So I plucked this out of the local Little Free Library when I was leaving books there myself, and I am happy I did. Great recipes in a more traditional format. It’s not a glossy photo book with accompanying recipes, in fact I think the only photos are on the dust jacket. Never been a fan of Paula Deen as a “celebrity chef” as she is too very the top in a fake kind of way but there’s no denying these recipes are good.
I found this book at a local book fair and I'm so glad I got it. I feel like it's an encyclopedia of southern home cooked meals from appetizers, sides to desserts and breakfast. The banana bread and pumpkin bread have become my go-to recipes for after school treats or gifts for family and friends. Great find!
All the standard Paula Deen recipes you would expect to see in her cookbook. The typical Southern cookbook perfect for Sunday dinners, potlucks, and simply family meals.
I really liked Paul Deen's first cooking show on the Food Network (Paula's Home Cooking). This was when the Food Network had actually produced cooking shows - not an endless lineup of reality cooking shows. Over the last few years, I have become less enamored with Paula's shows, cooking and not to mention personality. However, I can't do without this cookbook. This is a staple in my kitchen. My favorite recipes are: Hash Brown Casserole, Corn Casserole and Green Bean Casserole. All of the recipes are good for Holiday Cooking!
Really good book if you are interested in southern cooking. She has a lot of traditional recipes and also some imaginative ones. But warning: these recipes will probably kill you with cholesterol- she is pretty heavy at times with her butter and oil and fried stuff. but then, it's pretty authentic stuff.
I really enjoyed reading this book. Unfortunately, it had to go back to the library before I could try out any of the recipes. This is one I actually plan to buy.
