Drawing on a lifetime of study and reflection, the author of the Joshua series presents his long-awaited, revelatory, and deeply personal work on Jesus.
In his immensely popular Joshua novels, Joseph Girzone depicted Jesus in the modern-day world, using compelling fiction to elucidate Jesus’ message and teachings. Now Girzone provides a powerful new perspective on Jesus. Based on scripture and written in Girzone’s lively, non-doctrinal style, it brings the theology that animates his fiction into vibrant focus.
Girzone combines the gospel accounts of Jesus’ life, personal anecdotes, tales from the Bible, and stories he has gathered from people around the world to create an uncommon and profoundly inspiring portrait. He writes with candor and grace about the revelations that shape his beliefs and the mysteries that continue to intrigue him.
The definitive statement of Girzone’s views on Jesus’ mission on earth and its meaning for today’s readers, Jesus is Girzone’s magnum opus.

A wonderful book opening up the mind and heart of Jesus for our reflection. Girzone examined many familiar moments in the life of Jesus to help us know Him better in a personal way but also provided interesting insights that were new to me about the society in which Jesus lived and the characters/motivation/hearts of many of the people surrounding Jesus.
Girzone did an excellent job of weaving together the humanity and divinity of Jesus. The perspective of his experiences were told in such way it brought each story to life. You could understand Jesus’ disappointments, sorrows and anguish, as in the Garden of Gethsemane. He faced temptation and opposition and death as a man then emerged triumphant as the Son of God. This book offers a greater understanding of who Jesus is and how his experience being human in every way makes him so real because he knows what we go through. Jesus is fully God and fully man; he experienced both. How awesome!
Thick with info. Usually did about half chapter with group a week. Last 2 ch.has great info about early church setup & how the Word spread. Couldn’t find a study guide, so Google & Wikipedia were my added reference sources. In the early chapters, some class members said they felt immersed in Jesus’s world….could almost “feel the dust” on their feet.
A fantastic and detailed portrait of the life of Jesus Christ. A master of the parable and millennia ahead of his time in moral reasoning, social justice, and true compassion, Jesus should be a role model for all—regardless of your faith in him as the messiah. So often, people are turned away from Christianity because of narcissistic pastors, followers that do not truly exemplify piety, and thinly veiled or overt hypocrisy. This novel reminds readers it is not people who dictate Christianity, but sola scriptura.
Girzone embellishes Biblical accounts with plausible fiction, and I found the book instantly immersive. There are three events in particular that really stuck out to me and I discuss them on my podcast: https://soundcloud.com/jesusinbooks/j...
Father Girzone sets the story of Jesus' mministry in as chronological order as possible. With most of the happenings Girzone delves into not just what is said in the Gospels but how Jesus might have felt, reacted, understood, and most of the emotions that we feel when we are confronted with teaching or anger and prejudice. Father Girzone inserted someof his own life stories. All of theis added to my "lectio Divina."
