A great action adventure for pre teens. My son loved the first series so we read this together. It had great pace and he wanted to keep reading well past bedtime. He liked the returning characters and he really liked Divi as a new addition. It felt familiar but was its own story. He really enjoyed trying to solve the mysteries. He’s very excited for the next book. Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced copy- all thoughts are our own
Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review 3 stars
Just want to explain real fast, I know this was middle grade, but I was not prepared for this to be on the low-low end of that scale. Which is nothing against it. I think this would be great for a young audience (it says 8, which I could agree with). This isn't one of those that transcends to any length past its recommended audience. And that is FINE, and I'd say it's a great, fun Fantasy read for that age range.
However, I am 28, and I definitely felt all of what I said above.
It was still a cute, quick read. It has a lore that would honestly be really fun to see in a show format, and it had some nice emotional parts. Also the typical advocations for friendship, believing in yourself, and all that.
So yeah, if you have young kids who want a dragon fantasy where they get to see someone around their age get dragons and kick baddie butt with some fun lore sprinkled in, then I can definitely recommend you give this series a shot for them!
A glorious return to this world with some familiar faces (goodies AND baddies); a brand new bunch of children, dragons and powers; a whole new adventure to go on! I knew he was not to be trusted - I always get a vibe. Camp Claw seems like such an amazing place to visit… I wish I could heart bond with a dragon!
"If dragons do sleep, it is to dream." "Of course I'm a genius. I'm a dragon."
Really enjoyed this first instalment of the new series. It was like the authors had a blank canvas to repaint, and the build-up to and the joy of discovery, connecting and learning about the world was just as strong here as it was in Dragon Mountain. There were parallels galore with the Dragon Realm series, but I feel there was enough identity here to separate it from its predecessor. I especially loved exploring Dragon's Claw (we finally got a map too, yay!) . I also appreciated the better tonal consistency between the storytelling and the writing, and I felt overall it was maturer, although still clearly a MG book.
'Most of all, Camp Claw is an opportunity for discovery.'
This story begins five years after 'Dragon Destiny', with new dragons and continents on earth after the Dragon Realm fell and merged with it. Lance and Zoe Lo are accepted into the prestigious and VERY COOL Camp Claw, run by the Dragon Force - the original Dragon Realm team from the previous books. Camp Claw is so incredible you'll want to live there!
Anyone can read this book, but for those who've read the previous series it's a thrill to meet each original member and dragon again (like Midnight!).
As for the new dragons, Violet, Neon and Jaws, they are a wonderful addition to this dragon world! But I loved Lance finally meeting Infinity.
The last part of the book is action-packed and there's a huge cliffhanger... so I started the preview chapter of book 2 at the back straight away. Readers will definitely want more!
This is a hugely imaginative and fun adventure. The central premise of the story is around the life-long heart-bond that dragons have with some humans which, once formed, releases and enhances their own hidden magical gifts (for both human and dragon). Who wouldn't love to form that special bond with a dragon? I know I would. Infinity's Secret starts with a great introduction to the world for those who haven't read the Dragon Realm series before everything goes wrong, and the impregnable Dragon's Claw base turns out to be not so safe as they thought. 12 year old Lance Lo, younger sister Zoe, and new friends Arthur and Bea, all newly arrived at Camp, along with the help of some terrific dragons, have to defend it from a deadly enemy, With great characters, wonderful and endearing dragons, and terrible danger, Infinity's Secret is a super start to this new series, and I am certain will be hugely popular with lower middle grade readers (and anyone who likes dragons!)
I must admit that as massive fans of the original Dragon Realm series with Billy and the gang, I was unsure what I would think of this but I absolutely loved it. An action packed adventure which introduces a new gang of dragons and their heart bonded humans who are sent to camp claw to train and bond with a dragon. The original gang including Billy, Dylan and Ling Fei, run Camp Claw and train new recruits to be sent into the world with their dragons to assure humans dragons are safe or protect the world from threats as part of the Dragon Force. Lance and his sister are sent to Camp Claw and soon form friendships, meet their dragons and end up discovering their powers when they are forced to defend Camp Claw and the world from a powerful threat. Loved how the ending set up the next adventure too. An absolutely great next step in this series which will appeal to a broad range of children
A brilliant return to this magical world with a few familiar faces as well as new children, dragons and powers.
It has been 5 years since the end of Dragon Destiny, the dragons and humans have been living alongside each other with the original Dragon force leading the way. Billy, Liu, Dylan and Charlotte are teachers at Camp Claw now. Zoe and Lance are the new main characters in this book.
Zoe is strong willed, independent and fierce while her brother Lance is quietly caring and loving as well as the narrator of the book. An epic, action packed dragon adventure.
The story is written wonderfully and it is a fast paced page turner. There is mysteries throughout the book.
Book one of the second series by these authors - it contains a lot of catch up for those who haven't read the earlier books in a while, but really contains a lot of the characters from the previous series.
This is really still focused toward young readers but now with a bit more action and a bit more grounding in the real world. Following characters who are now inhabiting a world that is a combination of our world and the Dragon Realm, this book shows how people and dragons have come to co-exist, and the development of more new futuristic technologies.
It doesn't grab me as much as the initial book, but it has a bit more pace. The ending feels abrupt and unsatisfying, but luckily I have the second book to be going on with.
This is a 309 page Fiction / Fantasy book. The book is geared toward tweens to read but I read it and I enjoyed it. Its about these Humans and Dragons meet each other and if their hearts glow together it means they love each other so the humans then claim that Dragon and they name the Dragon. (of course the Dragons do talk) but the humans fly around on their Dragons back and they go to the new world to be trained to fight with the Dragons (using the 1 magical power the humans receive while they are being trained). To help protect the new world. To me it was an interesting book.
Thanks to NetGalley and Simon and Schuster Australia for the chance to share this book with my children. My 9 and 12 year old daughters read this book, and it thoroughly engaged both of them. They enjoyed the friendships between the humans and dragons and said the story was action-packed - it was hard to get them to stop reading. They hadn't read any of the previous books, so they are now looking forward to reading more Dragon Realm stories.
Dragon Force #1 was a good book that I got in my bi-monthly middle-grade book box (with a tie-in gift for certain pages) from Once Upon A Book Club.
This book series, Dragon Force, is actually the sequel series to the Dragon Realm series of which I haven't read. Even though Dragon Force is a follow-up series set five years after the events of the last Dragon Realm book, I had no difficulty
My son absolutely loved this. We read a chapter together every day -- but often, we ended up reading 2-3 chapters! I'd recommend this to kids who have graduated from juvenile fiction but aren't quite ready for young adult fiction.
Tsang Song #7 Dragin Force #1 Dragons #7 Follow on series from Dragon Realm sees more Dragon based adventures, it was ok, but nothing really that you could say you would remember. Pretty average fare.
I like a good dragon story, and this book was a good magical and fantasy book. Although the plot wasn't super clear and I couldn't tell who the real bad guy was, I liked the dragons and the humans were fine.
Great start to this new spin-off series, and enjoyed seeing the old characters back again too. I read this all in one day and look forward to more in the series.
4.5/5 stars round up to 5 for this amazing narration. Another amazing installment in the Dragon World created by this wonderful author team. the new characters are adorable and loved Arthurs arc.
You too will dream of becoming part of the Dragon Force, a team of heart-bonded humans and dragons dedicated to protecting the world from dangerous magical creatures.
I received an eARC from the publishers through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. It has not affected my opinions.
INFINITY'S SECRET returns us to the world of Dragon Realm, but this time it's five years on after DRAGON DESTINY and the human and dragon realms have become one and something new.
Katie described this series to me, last year, as "dragon avengers" and that certainly feels right. There is a new force of dragons and humans working together to save the world, and our heroes join that group. There's a "magic school" vibe to it, with the heroes exploring the world of Camp Claw where humans learn about dragons, magic, and fighting. And there's a big bad lurking in the background.
The big bad is, at first, no seen, just their presence felt through things going wrong without a reason why. There's a pressing feeling that "something is bad and will get worse" - I really enjoyed trying to piece it together. (And when it was revealed! Eeeeee, it's way too spoilery to talk about but !!!!)
The narrator of this book is Lance, whose sister Zoe gets the heart bond and her powers so quickly. I loved that the book explores the mixed feeling of happiness for another and jealousy and not having that yourself. Lance watches his little sister get everything he's dreamt of with no way of knowing if he will get the same.
While this is a new series, it is also a continuation of the previous, showing what happens to the world after it changes so drastically. This means that Billy and the crew from that series are here, as mentors rather than the focus. It's so nice to be with familiar friends again even if we spend most of the time exploring with a new cast.
And the ending! I need the next book right now, thank you.
I'm a big fan of the DRAGON REALM series, so of course I was grabby hands for INFINITY'S SECRET, the spiritual sequel that follows new character Lance Lo, who is invited to Camp Claw to join the titular Dragon Force, a group of heart-bonded humans and dragons who save the world from peril.
This is a promising start with all the ingredients that made DRAGON REALM so dear: action, magic, friendship and a little bit of mystery. A lot of this book is more introductions, less action, as it builds Lance and his sister Zoe with their new friends Bea and Arthur, and their dragons. The actual plot disaster doesn't start until near the end – given that this is aimed at a younger audience, though, I think it's fine.
I particularly liked Arthur, I think he had the most potential of the new core four characters. It'll be interesting to see where the story goes, as typical with the last series INFINITY'S SECRET ends on a cliffhanger.
I hope I am not alone in my love of dragons and that there are lots of readers out there, maybe you are one of them, who love them too. They are such majestic, dominant, scary, and yet graceful and protective creatures what is there not to love about them? Of course, they come in a rainbow of colours; they can fly, taking us with them; and they can talk to us. I hope that if you were not already in my dragon-loving camp you are now! It is very important you join for in front of me right now is Katie & Kevin Tsang’s latest, spectacular story and I want to tell you all about it. The title is Dragon Force. Infinity’s Secret. It is the first title in a brand-new series, and, if you love it, I can tell you that, after you have read it and are waiting the next one, there is the Dragon Realm complete series by the same authors to be read…
Five years after the Dragon Realm fell into the Human Realm they are all living, mostly peacefully, side by side. But peace of course, only lasts so long and now a group of dangerous magical creatures are threatening to disrupt it. What the magical creatures may not have accounted for is the new group of heart-bonded humans and dragons whose task it is to protect the world. Twelve-year-old Lance Lo, his younger sister and their new friends are about to enrol at Camp Claw where they will be learning all the skills they are going to need to become protectors. They are going to train for the elite Dragon Force and help protect the world. When Camp Claw is attacked an evil plot is exposed suddenly these new recruits need to show they can save the day!
"In a world changed forever by the arrival of magic and dragons, there is music in the air."
This was a cute story and is perfect for fans of magical boarding schools, & How to Train Your Dragon.
This story is set in a future where our world has connected with a dragon world. Kids make heart bonds and get magical connections with dragons. It was very entertaining and a fun, fast-paced read!
