Cameron's sister, Katie, asks him to do her a favor. "Just do this one thing," is what she asks, followed by, "Don't tell anyone."

He's not happy to be riding through the woods in the rain, but Katie looked kind of freaked out. When Cameron stops for a moment, he hears something. He listens carefully and hears it again. It sounds like crying. It is crying. In fact, it's a baby!

Cameron can't believe he has found what looks like a newborn wrapped in blankets out in the woods. He wraps it in his sweater and zips it inside his coat and bikes out to the road. After a few tries, he gets a car to stop and pick him up. Luckily, the driver is a nurse. She quickly checks on the baby and heads to the nearest hospital.

The good news is the baby will survive. The bad news is Cameron is pretty sure he knows whose baby it is. He cautiously answers questions from doctors, a social worker, and the police, but the answer they all want to hear, he keeps to himself.

IN THE WOODS presents the distressing scenario of an abandoned infant. It's a story all too common in the news today. Author Robin Stevenson brings this grim reality to life as she describes Cameron's struggle to face the truth about his sister.

Only 124 pages long, IN THE WOODS takes readers quickly into the emotionally charged situation, and keeps them on the edge of their seats right to the end.

I would not call this book a novel. I would call it a short story with chapters. It's very simplistic, and the only reason for it to exist is to perhaps stop a teenage mom from hiding a pregnancy or abandoning a newborn. Told from the standpoint of the twin brother of the teenage mom. The kid does all the right things, thank goodness. The sister does not and almost dies, and the baby could have died with one little mistake. It's very didactic, simply written, and might help in some teen in crisis, who really wouldn't need a book written on a higher level at that point. That's the only reason I gave it 3 stars. It will never be considered for the Newbery, the Printz, or any other ALA award.

The start of this book just won’t let you stop reading, it’s so intriguing I really didn’t know what the outcome was going to be but I sure was curious. The book is basically about a teenage boy, Named Cameron, who has a twin sister, their parents are divorced and he and his sister aren’t exactly the closest twins in the world. In his mother’s eyes his sister was the perfect child, perfect grades all her life and the captain of any sports team she played on. Cameron on the other hand, barely pulled through the grades he had completed, and passing with C’s sometimes even D’s, even though he had good behavior and etc., he always felt like a shadow of his successful twin sister.
One day he was at home alone when his sister gave him a call, he was hoping it was a girl he had had a crush on that previous summer. However it wasn’t, it was his sister, and as soon as he received the call he was almost immediately curious because he and his sister barely talk in person, and never on the phone. Anyway, when he picks up the phone for a long moment it was silence, he said, “Hello,” over and over until finally his sister answered him. “Cameron, it’s Katie,” she says, and he can hear in the tone of her voice that something is not right. He asks her questions like what’s wrong, where she is, and what she was doing. All she tells him is that she needs him to come to a trail near a lake near their house, which was about a 45 minute bike ride considering Cameron didn’t own a car. In the beginning, he disagrees because his sister Katie can’t give him any reason why she would want him to come to the lake. Katie keeps begging and begging him to come, even almost beginning to shed tears, pleading that this will be the last time she ever asks him for anything. Even though it started to drizzle outside shortly before he left his house, the crackle in his sister’s voice couldn’t resist going to see what was so important at the lake that she’d beg him so desperately to come.
When he arrives at the lake, Katie isn’t even there, in fact, no one is, it was empty and more silent than ever. He starts to think this was some kind of prank or something, he walked around to the trail and saw not a soul. He gets a little frustrated and hops on his bike and starts to head home when a faint noise catches his attention, so he turns around and peddles back to the trail, it’s still raining at this point in the book. He stands still for a second, trying to figure out from which direction the sound is coming from, but it’s difficult. After about 10 minutes of still hearing this noise, he finally just starts walking around to see if he can see anything since he couldn’t hear. Behind a huge tree trunk, he spots something bright blue shining through the slight darkness since it was almost 8:00, so he approaches it and he can’t believe his eyes. It was a baby, a new born baby, crying its eyes out, and Cameron was in so much shock he was about to be crying with it. After it hits Cameron that there is really a baby on the ground in front of him he instantly thinks of his sister Katie, she was the one who begged him to come here, was this the reason why?
He picks up the baby and runs back to his bike, he was panicking but he tucked the baby into his jacket a way she couldn’t fall out and she could breathe but was still warm. He eventually comes to an intersection and attempts to hitchhike a ride to the nearest hospital. Many cars pass him for a couple minutes until a woman about the age of his mother stops to see what’s happening. When she does, she urges him to get in the car quick and they dash to the hospital, like fugitives running form the police. The baby is taken to intensive care immediately.
At this point in the book so many things are running through Cameron’s head, was this Katy’s baby? Is she helping a friend cover up the birth of a baby on a trail near a lake? If it was Katie’s baby how did she hide a baby for 9 months? His mind was going a mile a minute and he couldn’t gather his thoughts to save his life.
In my head while reading the book I was literally jaw dropped the entire time I was reading, I read the entire book in one day because I wanted to know what happens so bad. I was thinking, was this his sisters baby? Whose baby was this really? And if it was his sisters, was she going to frame it on Cameron and say it was his because they have the same exact DNA?
The doctors question Cameron and because he doesn’t want to rat his sister out, he makes up a story about how he was there to meet a girl but she ditched him, the doctors are skeptical but believe his story and say if he remembers anything else to contact then. When he got home that day and saw his sister, he questions her, and to his surprise she acts like she has no idea what he’s talking about and Cameron starts to question if he’s going crazy. 1 day passes and it’s the night after, he questions her again and she cracks. She tells Cameron how she gave birth to the baby in the woods, and that was the reason of her recently quitting the swim team. Until then Cameron didn’t notice all the signs that pointed to Katie being pregnant until that exact second. She had quit the swim team, she stopped going out with her friends, and every time Cameron thinks of the clothes she has recently been wearing all he can think about is sweats. She begs Cameron not to tell their mother and the secret is kept, for about 3 days, then things start to go wrong with Katie. She starts to bleed and is forced to get Cameron to take her to the hospital for proper post birth medical care.
The rest of the book isn’t what you’d think it’d be, you’re going to have to read it yourself to find out!

Have you ever had a little brother who would do anything for you? Even if what you were asking of him was stupid he still did it. Katie has. Katies little brother Cameron was doing his own thing one day trying to talk to his crush at school and his sister Katie calls him asking him to do something so strange asking him not to tell anyone. Cameron, confused on why she is asking him to do this and why she sounded so freaked out.
As he gets on his bike in the freezing cold rain, curious as to why his sister is asking him to do this. As he's driving through the woods he hears something so strange, something out of the ordinary in the middle of the woods. What could it be? Whose is it? Why is it here? All these thoughts in Cameron's head as he tries to figure out what to do next, he couldn't just leave it there. Could this be Katies? She has straight Aś in school, a perfect student this couldn't be hers. No way Cameron thinks in his head. It has to be her friends and she felt guilty. As someone surprisingly passes through at the right time to help Cameron figure it out even though he has no idea how to figure it out. Does he tell his parents about this? Why did Katie make him do this? Is Katie okay?
Into The Woods is a very intriguing story that keeps you hooked, it always leaves you wondering what is gonna happen next and if Cameron is gonna do the right thing. This book talks about realistic things that adults and teens are scared to talk about and the topic is very shyed upon. This book spreads light on how to not go about the situation and that sometimes things need to be talked about without judgment. Sometimes kids are scared to talk about things because they don't wanna get in trouble but this makes me think about what we would tell our parents if we knew they wouldn't get mad or react a certain way.
This story is a very very short story and I wish they had a sequel to it, but for someone who needs a quick read and doesn't stay focused very long this is a really good book to read, it keeps you full of information and doesn't really get boring and it's only 124 pages. I would recommend this story for middle schoolers due to how easy it is to read and understand. I would rate Into The Woods a solid 4 out of 5. I wouldnt rate it a five because of how long it is. I wish it was longer or that there were more books after, I think they kinda rushed the ending which made my rate go lower but I definitely think it is worth the read. It is short and sweet and very enjoyable for being short.

The book In the Woods was a simple and short read. The book didn’t have any parts that were very gripping and didn’t go much into detail. The storyline of this book was very predictable and many parts were left unexplained. Like what had happened with Katie and her mom's ex boyfriend? What happens with the baby in the ending?. The book could be more developed and have some twists in it.

The major theme the book explores is teen pregnancy . The book shows a teenager named Katie who always got good grades in school and never did anything wrong. Then she got pregnant and doesn't share this with her family members because she is worried about the way they`ll react . By not doing this she creates a huge mess she gets her brother involved, the police, social workers and creates a huge problem for herself. This theme relates to teens facing this problem in real life.

In the woods explores sibling relationships . The main character Cameron was very supportive and helpful with his sister's situation. Cameron was scared at first when he saw the baby in the woods but once he figured out that it was his sister Katie`s baby he tried his hardest and helped Katie get through the problem. In the end Cameron says he wants to be a part of the baby’s life even if it`s just sending a birthday card once a year.

Cameron’s Character is nicely developed he shows gentleness and responsibility with the baby, Katie and his mom. Katie’s character was also nicely developed Cameron explains her characteristics in the beginning. If the book had shown more of Katie’s perspective on her situation it would have made the book more engaging. Most of it is shown by Cameron’s point of view.

The book is mostly beneficial with teenagers facing similar problems. In the Woods would not be a interesting read for someone who likes books that go in depth. Overall In The Woods was a nice quick read but could expand more.

The book I read is called ‘In the Woods” By Robin Stevenson. I basically read this book because I told my teacher that I didn’t know what book to read and that I needed a book that would be easy to comprehend. Once I started to read the book I actually happened to find it really interesting. When I saw the books cover I really thought it was going to be a complicated book and I thought it would just be about some teenagers who get lost in the woods and them just doing dumb things. Well, the part about them being teens is true but this book is about a young teen who does great in school and you could never ever really possibly ever imagine that she would do something bad/wrong.
I rate this book from 1-10 a 8 with 8 being a really good/ interesting book. I do recommend it to everyone. The book isn’t focused on necessarily girly things or anything, This book is basically based on real life experiences and things that happen now days. I can say the two main characters are twins their names are Cameron which is the boy and his twin sister Katie.Their was a baby whom Cameron found in the woods and that’s all I can possibly say about this book., because It’s a really Short book that I would practically give everything out. But I also recommend this book because most people aren’t interested in reading books that take a big process to finish reading. So I suggest you that the next time you are looking for something you go read “ In the Woods” By Robin Stevenson. It’s a quick book and really easy to understand. I hope you enjoy reading It just like I did.

"In to the Woods" by Robin Stevenson is a realistic fiction book about a wired "coincidence" the main character Cameron had. "Oh god...pease? Cameron, I swear I'll never ask you to do anything again. Ever. Just do this one thing?" Katie, Cameron's twin sister, said to Cameron. This favor led Cameron towards finding an almost dead baby in the woods. The people in his town say was a miracle, that he heard the baby cry while in a bike ride, but was it really . Who is the mother of the baby? Is it just a coincidence or is Katie somehow involved in this? Why would someone just leave a baby in the woods? Who could responsible for this in such a small town?
All the book is so intriguing. This huge mystery keeps you and Cameron hooked on to it. Stevenson writes in a very ardent tone witch contributes allot on keeping the book interesting. Stevenson writes a lot about how Cameron is feeling about all of this and hoy it is affecting him in a daily basis. Over all,I really like this book. Specially the ardent tone Stvenson uses.

“ Into the Woods”, a indulgence for lovers of adult fiction, sees the life of a teenage boy as he makes a shocking discovery led by his sister. The book deals with interesting sibling relationships, and family responsibility as well as involving mature issues such as teen pregnancy and sexual abuse in a riveting manner. Cameron can't believe he has found what looks like a newborn wrapped in blankets out in the woods. He wraps it in his sweater and zips it inside his coat and bikes out. Could this be his sister’s baby? Why did she abandon the baby?

I think that it was a great book. At first because it was so short I thought I am going to hate this book. but once I started reading it I could not put it down. The only problem, it was too short and it was not ended properly. It was left off on a cliffhanger. I think that the author should make it into a series or just make another book and end it properly. But beside that it was a great book, if you have not read it and you are thinking about it you should definitely read it. Also suggest it to friends. I suggested it to my friend and she absolutely loved it. I hope this helped. Have a good day!

I think this book was pretty good. I like short, small books just as much as I like novels, maybe more, but I fear it ended too soon! The end was just... abrupt. It had a lot of loose ends. I just don't think it was a good place to end.
The writing was good, the story in the background was also a nice touch. You kind of just know where the story is going, so that's another thing. It tells on itself, gives away the mystery, so it's more like a drama than a mystery. I think that's how it should've been advertised. The reveal wasn't that dramatic, sadly.

I give this book four out of five stars. I think that it was really interesting and not at all predictable. This book was much better than I expected it to be, in the little amount of pages it had, there was so much stuff I loved. My favorite part of the book was that there was so many plot twists, the book was continously suprising me. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who needs a quick read or anyone really.

As a middle-high school librarian, I am currently going through my shelves to find books that have become lost in the sea of newer, more colorful, arrivals. I’m going to spend the summer reading as many as I can in order to purge those which no longer belong as well as select the keepers and be able to booktalk them.

This book is a high interest topic for low-level readers that is still relevant so I feel it still has some life in it.

This was a quick read and was good for that but it left a big what comes next feeling that I et wanting to know what happens to the characters after the event happened.

It was a nice quick hour read that kept me wanting to get to who's baby is it (even though I kinda could already guess from the first page) to what of the mother is not alright after all. Interesting plot.

Book Tittle:In the woods
Author:Robin Stevenson

The Book "In the woods" by Robin Stevenson takes place in the woods. Cameron who is the main character gets a call from his sister Katie to go to the lake where their family use to have picnics, and kids from his school would have parties there. Cameron rode his bike there and found a baby in the woods under a tree. Cameron brought the baby to the hospital, then soon later found out that it was his sister Katie's baby. Katie had asked Cameron to help and not tell anyone, but Cameron likes a girl named Audrey. Cameron had told Audrey about everything. He then realizes that Audrey is adopted and gets why he needs to tell the police that the baby is Katie's baby. During a life situation with Katie Cameron had no choice so he told Nancy the emergency room social worker.
"I guess in a way, finding her makes me feel sort of responsible for her and like Audrey said, she's my niece. No matter what Katie decides to do."
Reading the book "In the Woods" help me to learn that people aren't always who they seems to be. The book is overall really good, but what I don't like about the book is it didn't tell me wether Cameron and Audrey were together. The book does teach you a lesson. The first lesson I learned was that everyone always have a reason for their actions. The second lesson I learned is to take chances, you never know what it could lead to, wether it's good or bad. I would recommend this book to people who likes mystery and family helping family kind of books.
I would rate the book "In the Woods" a 3 star, because I like the book. I like how there was a little mystery and how it kinda teaches you lessons throughout the book. But it would be better if theY ended the book telling us about Cameron and Audrey. I also like how it left us with a cliff hanger, but j do want to know what happened between them.

I think this is an awesome book because It gives us a lesson for all those people who think that think are perfect but at the end everything goes down. It talks about Katie, a girl who is "perfect" like she had straight A's in school, she was really popular, and really smart. Her twin brother Cameron, was totally the opposite of her, he wasn't really good at school or have any friends. Katie ended up being pregnant and she didn't want her mom to know because she didn't want her mom upset. She made poor decisions, she gave birth to a baby girl and she left her in the woods, she made her brother Cameron go into the woods and found the baby and then he went straight to the hospital. Katie pretend like nothing happened, the next day she was really pale and she was bleeding in the restroom. They took her to the hospital and then her mom found out about her pregnancy. She was pretty upset because she never noticed that Katie was pregnant and under her own roof, she could of helped Katie out. This talks about if you think you are a perfect person, you are wrong because first of all, nobody is perfect. Don't think you are better than others because you never know what can happen in your life, I recommend this book to everyone so you can see what happens when you think you are perfect, be a humble person and stop trying to show off what you might have right now because life goes on and everything that matters if who we are from the inside.

While this book is a little short to be able to get into the possible depth of the story, it really was interesting and difficult to put down. Since it's more novella length, I stayed up the extra 30 minutes to finish it. The suspense isn't great, as it's somewhat obvious. I enjoyed the characters, but they didn't have enough room to be too well fleshed out. The main character also feels a little bit girl-ized due to the female author perspective, making it maybe slightly more appealing for girls than boys. He isn't feminized at all and still reads as a boy but I think that some but not all of the feelings he experiences somehow feel a little more feminine than masculine, not that I have any personal experience being a boy either. On the whole, it's a highly recommendable read due to its length, subject, and attention-grabbing qualities- the idea of finding an abandoned newborn in the woods is a pretty easy sell and a genuine area of real-life concern. Just don't expect to get more than your hour's worth of realistic, semi-after-school-special-ish adventure out of it.

In the Woods is about a boy that was riding his bike around the forest and found a baby new born. Nobody knows who’s the mother; they’re finding out who it is. It's going to be a mystery to solve. Will they find out who’s the mother?

What I really liked about the book was the setting, plot, and characters. The setting was at the forest, the boy’s house, and the hospital. The plot was mainly about finding the baby’s mother and was about the boy’s sister and some of her friends. The character that I liked the most was Cameron because he wouldn’t give up on himself to find the baby's mother.

I would recommend this book because, if you're that kind of person in love with mystery books, this is a book for you. If you're that kind of person that loves adventures too then this a really great book for you people. To me this book was very exciting because I really love mystery books and adventure books.

This is one of the high interest, low reading ability titles from the Orca Soundings series. It's an unusual story about Cameron, a teen who finds a baby abandoned in the woods, and who comes to suspect that it's his twin sister Katie's baby. I enjoyed the story but felt that making it longer would have given the sister's character more time to be fleshed out, and thereby give it a more emotional impact. More could have been done with the effect of their mother's boyfriend's abuse on Katie. However, I realize that this series limits the number of pages each book can be, so it's no fault of the author. Reluctant readers will probably like the story, but I think it deserves a fuller telling, perhaps in chapters alternating between Cameron's and Katie's viewpoints. It might even have made a good novel in verse, which also appeals to reluctant readers.

An Orca Sounding book that encompasses the plot and themes of After by Efaw in a more simplistic and shorter story where Katie, gives birth in the woods and asks her twin brother, Cameron, to go to the woods (though he doesn't know what for), only to discover the newborn baby and take it to the hospital. The baby survives but Cameron is confused and not until he finally gets to talk with Katie does she finally admit that she gave birth but is in need of medical attention.

The story focuses on the dissociation that girls, especially young girls, go through when they want to deny they're pregnant. They don't want to disappoint family, can't disrupt their lives, and don't want to admit it to themselves.

But, all is well, while she might not actually raise the baby, she at least admits it and gives her traumatized brother, some peace of mind.
