy lifestyle is extremely doable.

An interesting, different view of nutrition, with a lot of recipes and helpful practical ideas. I finished the book anxious to get a juicer and try it out.
I must just mention, though, that the author pushed my personal nutrition button by advocating non-fat milk--horrors!
