There's no Chariss is in danger. Her geasa is hampered by the effects of a friend's marriage. The dashing Nigel Taiman hides something from her, yet demands she stay at his family's estate where he and her wizard guardian intend to keep her safe. But the sorcerer Lord Drake and Julette The Betrayer know she's there, and their monstrous army marches that way. When prophecies stack up to threaten an arrogant deity, Chariss must choose between the dragon that courts her and the ostracized kings of the Southlands for help. Evil stalks her at every turn and madness creeps over the goddess who guides her. Can an orphan-turned-Protector resist the dark side of her heritage? Or will she sacrifice all to keep her god-charge safe?

After her reincarnation from a Kemp's Ridley Sea Turtle to a simple human female, Sandy Lender figured she had to do something that let her stay near the ocean or Gulf waters. Being in a sunny environment keeps the vampires on a tight leash, too. So Sandy lives in SW Florida where she edits a magazine for the day job, edits books for the evening job, and helps with sea turtle conservation on the weekends. She lets the companion parrots and the muse fight for her attention in between it all.

Her first novel from ArcheBooks Publishing, Choices Meant for Gods, was released March 2007. The novels, novellas, short stories, magazine pieces, and poetry have been ongoing ever since! Sandy has garnered a handful of technical writing awards, a handful of creative writing awards, some fancy nominations, and excellent stress-reducing meds over the years...

Choices Meant for Kings – Book two in the trilogy
Rating: 4 of 5
Author: Sandra Lender
Available: Hardcover, Kindle
As intricate and complex prophecy unfolds, Amanda Chariss – goddess of war – must protect the god Rohne from evil forces though her own magic (geasa) has been substantially hampered. While war builds on the horizon between the weakened gods and ever stronger evil sorcery Julette and her minions, Chariss must build an alliance to have any hope of survival. But there are those within the ranks of the gods who may do not always have the best interest of Rohne and Chariss in mind threatening their plans. All the while Chariss and Nigel Taiman fight to hold on to their love against the wishes of many and perhaps the prophecy itself.

Choices Meant For Kings is book two in Sandy Lender’s Choices trilogy. I would advise readers to make sure to read the first book of this series before picking up the second installment. The world is complex with a number of interwoven plots, relationships, and characters that were initially a challenge for me to understand given I had not read the first book. The author does do a nice job providing the cast of characters and such at the beginning to lay a foundation, but to fully appreciate how this world evolves, Choices Meant for Gods is essential.

Though a fantasy novel, the draw to this book is the romance between Chariss and Nigel. At each step along the way, another roadblock is placed in front of them as they struggle to begin their life together. Wars, other would be suitors, hidden secrets revealed, their responsibilities to others, and a complex prophecy all challenge their future. It is this thread between them that provides the driving force moving the story forward. The conclusion of this book is a high action and suspenseful series of events that will certainly cause readers to rush out and purchase the last installment. An enjoyable read all around.

As the two moons rise over Arcana, Chariss has many questions on her mind: What’s Nigel Taiman hiding from me? Why is Julette trying to stop the Taiman line? On the other hand, Chariss is keeping a secret from her fiancé’ as well. A dragon flies to her bedroom chamber balcony every night and Chariss tells it everything that’s bothering her. Why has the dragon befriended her? Dragons don’t befriend people. It’s just not done! Who is the dragon?

Could it be that he’s the evil goddess, Julette, who walks the world of Onweald now in a dragon’s body? Maybe she turned one of her soldiers into a dragon to spy on her. Julette will stop at nothing to over throw Onweald & stop the Taiman line. If the line ends, it means the end of geasa.

Since the youngest Taiman brother married, Chariss and all of the gods and goddesses of Arcana have lost their geasa. Now, they have to battle the evil goddess Julette to get it back.

The Goddess of War, looks out of her bed chamber window to view her army on the front lawn below. We can handle anything Julette hands us. Little does she know that Julette has placed spies among them!

To add to Chariss’ problems, she finds that she is also The Masters Protector. The Master is Rohn, God of Onweald. He seems to think that he can do just about anything he did before. He does realize that he’s lost his geasa like the other gods and goddesses. Chariss has her hands full protecting him. Her problems don’t stop with the god Rohn, however.

The evil wizard, Drake who is also Julette’s puppet, has been chasing her down since she was little. He wants her for his own evil purposes.

I highly recommend this fantasy! This isn’t just your regular romance but it’s also a war story with a high body count.

The author takes us into the world of Onweald with ease making us feel like we’re fighting right alongside Chariss and her loyal followers!

Within minutes of turning to the first page of Sandy Lender’s Choices Meant for Kings, I’d forgotten about my surrounding and was transported to the incredible world of Onweald. It’s a marvelous place where gods, goddesses, demons, sorcerers, and dragons blend with the residents; a place where spells are cast and prophecies uncovered. Through vivid descriptions, Onweald comes so alive it’s as though it might be possible to open my front door and actually see Ryfel on the front lawn or a dragon on the roof.

Ms. Lender has created a completely believable world occupied with credible multi-dimensional characters with unique quirks and personalities. With their charm, flaws and witty banter, I found it impossible not to love Chariss, Nigel and Henry.

In my opinion, you don’t have to be a fantasy lover to enjoy this book. The non-stop action offers something for everyone including drama, adventure and love. The book is over 500 pages but the last line came way too soon and left me craving more.

Choices Meant for Kings is the second of a trilogy but can easily be read as a stand-alone. However, I’m glad I read Choices Meant for Gods first because I enjoyed knowing more about the background and seeing the characters grow and develop. Now I can’t wait to see how it all plays out in the third book, Choices Made for All.

I don't think I'm allowed to review my own book! He he. But I can add it to my bookshelf since I've read it MULTIPLE times during writing and editing, can't I? Is that allowed?
