Ritual abuse, perpetrated by secretive cults within groups as diverse as Christian sects, Satanic worshipers, and even day-care providers, often involves the drugging, torture, rape, and exposure of children to animal or human sacrifice. Smith's courageous work offers clear insights and hard facts about this most underestimated form of child abuse.
Margaret Smith is a pseudonym. The author is a survivor and researcher of ritual abuse. Her work is used by survivors, therapists, and organizations that address ritual abuse issues.
This is probably the 5th SRA book geared towards therapists that I've read. It's comprehensive without being over the top, it has no emotional overtures leaving the reader to reach their own understanding, and the writing style is clear, concise, and easy to read without dumbing down the topic. Margaret Smith includes lots of therapeutic tools including an intake questionnaire (appendix A). She includes resources and says this beforehand, "The following is a list of books available to clinicians...I do not agree with some of the current therapeutic attitudes...I encourage people to take what they like from these books and leave the rest." Whenever someone encourages using awareness without imposing their own opinion, I know they're good peeps.
Before buying books, I borrow them from the library as a screening method. This book I've put into my Amazon cart because I will be purchasing it.
