Wonderful work from Ryan W. Kinney. Every story was gripping, filled me with fear, and pulled at my heart strings. The author’s deep love and understanding of horror is clear on every page.

First things first, the representation in There's Something Wrong in Morrington County is really what matters here. Queer Black characters throughout the stories and they are center stage, not relegated to side characters there for background noise. I suggest reading this book more like a mosaic novel, rather than a short story collection (which I did not do, so that was my bad). I did not really know going in that the stories all kind of tied together, so as short stories, many did not stand on their own. As a cohesive whole, they work so much better. Many are also better suited to radio dramas rather than on the page, which might be the point. Thighs was a stand out story for me.

This book was so fresh for me. Another black horror anthology. I can honestly say this book made me want to continue reading it. I love the fact that the stories tied together. Can we just talk about representation as well? Black Queer main characters!! This is what we need to see more of in the horror/sci fi genre. I actually laughed out loud reading Thighs. One of the scenes had me cracking up. These stories made me feel so many emotions as well. I definitely recommend this book. Go support my Internet friend Ryan!!

Great linked anthology

I'm not usually a big fan of anthologies but I do love horror and especially queer horror, so I gave this a go and easily enjoyed it. Though each story stands alone, a lot of overlap characters and there's a throughline that links them together.

The stories are inventive, creepy, scary and sometimes funny. Really well done characters too.

I found this one really interesting, and I was drawn in by the cover.
I had a lot of favorite characters in here that I rooted for in each story.
I appreciated the messages within each story.
I think this is a good read, especially with how some of our current events are going.
I loved the sense of community and how much the characters cared for one another.
My favorite creatures would have to be from 'Jars'.
I was surprised at the ending in 'Lunacy'.
I was not expecting 'Thighs', but I really liked this one.
I enjoyed all the stories in this one.

The first and only thing I've gotten from the TT shop and it did not disappoint! I was immediately sucked into the story and stopped reading halfway through because I didn't want it to end. 2 years later, I have finally read through cover to cover and definitely recommend.

I love the way each story is connected to the events in Jars. Don't want to give away spoilers, but I was thoroughly entertained and felt really seen. Ryan really encapsulates and represents that specific type of tenderness that us queer folks crave in both platonic and romantic relationships.

An interesting horror collection that focuses on the lives of gay black men living in the suburbs of Maryland. This anthology has a bit of everything, demons, witches, possession, zombies, drug use, strong families and friendships as well as questionable friendships. Out of twelve stories, there was only one dud for me, so overall, a solid and fun collection for any horror lover.

A riveting horror short story collection with queer, black representation. A quick read with characters and themes intertwined throughout the stories. Fast paced with lot of creepy, small-town shenanigans. The writing style was simple but engaging. Highly recommend!
