This is a gorgeous book. It has been designed beautifully with a well thought out layout and it even has silver ribbons to close it. It contains spells to draw good things to oneself and is really about self love.
The Book of Spells II is a collected work of spells and charms by Marian Green, a woman well-versed in traditional magickal practices. The book starts off with a short introductory, which includes some information on the use of instruments, symbols, and a general guide on how to practice magick. Green also talks about how it’s important to be able to concentrate, mediate, and visualize while doing spells and/or rituals, and includes three spells for self-understanding before she starts the actual book.
After that, five magickal-themed chapters follow: (1) elements, (2) planets, (3) zodiac, (4) herbs/kitchen magick, and (5) dreams. All of these chapters contain only spells, pushing the total past forty. Each spell has two pages devoted to it, one being an illustrated one, and the other containing a brief introductory, a step-by-step instruction, and an ingredient list.
The book is quite beautifully designed, actually, and looks very inspirational. The photography used on the illustrated pages strikes the right, magickal tone, and the differently coloured background of the pages also added a lot of extra ambience (as did the cute doodles in the margins and in the ingredient lists of the spells).
However, that’s about as far as it goes – this book is very much aimed towards beginners (or at least I hope so), and though it might be an upside that all the ingredients are easily accessible, and the spells easy to perform… It’s perhaps a tad too easy. It holds little to no information or background; just spells and charms, mostly, and though it can serve as an inspiration for creating one’s own spells, it probably is nowhere near enough for a practicing witch. Especially since those usually write their own spells and/or create their own rituals.
A beautiful-looking attempt of a book that might serve someone who’s only just begun or whose interest has been piqued by magick/witchcraft, though even then it’s still lacking some background information. And otherwise, probably best used as just an inspiration.
This is a good book for beginners that follows on from The Book of Spells by Nicola de Pulford, it covers the three most common forms of magic, elemental planetery and zodiac, and is easy to follow. The ingredients are all readily available and will be familiar to most people. A inspirational starting point.
Another one of my favorites growing up. I always used to look at it at the Psychic Eye because I thought that it was so beautiful. I don't remember doing much from this book, but I love the art and the way that it's layed out :)
