I was recommended the Freedom of the Hills book, but a friend of mine told me that while it is a good book, that I probably am familiar with some of the stuff in there and that this Climbing Handbook does a better job of covering rock climbing.

This is a good book for beginner and even intermediate climbers. I say that because some of the stuff I learned from the book can immediately be committed to memory, while other stuff - like different knots - will take a while to learn. They also go over various techniques and methodologies while climbing outdoors (I have the ones I prefer, but I could start using the ones I learned in this book for sure). It also goes over climbing indoors, the history of climbing, and pretty much just about anything you would like to know about the sport.

I borrowed this book from a friend, but I am considering getting myself a copy to take with me to the crag!
