Rate this book
Raiven’s life is the definition of complicated. She spends most of her time solving supernatural crime cases and when she’s not traveling for work, she’s assisting her Overseer in maintaining order in her home city of Decver.

When one of her friends is injured as a result of Raiven's current case, the agent’s life goes beyond complicated. By order of her Overseer, she is forced to constantly be in the presence of Kisten, the local Alpha and the one man in her life that she’s not allowed to have.

As Raiven rushes to solve the case and find her killer, will she and Kisten be able to maintain their resolve, or will they finally submit to their own desires?

Well…. I don’t really want to be this negative when it is the first review of a book - a debut furthermore - but it left me very frustrated and uneasy. Storytel (a Swedish audiobook service) had categorized it as a romance, but I felt it sorely lacked in that respect. The main ”love” relationship made me squirm and not in a good way… There was more pain and jealousy than love and caring. To continue this review I have to say that the characters was onedimensional and confusing and that the world building was interesting, but too little of it. I feel that the authors keep to many secrets from the reader and perhaps should tell us more about both the world and the characters background and motivations. I would be interested in comparing with other peoples’ readings of this debut book. Hope there is some redeeming qualities in the next book!

This world was a little overwhelming at first because there are so many different types of characters in the story. However, that made the plot that much more interesting. The sexual fluidity amongst the characters was very interesting and not like anything I’ve read before. Love has no boundaries in this tale.

The action and adventure is spot on as well although there were moments when I wanted more detail and descriptions about the specific scene unfolding. I wanted to be a little more immersed in the world.

The development of the FMC and the MMC is happening at a slow pace, but it kept me tuned in to the plot. And after that tiny cliffhanger at the end, I definitely want to explore more. 🤭

I have not read many fantasy books, but I can say without a shadow of doubt that I love this genre! I will be purchasing books two and three in the Sealed Blood series! Got book one free on Amazon!

Also, this is my first read by Kirro Burrows and I’m here for their writing style!

Highly recommend!

So Lost

*****Spoilers*****

More a 2.5 really. It needs so many more details. Except for the prologue when Raiven escapes, from the start of the book through the end, I felt like I had been dropped into the middle of the story and was left to catch up but never did. We're in the realm of supernaturals and she's a huge question mark from abilities to physical description. All we know is what little we're given throughout the book and never a classification though she's apparently powerful. Maybe? Because there are times in the book that I don't understand. One moment she's standing up to her Overseer, the next she's afraid of a lich suitor, whatever that means since the only thing I know from this book is that a lich is undead and has blood that's irresistible to Raiven.

The relationships are well established which is fine, my problem is there's isn't any catching up for the reader, just references to prior dealings. We go from meeting Kisten, alpha lion shifter as he is leaving the coven and Raiven entering, to he and Raiven in a relationship and sharing I love yous with references to having feelings for one another for a year, to something about an oath that means they can't touch without Raiven being in pain. Although the book ended, I still don't know what the whole oath is about, just that Lucius and his retainer Evelyn need to lift it from Kisten. I don't even know what it means to be a retainer for an overload. There's just not enough detail to get me there with this book though the story itself has intriguing parts that kept me reading.

The lack of details is pervasive throughout the book and so much is just sat without tying it to something or someone else. There isn't much in the way of descriptions of people or places either. Nothing about what the Overseer hierarchy is or what it means, what abilities these supernaturals have, why the lich is such a threat, what kind of relationship Kisten may have had with said lich in the past, why Evalyn hates Raiven, the list goes on. I'd even like to know what happened with her sister's body, how long her soul has been in the locket, where her sister's body is buried, and by when Raiven has to return her sister's soul before it'll be like her sister was never born. There are so many places where I'm left floundering and confused that I won't be continuing the series. I just can't bring myself to pick up the next one if I'm going to be left so much in the dark. Holding some information back here and there is okay, but I can't even decide if I like any of the characters or understand them.

This book was lots of fun to read and very descriptive. Felt like I was watching a movie at times! It has some dark moments, but nothing maudlin – just raw and gritty and dirty and real.
Great characters, human and non. This novel holds its own with the solid world building and plot structure, and an interesting cast and plenty of intrigue, action and danger to go around. Half the fun in reading this book is trying to figure out exactly what is going on... what it all means. Excited for the Next one!

3.5 ⭐️
There are so many problematic themes as well as overplayed concepts. I also had no idea if I was accidentally reading a sequel because nothing made sense in the first half.
But it’s also clearly a fantasy about supernatural beings - which permitted me to carelessly suspend disbelief - and it succeeds in keeping you curious enough to want to read the next book.

I loved this 1st book of a 3 part series. I read it in 2 readings. I couldn't put it down. I'm excited for the 2nd book. It's exciting from beginning to end.
