On a hidden isle in the seas near dark age England, a young fairy named Ethywyne Eleganta secretly gives birth to the first youngling in fourteen years. She and her child become the hunted prize of the wicked troll general Sunderin. Ethywyne must make the perilous journey across the Fairy Realms, to get her child to the Fairy Queen, the only one who can protect her from the shadow that seeks to destroy all of Fairykind. Her experience takes her from a humble life of gardening and craft-making to the center of an adventure that grows to involve fickle goblins, giant ogres, magic fairy dust, thieving pixies, an enchanted hedge maze, and even Vikings of the Norse lands who happen upon the isle in their plundering voyages. This is Book 1 of the Eleganta series.
Now, I don’t know if I can really be talking knowing that I have a bias because my dad wrote this book but, I really did enjoy it a lot. I was very engaged and I felt like I always knew what was going on and what the world looked and felt like. This book kept me on the edge of my seat for a large portion of the story and the ending was very satisfying that most things were cleared up but there still room for wonder about the next book. Everything about the world and the characters was so creative and original. I felt like I was reading something completely new and different. I would definitely recommend this book even to someone who isn’t as enthusiastic about fantasy as I am. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was the best fairy story I've read! I have followed the author for several years, waiting for him to complete the second half. Now that the second part is out, I'm far-reaching this first book to remind me of the story, for all I do remember is being captivated by the characters, feeling immensely happy with the story and very sad when it ended. It's a great read!
Very rich descriptive language. I feel like I'm in the forest with the characters experiencing their trials with them. This is my first book I've read on my brand new Kindle. I'm enjoying both the story and my Kindle more than I thought I would. This story is very worth the $1.00 I paid to download it. If you like fantasy or fairy stories this one is for you. So far, it is something I would let my eight year old fairy lover read. Of course, I have not finished yet but I have not found anything too scary yet. It does talk about an unknown dark shadow, the dark ones and there is a battle which I am currently in the middle of.
Eleganta is a very well book that is descriptive and engaging. The storyline is clean with no curse words or sexual words or activity so it is perfect for older kids who like fantasy novels. I particularly love that the author does not write our heroine to be a cowardly whiner and as the story proceeds she becomes braver and stronger she may be a fairy but she becomes a mother bear to protect her child as she is the first wild born child in 14 years. The storyline also introduces you to many mystical creatures such as trolls, nymphs, goblins etc in this uncomplicated but intricate plot. I highly recommend this book to readers of fantasy novels young and older. This is my honest unbiased review that I am voluntarily leaving of my own volition. I received this book for free at my request.
This book has to be classified in the hard-core fantasy genre. It reminds me of a fairy-based Lord of the Rings. This book covers the first major battle that the fairies must face in order to save their entire species. This is a good book, but I don't know if I will read the others. I'm just not that big of a fantasy fan
I don't normally read books about Fairies, but this was actually pretty good. A little predictable, but still a good read. I'm surprised they haven't turned it into a movie.
It had a slow start, but once it got going I couldn't put it down. I do hope there will be another one written soon. I feel there is so much more to know!
a rather charming easy summer read that i got for $1.50 on my kindle. i enjoyed the descriptions and overall plot line although the dialogue was rather dull/repeative.
I really enjoyed this book. I haven't read many books about fairies...but I'm no stranger to ogres and trolls. This book had all of those and more. I felt like it got off to a bit of a slow start and, in the beginning, the main character seemed a little bit naive and dim for my tastes. However, I was pleasantly surprised at how well her character, as well as the others, devoloped as the story progressed. The story follows Ethywyne, the only fairy to mother a youngling in the past 14 years, and her protectors as she evades beings of darkness that are hell-bent on capturing Ethywyne and her child...and destroying the rest of fairykind along the way. Ethywyne and her protector make their way to the castle of the Queen, who is their only hope for survival of their race and protection for the future of all fairies. The story has everything...love, betrayal, adventure, merriment, destruction, and hope.
Eleganta is a story of fairy kind. It is full of enchanting and not so enchanting places, and mystical creatures. As a young adult book it reads well and smoothly. There’s the battle between the trolls and the fairies, a betrayer, grogs, fairy eaters and many who will help Ethywyne, the heroine, on her journey. The story develops well and the characters are well developed. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to the next story of Ethywyne and her journey.
It was...okay. I think it was like 99 cents on the Kindle, and I LOVE, LOVE fantasy, magic books. This was actually 5 stars until the end, which was a terrible end that just leaves to hanging. I think the author had to leave in a hurry, so some random person- who hadn't actually read the book- just finished the last part for him. I loved the whole fairy world, though...so fun!
This story just seemed to drift along, although there did seem to be a bit of activity as it ended ready for the sequel. I shan't be buying. I found myself wanting to shake the lead character - really wet!
I really liked the story. It has some interesting moments, but I found most of it to be very predictable and somehow just didn't get into the story. I'm not sure it is the author's writing or anything. Just wasn't a favorite of mind.
I'm having a really hard time focusing on this book. It seemed really interesting at first, but a few chapters in and I'm bored and don't have any desire to continue reading it. I'll take a break and come back to it later.
Read this a few years ago and loved it. Just reread it and still enjoyed it. So glad book 2 is finally out. I felt like I was traveling through the fairy realms with all the characters and fighting to save the fairies with them. 🧚
This book was an absolute slog for me... just, painful. I can't even put my finger on why but it seemed to drag for-ev-er and I just couldn't finish it.
