Ich war nie ein großer Fan des Hörspiels und auch das Buch konnte mich nicht so richtig überzeugen. Das liegt teilweise daran, dass ich die "Ocean World" (aka Sea World) Verherrlichung sehr irritierend finde, aber vor allem daran, dass mich der Fall ein wenig langweilt. So richtig logisch find ich ihn leider auch nicht.

Der Anfang beginnt vielversprechend, aber nachher plätschert es recht spannungslos über die Bühne bis zum sehr dramatischen Ende. (November 2023)

Mein ursprünglicher Gedanke war, dass das eine locker flockige Sache war, ein bisschen leichte Unterhaltung kurz vor dem Schlafengehen.
Ich lag so falsch.
Die Geschichte war wohl spannender, als ich oberflächlich wahrgenommen habe, denn ich lag noch eine Weile wach im Bett und bin über die Schlüsselmomente gegangen.
Die Geschichte war gut aufgenommen. Der Erzähler im besonderen hatte eine angenehme Stimme.
Natürlich ist alles viel zu schnell und leicht passiert, für meinen Geschmack. (Als Kind, hingegen, hätte ich es geliebt, keinen einzigen Kritikpunkt.) Als Erwachsene, die in Kindheitserinnerungen schwelgen wollte, fand ich die Geschichte ein bisschen zu leicht und offensichtlich und die Stimmen der Darsteller, besonders von Constance, nicht ausdrucksstark genug.
Trotzdem denke ich, dass ich weitere Folgen auf Spotify anhören werde.

Another good adventure of the Three Investigators. I sometimes have to keep in mind that this series is geared more towards children or at least tweens rather than adults because sometimes things seem a little far-fetched, but thankfully not totally implausible.
In this case, a beached pilot whale is found and rescued. That part was fine. However, the trainer puts the whale in a pool and has the whale doing tricks literally the first day. She's swimming with him and having him do special jumps and such the first day! I know whales are plenty smart but this whale went straight from the ocean to a pool and immediately treated the trainer as a best friend and did everything that was asked. Just seemed to happen a little too fast.
Other than that, this was a good mystery that really keeps the reader guessing. There were certain things you could probably figure out, but some things were a total mystery until the reveal.
All in all a good entry in the series, but honestly I think I've yet to read a bad one.

This is the 35th book in The Three Investigators series. I believe this is the first one written by Marc Brandel, and it is refreshing to have some of the original characteristics back. Again we see the colored chalk question marks, the code "ramble and scramble," and Jupiter pinching his lower lip in thought. The mystery itself isn't extremely demanding, but is still good quality when compared with other children's series.

I read this series to my 7 year old son and we both love them! The writing is on a level he understands and the mystery has us guessing until the end.

When Jupiter, Bob, and Pete find a stranded baby whale on the beach, they dig a small trench in order to save it. But when they return, the whale has been taken and decide to track it down.
Number 35 in the series, this was originally published in the UK in 1985 (I was sixteen and didn’t even realise it existed until many years later) and is the first “new to me” Three Investigators book I’ve read in more than perhaps 25 years. With that in mind, it was interesting going into it. Brandel (who’ve I’ve read before since he wrote a couple of the Crimebusters books - a follow-on series I didn’t enjoy at all) has a very different style (possibly contemporary 80s) to Arthur, Arden and Carey and it creates some glitches, especially POV jumps (sometimes within the same paragraph) and the fact everyone says “hullo” rather than “hello”. There are also some oddities that go against everything that’s come before - Hans and Konrad become ‘Hans and his brother’, Aunt Mathilda’s thought processes are shown, a character called Pancho is introduced (never seen before) and performs one task then disappears again and Jupe, whose height is given as 5 foot 4, is described as ‘pudgy’ several times. As for the mystery, it doesn’t really stand up - the use of the whale makes no real sense (and are whales really that smart?) and the case has a bit of a TJ Hooker feel to it. It wasn’t bad - I had fun reading it - but I can’t see myself being eager to re-visit it any time soon.

This is Marc Brandel's first novel with this series. He definitely had a better feel for the series than the other writers right out of the gate. There are some interesting variants here: "Hector Sebastian's" introduction is much more verbose than the way the other writers have handled them. Plus, it has taken on a little bit more personality too. Brandel even takes the time to allude to Worthington, but explains that he is away on vacation.
This is a good case, but pretty convoluted as the books tend to be later on. But I think he could have taken the time to come up with a slightly less "random" happenstance to use as the trigger for the case.

A pleasant book about what seems to be the smartest whale in the history of the space-time continuum. There are also nice moments with the three investigators. This feels somewhat like fan fiction as the writer is very straight forward without any hint of skill at the writer's craft that Robert Arthur displayed in the early books. A mystery paid for and delivered and nothing more.

Wiedzieliście że wieloryby piloty są bardzo inteligentne? Po pierwsze ich mózgi są dość sporych rozmiarów, ale to nie wszystko. Charakteryzują się one bardzo dobrą pamięcią długotrwałą, świetnymi zdolnościami komunikacyjnymi (niektóre grupy tworzą nawet własne dialekty!),oraz poczuciem przynależności (mają bardzo silną empatię wobec pozostałych członków grupy).
A czemu o tym w ogóle piszę? Bo właśnie na takiego wieloryba natykają się pewnego dnia trzej detektywi. Młody osobnik w wyniku burzy został odłączony od stada i w czasie odpływu został uwięziony w zbyt płytkiej wodzie. Chłopaki bardzo przypotmnie wobec niemożności sprowadzenia fachowej pomocy, pomogli młodemu na swój własny sposób. Wykopali spory dół w jego pobliżu, wyłożyli brezentem i wpompowali tam wodę morską. Do czasu znalezienia właściwej pomocy lub przypływu, to powinno wystarczyć! Jednak kiedy później wrócili, żeby zobaczyć jak maluch sobie radzi, okazało się, że ssak zniknął! Raczej nie było szans na to, żeby sam już przedostał się do oceanu, bo nadal było za płytko. Ktoś musiał go porwać! Na to wskazywały też ślady znalezione wokół tej prowizorycznej sadzawki. Kiedy później rozmawiali z dziewczyną z pobliskiego oceanaium, wydawała się zaskakująco sporo wiedzieć, nawet zanim zdradzili jej szczegóły... Czy ona coś ukrywa? Kiedy jeszcze dodatkowo w kwaterze głównej odezwał się telefon i jakiś męski głos poprosił ich o odnalezienie wielorywa i pomoc w wypuszczeniu go z powrotem na wolność, Jupe już wie, że znowu natknęli się na nie lada zagadkę! Czy trójka przyjaciół podoła temu zadaniu?
Z ogromnym sentymentem wracam do tych książek! Pamiętam jak zaczytywałam się w nich mając lat kilkanaście, i jakie wrażenie robiły na mnie złomowisko państwa Jonesów i przygody w jakie chłopaki się pakowali! Może i jestem nostalgiczna, ale klimat tych książek nadal do mnie przemawia!

Esta saga de novelas juveniles iniciada por el escritor Robert Arthur en 1964 y continuada tras su muerte en 1969 por diversos autores relata las aventuras de tres jóvenes adolescentes en EEUU.
Los primeros 30 libros de los 43 de la serie original incluyen al cineasta Alfred Hichtcock como interlocutor ficticio de los jóvenes de forma que siempre aparece en la introducción de la novela presentando a los personajes, en la conclusión cuando los investigadores le presentan el resumen del caso desglosado y en algunas ocasiones como personaje más activo proporcionando o recomendando a sus conocidos los servicios de investigación de los Tres Investigadores.
Desde la novela 31 hasta la 43, aunque se conservó el nombre de "Alfred Hitchcock y los Tres Investigadores", el cineasta fue sustituido por un escritor ficticio llamado Héctor Sebastián ya que Alfred Hitchcock falleció en 1980 y sus herederos no permitieron seguir usando el nombre de este en las novelas.
Las novelas usan un estilo de escritura sencillo, ideal para niños o adolescentes poco habituados a la lectura, cada novela incluye varias ilustraciones y todas las novelas se centran en la resolución de un caso en el que se ven implicados de una u otra forma los investigadores.

Doch als sie später nachschauen ist der Wal verschwunden. Die zuständige Organisation kann ihnen auch keine befriedigenden Antworten geben und so verfolgen sie die Eigentümerin bis zu einem Haus von einem Mr. Slayter. Dieser hält den Wal in seinem Garten.
Peter, Bob und Justus finden heraus, dass Mr. Slayter auf die Hilfe des Wals angewiesen ist, da er ihm etwas aus dem Meer holen soll.
Doch als plötzlich eine unbekannte Person auf der Bildfläche auftaucht wird es gefährlich.
Ein sehr cooler Anfang wie ich finde, doch schnell hat die Folge an Espeit und irgendwie auch Originalität verloren.
Die Auflösung und vor allem das Verhalten des Bösewichts waren viel zu random und schnell, ebenso hat man in dieser Folge die Gefahr der Story nicht wirklich abgenommen.
Eine Folge die man schön nebenbei hören kann mehr aber auch meiner Meinung mach nicht.

The first of only four T3I books by this writer. In something of a back-pedal for the series, its simple clear prose and lack of ambiguity would work for child readers. (Perhaps ironically, I read none of the Brandel books as a child.) Written with obvious care and attention to detail, and featuring excellent character work, in its own way it's every bit as accomplished as the books by MV Carey and William Arden. Terrific stuff. Probably a 4, but loses a star for the (although Carey got away with more outlandish material) and for its offhand othering of people from Mexico, Vietnam and, uh, Alabama.

No cóż. Pamiętam, że jako dzieciak zaczytywałem się w tej serii jak szalony i po odświeżeniu wciąż rozumiem, czemu tak było. Młodzi detektywi mieli wszystko to, o czym mógł marzyć 10-latek, na czele z gadżetami i tajną bazą z ukrytym wejściem (wow, wow, wow 😁). Dzisiaj fabuła wydaje się być za prosta, poprowadzona po łebkach i za szybko zmierza ku zakończeniu. Fakt, że bohaterowie są traktowani przez dorosłych w pełni poważnie zakrawa na żart, a w tej konkretnej książce niesamowicie irytujące był dodatkowo wątek ponadnormatywnie inteligentnego wieloryba. Mam świadomość, że ta książka nie jest skierowana do 38-letnich malkontentów, tylko takich właśnie dzieciaków, jakim sam byłem prawie 3 dekady temu, ale jednak jest słaba i ogólnie i w ramach cyklu.

Maybe my concentration was off, but I didn't get into the story as a T3I mystery. It's alright as a childrens' book, with an adequate misdirection until the final reveal. I just feel that the talents of Jupe, Pete and Bob were wanting in this adventure.

This is not as strange as some of their books but I love whales so I'm particularly fond of it. There is plenty of action in this one and smart thinking by members other than just Jupiter.

Lots of humor in this one. But also one of Jupiter’s dumbest decisions so far in the entire series — to confront one of his prime suspects alone in an abandoned park at night.

Unfortunately this is the worst during the re-read (or in this case, it was a first read) of the Three Investigators. They really jumped the whale in this one. I expect no one to get that altered reference, but I also don't expect anyone to read this review. lol

• Bei „Ocean World“ wirkt Constance Carmel auffällig informiert; Justus merkt, dass sie Details kennt, die sie eigentlich nicht wissen kann – und dass es gar keinen offiziellen Anruf wegen des Wals gegeben haben kann.
• Der Wal (Fluckey) wird tatsächlich von Constance genutzt/trainiert: Zusammen mit Mr. Slater suchen sie per Boot ein Wrack, denn dort liegt eine wasserdichte Metallkassette, die geborgen werden soll.
• Es kommt zu Sabotage (u. a. manipulierte Ausrüstung), trotzdem gelingt die Bergung: Bob lockt Fluckey mit einem ins Wasser gelegten Tonband (Walgesang) an, sodass der Wal die Kassette an den Strand bringt – genau in dem Moment taucht ein maskierter Mann mit Revolver auf.
• Auflösung: Die Kassette enthält Bündel von Geldscheinen – aber mit identischer Seriennummer: Falschgeld. Slater will es unbedingt aus dem Wrack holen, während Paul Donner (der maskierte Mann) das verhindern wollte, weil er das Falschgeld gedruckt hatte und durch Slater erpresst wurde; Reynolds nimmt beide fest.

The book is a fast, easy one to read. It was originally written for young adults, but is now more suitable for upper middle grades. The three investigators remind me of several other book detectives such as Nero Wolfe and Sherlock Holmes.

The Three Investigators series is a great one for kids, especially boys. These are old books, but it is well worth the search for them at the library and at used bookstores.

Olipas virkistävä lukukokemus, jonka myötä palasin sinne 20 vuoden taakse, jolloin nämä kirjat tuli luettua lähes kaikki. Tapahtumia riittää ja jännitettävääkin löytyy, ratkaisuakaan ei ennalta arvaa. :)

This is a great book for kids. It really peaked my interest with mystery novels. It kept you guessing throughout. Plus I really liked whales at that age so it was pretty cool.

Book in Bahasa Indonesia that I own since I was kid. Good book but not exactly my favorite. I enjoyed it though but not so much.
