An accidental date brings together two instant enemies in this hilarious and steamy grumpy boss romance from Wall Street Journal bestselling author Nicole Snow.
Never sweat the small stuff, they say. How about when you wake up with a giant stranger showering in your hotel room? There's nothing tiny about Brock Winthrope. He even roars like a lion when he sees me. I scream back. And after narrowly avoiding a murder scene, we've got trouble.
He says he'll fix our reservation blunder since he's the manager (he's not). He thinks I'll smack his resort with the rotten egg review from hell (I might). I've never seen a man so grumpy groveling his heart out to wow me (it's working). Oh, but it gets better.
Brock whisks me away on an amazing “date” and things get heated. I'm still dreaming about obnoxiously hot kisses under the stars months later when fate strikes. I wasn't supposed to see him again. Not at this dumpster fire marketing job I desperately need. Not when I crash into him—literally. Definitely not when I find out he's the crankyface billionaire CEO signing my checks.
Cue the freaking out. The stormy glares. The tension thicker than quicksand. The hopeless promises to “just do my job” without choking on Mr. Grumpmuffin's attitude. What's worse than one messy date with your radioactive boss? One more.
Expect enemies-to-lovers fireworks! Delightful banter, slow-burn sweetness, plus one office beast who finally learns how to smile for the lady who ignites his world.

I’ve never read a more frustrating miscommunication trope. Like dammit just talk.
and because of that I was bored for the second half of the book, because it lasted so damn LONG. Until a Soviet came in with a gun, and I perked up for 5 pages. (for real why have these last 2 books had like thriller subplots, fun times)
also I can’t believe the mmc was named Brock, instant ick
Mood I was in reading this book: I wanted a guaranteed book I’d enjoy since I loved the rest of this series so much. What I liked: definitely a really sweet descent into their relationship. What I didn’t like: a lot didn’t make sense- he “couldnt” be with her at first because of company policy but then when they did finally get together, like a chapter later, there was no issue with company policy… and it wasn’t mentioned again. They had a mini break up that was fine but it lasted like a day and didn’t really matter in the long run or in the storyline so I’m not sure why it was in there to begin with. Their 80% breakup also didn’t make sense to me as to WHY it happened. He wanted her to go spend like a few months in another country because another hotel was sabotaging him? Uhhhh….? Then she got mad at him for suggesting it and refused to speak to him for weeks while he sent her gifts. Disproportionate responses on all sides to a disagreement that I didn’t really understand the logic in to begin with. And ultimately, 560 pages for a contemporary romance is way too much. I really love this bossy grump series so I didn’t mind the previously lengthy books but this one did not need the extra 200 pages. It really dragged and not in a good way. Tropes of note: funny meet cute, enemies to lovers, office/ boss romance Spice: a good amount of sex!! Grammar / writing: good for the most part. Some repetitive words used in close proximity of each other but that’s a personal pet peeve of mine!
This meet-cute is everything—and then it just gets wilder! I just love how fate keeps throwing together sunny bird nerd Pippa and iron-fisted supergrump billionaire Brock Winthrope. From the moment a huge mistake has him showering in her hotel room to the day she literally smacks into him and finds out he's the big boss! Hysterically funny, unpredictable, and wickedly steamy. Nicole Snow brings us another heartwarming roller coaster ride so sticky sweet you won't be able to wipe that smile off your face. Grab it with Kindle Unlimited and enjoy!
When I first started reading this story. I thought it might be a long story, that I would loose interest in before it ends. Nice love story, good characters, plenty of humour, and a mystery .
Where are all these 5 star reviews coming from? Paid for ARCs? I-just so much wrong and the self talk. I can’t stand reading negative self talk, especially from someone who is supposed to be a mid-30s CEO and alpha, he’s not telling himself he’s a blockhead or knucklehead. They both had negative babe calling to themselves. That’s an automatic DNF when it’s immature name calling to yourself.
First off, if you wake up at 2am in a big hotel room when you are by yourself…as a FEMALE, you don’t go to find out WTF the noise is, you run and get the front desk to figure out what’s going on and then you deal with it. It’s not, ‘yes- I hear a noise let’s get a lamp and run after it. That’s like that car commercial where the group doesn’t get in the running car and instead goes to the barn with all the chainsaws and the serial killer is to scored by their stupidity to do anything…
That boils this down for me. Their stupidity was so annoying I DNFd after chapter 3.
Also what’s the h’s name? Is it Pippa or Piper? Be consistent. Go read The Forty Sixty Rule or Honestly, I was Faking it by different authors and then come back and read this and then make your review. They both have grumpy Hs who are cinnamon rolls and OMG, the writing, and they are new authors. Both of them. Go, run, read those books. Both are open door in the smut.
Let me start by saying that I have loved all of the books in this series, but I only finished this one because I hate not finishing books.
I have never disliked a female lead as much as this one. She was lacking real character depth, was immature - her reaction to being ask to leave the city for her own safety - was childish at best, but really selfish and a bore to read. Any normal person would have told her to get stuffed, but the fact that he felt the need to blanket her with gifts and apologies - OMG stop.! She also came across as so uninspiring at her new job that the overarching sense was ‘why’?. Why was she promoted? Where was this amazing marketing genius hiding because it definitely was not showcased in the book. Overall, there were so many opportunities to create two great leads, but both were vapid and the storyline was inane. Additionally, her best friend was forgettable and really i don’t understand what she was even doing in the book.
Even now after having completed the book, I am so frustrated with how much of a letdown it was from all the other books I have read in this series and in the authors’ broader repertoire.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
long book. Long chapters, jokes and name calling wasn’t really my cup of tea. the connection was very superficial lust and nothing was added to move past that.
The book has a lot of fluff, at times things should conclude within a page-page and a half when it lasts 3-5 pages of just nonsense. The characters are so immature. A lot of curse words, mainly overused F word.
I was really bored and over it by around 40% and would have been a DNF if that was my style.
One Bossy Date is part of the Bossy Suits series and features Brock Winthrope, a billionaire owner of an elite hotel chain and Piper, a social media travel influencer.
I found it very confusing and distracting that the heroine was referred to as Pippa over 75 times, and Piper over 150 times, and then her sister called her Pippy, which is a family nickname, about 15 times. I went back to reread and could only assume it’s a name error. If you read the reviews, you will see readers refer to her the two different ways, and I am going with Piper.
I loved the first 25% of the book, especially their meet cute in the hotel that he owns. Meeting by chance is my favorite trope. Piper Renee was provided a complimentary stay in the penthouse of a luxury resort in Hawaii as a mid-grade travel social media influencer. Her BFF worked at their headquarters and provided the opportunity. Piper was pure sunshine and filled with wonder, and it was obvious they were attracted to one another from the beginning.
Brock inherited the chain and CEO status from his grandparents and wanted to make them proud. Some of the locations have been targeted with bad reviews and while he had a hutch it was sabotage, he needed proof. I just don't understand how a billion dollar businesses didn't have an IT team to trace the IP addresses of the negative reviews, especially since Brock already suspected who it was.
Because of a mishap when they met, he goes overboard trying to impress her to leave a positive review and they catch feelings during their limited time on the island. Piper and the other characters kept referring to him as a grump and hard to work for, but I didn’t find this at all. I thought he had a great relationship with his assistant and driver, and was very considerate while maintaining professionalism and a sense of humor. Sure he barked a few orders, but that is normal for a CEO plus he was under stress trying to navigate an investigation and rework his marketing strategy.
It’s at that time he and Piper are re-introduced as she is a new hire at his company based in Seattle. When she realized he was in fact the CEO and not the manager of the resort, that’s when her personality took a nosedive in my opinion. I found her very immature and didn't care for how disrespectfully she would speak to him in a business setting. During their alone time, she repeated herself over and over and wouldn’t let go of how he misrepresented himself and move forward, even though he apologized. He went all in and shared very personal information about his life, but she wasn’t open and honest in return when he was only trying to help her. I get that she was trying to be independent and solve her own problems, but it rubbed me the wrong way.
I liked how she looked after he sister and father, but not how she left her friend and coworker in the dust a few times. I did like her marketing ideas and that he trusted her to be on the team he developed to help solve the problem, and while rather dramatic and over the top, that the "mystery" was solved by the end of the book, all thanks to Piper.
There were several funny parts and I do love this author’s writing, especially the build up of the steamy scenes and their attraction to one another. Even though he was growly at times, Brock was fabulous–down to earth, generous, protective and thoughtful. He always worked his schedule to be with her and put her first. I just wasn’t a fan of Piper’s game playing.
Brock was really great, and the whole book is Piper finding flaws in everything without wanting to communicate like an adult, which was insanely annoying (like okay you fight , but if you juste pout nothing will get fixed ffs) I stayed on board until the end to see who was sabotaging the hotels reputation.
The premise: Meet cute. Travel blogger/reviewer, comped a special suite by a friend who works at the hotel chain's corporate office. CEO of said hotel chain arrives late at night unexpectedly and some newbie gives him key to said suite. She wakes to sounds in her bathroom, catches him in the shower. He goes all out to make sure she doesn't leave a bad review for the mix-up. In the process he's bewitched, but his life is the hotel and they go their seperate ways. Back home, a need for a steady income has her excepting a job from her friend as an ad copy writer. She runs into the big boss at her orientation. Love finds a way amidst sabotage and company rules.
Great story, though it dragged in some spots for me. (Could be because I had so much going on, I was easily distracted ... getting ready for Thanksgiving). I loved the characters but there were times I thought the MMC acted out of character (particularly after the big sabotage). Maybe if the author had gone more in depth about his history, it might have explained his giving up and wanting to step down. Additionally, the MFC's ultimate action (after the sabotage) is not believable! She wants to help and has evidence. Why not go to him, his assistant, or even the cops first? Especially since she finally realized the antagonist might be more dangerous than she originally believed. Why risk putting herself in danger by confronting the guy?
Aside from that, I loved the story and the characters. She's sweet and qwerky; has scruples and morals and she's not afraid to stand up for herself. (Love her younger sister too.) He's a wealthy grump, running the family's swank hotel chain. He's all business with very little people skills. Kind of a tyrant at work.
After their meet cute, she teaches him how to enjoy life and brings sunshine to his dark. When she's back in his life, he wants more. But his avoidance of relationships and his lack of people skills has him handling a situation badly causing her to walk away. When he finally realizes he can't live without her, he grovels so nicely! If you like stories with really good groveling, this is it.
What really stole the show in this story ... The "Doxador" with asthma. Doxador? You ask. A huge sausage dog (mostly dachsund with some labrador mix) named Andouille. Yes, a sausage dog named after... a sausage!😂😂😂😂 Too Cute!
I received this ebook ARC, from the author, on the condition that I write an honest review. Nicole Snow has done it again. She’s written a beautiful heartfelt romance between a grumpy billionaire, and a hard working ray of sunshine. The characters of Brock and Piper were so meant for each other, and their meeting for the first time, was hilarious. Brock has taken over as CEO of his grandfather’s hotel, and is a very wealthy man. He returns from a business trip to stay at his hotel penthouse, in Hawaii, and accidentally surprises Piper there. There has been a computer error, and both are booked in the same room. Piper’s snarky attitude causes an attraction for Brock, and when he realizes that she is an influencer, he attempts to make her stay better, for a better review. The attraction gets stronger when Brock realizes that Piper is working at his company. A relationship begins to develop between Brock and Piper. He wants her to go on business trips with him, but Piper’s father is ill, and she hesitates. While on a trip, her father ends up in the hospital, and Brock gets involved in finding better care for Piper’s dad. Problems occur at the Winthrop hotels, and Brock cannot find the source of the problem. Meanwhile Brock and Piper have broken up, because of the threats to Piper. A food poisoning incident occurs at the hotel, and Piper does some investigating, to help solve the mystery. After the mystery is solved, the couple reunite, and admit their true feelings for each other. The couple finally reach their HEA, with the final chapters closing the romance beautifully. I will always recommend any book written by Nicole Snow, because she writes books that grab the reader’s attention from the very first sentence. There are always a strong male character with a hidden heart of gold, and a heroine that is feisty and strong. All the other characters are always well described in their supporting roles.
Piper and Brock are such a perfect couple once they work things out. Piper Renee is an influencer and has been offered a stay at the Winthrope Lanai in Hawaii in a super-luxurious room. Wakened from sleep by a strange noise, she finds a handsome, sexy guy showering in her bathroom! A computer glitch in the reservation process has put them both in the same room! Brock Winthrope is the new CEO of his grandfather’s hotel. Afraid this influencer will give the hotel “bad press” over this, he pretends to be the manager and puts effort into impressing her, trying to make up for the embarrassment. A date that supplies kissing under the stars does much to improve her experience. However, it seems that so many of the things going wrong with Brock’s properties make no sense. It almost seems like deliberate sabotage… but why?
When Piper could be in danger, Brock pushes her away for her safety. But Piper is not one to be pushed around. She is a strong character and she starts to investigate the latest problem facing Brock. Will the two of them get to the bottom of this persistent attack on Brock’s business that is damaging their ratings? Will they solve the mystery and find that they work well together and might want to be together in a more lasting way going forward?
This story was really good, with their banter and interactions keeping the reader laughing and wondering if they will ever “get along”. Grab your copy and see if they can resolve the mystery of what is going on before it becomes too late to save the hotels.
Steamy hilarious rom-com with intrigue Ms. Snow can pick the very best covers! Love this addition to the series of standalone billionaire stories. I was so in hopes that Brock Winthrope would get his own grumpalicious story. Like the others this will have you laughing out loud (“packing a howitzer”). Their meet-cute was very memorable and classic rom-com. Their notes back and forth are hilarious. There are so many delicious moments in this book. Piper Renee is a 24yo travel influencer and has been gifted a trip to the Winthrope Lanai in Hawaii with accomodations in the Presidential Suite no less. As she is sleeping off her jet lag, she hears noises. Soon she realizes there is a very well-built man showering in her unit! Yep, she meets 31yo Brock who pretends to be somebody else. He’s afraid of what negative comments Piper could say online so he plans on wining and dining her. They have a moment and then she goes back to Seattle. Coincidentally, Seattle is where Brock also lives and manages the many Winthrope Resorts. For reasons you’ll learn Piper takes a job for Winthrope and they meet again. There will be intrigue. Is somebody trying to put Winthrope Resorts out of business? If so, why? As always Ms. Snow’s secondary characters are great too as well as cameo appearances of former characters or mentions of places from previous books. That will not detract from this story at all. This is a must-read if you enjoy second chances, enemies to lovers and workplace romance with intrigue and LOTS of steam. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through Booksprout and it gets 5+ stars.
This book is fabulously funny, entertaining and steamy. The chemistry between Brock and Piper is hot enough to melt a glacier in seconds! Brock may be a rich CEO used to barking orders, but Piper has him running in circles, spouting platitudes and thinly veiled insults at first, then eventually heated and very naughty suggestions. Piper first names him Mr. Grumpmuffin, after getting the sharp edges of his tongue even though the the mixup with the Presidential Suite was clearly the fault of his staff. Though the memory of his smoking body fresh from the shower plays on repeat in her brain, his grumpy and nearly hostile attitude are enough to tamper her attraction and incite her irritation and snappiness.
All this happens within the first few chapters of this book, which left me eager to keep reading this book. It did not disappoint! The relationship between Piper and Brock includes a few twists and a wonderful twist toward intimate, steamy and wonderful. Feisty, spirited and authentic Piper brings the rich, grumpy mogul to his knees, figuratively and literally. Keep the fan and ice water handy! These two have become one of my favourite fictional couples!.

I'm kind of shocked at how much I enjoyed this book, mostly because I make it a rule to stay away from books where the mc is an influencer. I do this because those characters tend to come off as extremely shallow and privileged. I felt the complete opposite about this book. Piper is very realistic and has personal family issues that hit very close to home. She wasn't some two dimensional "I just want to look pretty online and get free stuff" type character. The banter between Piper and Brock was great. It had a nice mix of enemies to lovers, with forbidden work place romance. And there was a solid plot line that pushed the story instead of random anecdotes of two characters trying to find love. I've read one book by this author before and enjoyed it, so now I'm mad at myself for not reading more soon. (The only thing I didn't like was his name being Brock. Come on miss girl, we can do better. I even think Brick is more attractive.).

Can I just say - that man is just pure wow! Nicole Snow definitely has the knack for finding models to fit the characters, and this one is just Brock all over!
There is a mix-up in rooms for Brock and Pippa, she wakens in the middle of the night to a naked Adonis showering in her hotel room - definitely gave a few giggles! He can't have any more bad publicity for his hotels so decides to let her think he's a manager just trying to right his wrongs. Fast forward a few months and she falls into him once again only to discover he's not the manager....
A good read, some humour, a believable attraction, a cute asthmatic Weiner dog and good side characters - I'd really like Keenan and Maiseys stories, just saying 😏
*I voluntarily received an arc and this is my honest review 3/3.5stars
Brock Winthrope is a grrrreat book boyfriend. Holy smokes, he enters the book so darn steamy and doesn't let up until the end. His attraction to Piper is palpable, and the way he fights it---steamy! Shoo! ♨️♨️♨️🌶️🌶️🌶️ Piper is the epitome of a sunshiney heroine, but one who cusses! And she does not hold back on telling Brock precisely what she thinks. They were so perfect together. Piper brought light and feather-like joy to Brock's life. Yeah, there's a good story here with a bit of intrigue, but the main thing is Brock and Piper, and they are steamy-fun from page 1. You cannot go wrong with the latest from Nicole Snow.
What I liked most about ONE BOSSY DATE was a fresh plot with some surprises and intrigue mixed up with the romance.
Brock and Piper really burn up the pages. I was getting worried about Brock because there was a point where every thought he had involved extreme canoodling. The job had to suffer.
The two had chemistry that was inconsistent and that’s what keeps the reader on their toes. There was the grumpy boss and the kind, caring man; the bubbly over the top employee and the no-nonsense woman.
The story is steamy, humorous and one of those “he has to work for it” romances.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Brock and Piper story is hot and adventurous! Loved the slow burn too. He’s the CEO to the Winthrope’s Motels. Piper is a big traveler till her dad starts having health problems. There’s way more to it but you GOTTA read it to find out! So freaking good!!!.

This is such a fantastic and well written enemies to lovers story . It’s very relevant and relatable with an influencer who goes to Hawaii and met a hotel manager. The story was entertaining and quite enjoyable with witty banter and fresh story. I loved Piper and Brock. I have read few stories by the author and have so far each and every one of them. Definitely worth a read.
Nicole Snow rocks growly alpha male heroes. Brock is a character who is big strong and snarly. He is a billionaire hotel owner with the body of a calendar model. Piper is trying to make ends meet to support her dad and younger sister. The plot of the story is magnificent. The first meeting between Brock and Piper set the tone for an entertaining and fun story. The characters are wonderful and interesting. They are bold and sexy. Brock and Piper rock both in and out of the bedroom as they secure their relationship and future.
Arc review for honest review piper Renee is at the Winthrop lanni to write a review on her social media when she finds herself in a difficult situation with CEO brock Winthrop over and over .This only gets more interesting as this book goes .these two characters are funny, lots of chemistry, and challenging. Fantastic story.
OMG this book! This high intensity, big laughs romance was really just what I needed. I loved the drama, tension, humor, sparks, emotions, witty banter and sultry simmer that fuels this fun read. Pair all that with super likable characters that share an attraction and chemistry that will not be denied, and you have yourself a book that is sure to brighten your day and have you swooning. I am posting an unbiased, unsolicited review.
This book has one of the best opening scenes I’ve ever read. What a great way to start out Brock and Piper’s story. Nicole Snow does an amazing job with her characters. Brock and Piper have so much depth to them and you can see them evolve through the book. Their relationship is such a give and take and they each learn lessons along the way.

ABOUT THIS BOOK:
This is book three in the Bossy Seattle Suits series about bossy billionaires and the quirky women they fall for. This series follows the Chicago-based Bad Chicago Bosses series. Though this Seattle series is somewhat similar, it does have a slightly different feel.
So far, the Bossy Seattle Suits series includes: 1. One Bossy Proposal (Lincoln Burns & Dakota Poe’s story) 2. One Bossy Dare (Cole Lancaster & Eliza Angelo’s story) 3. One Bossy Date (Brock Winthrope & Piper Renee’s story)
Fans will be thrilled as they come across a plethora of crossover references to other books by the author.
From book one, Lincoln’s Haughty But Nice is featured in the story. Lincoln’s friend Wyatt is mentioned as well, along with his girlfriend Meadow. Wyatt spent a year or two in Heart’s Edge in his youth.
Wired Cup from book two – which is Cole Lancaster’s company – gets lots of mentions. It is no surprise since Brock Winthrope, the hero here, was introduced there and played a supporting role in Cole’s story. The two do business together.
Sweeter Grind, a Wired Cup competitor out of Heart’s Edge, gets some mention as well. It comes from book three, No Broken Beast, a must-read book in the Heroes of Heart’s Edge series.
Also from Heart’s Edge is Piper’s father, Harold Renee.
This story revisits Chicago and the Bad Chicago Bosses series, where Ward and Nick Brandt’s stories are told in books two and three. Winthrope Chicago, a Winthrope location that opened a couple years ago, was designed by the Brandts. Ross Winthrope, Brock’s grandfather, hired the Brandts to design his new hotel shortly before his retirement. Ross played a minor role in that series and he returns here. FROM ONE BOSSY PROPOSAL, BOOK 1:
This story opens in the spring in Seattle.
Dakota Poe, twenty-four, has a lot of attitude. The jaded blonde beauty has a super sweet side, but she also has a strong feisty streak that won’t be tamed. That might be especially true in the last year. She recently moved to Seattle and hopes to make it her forever home. She comes from Dallas, North Dakota. Many of Dallas’s younger folks eventually move away to bigger cities, but until last spring, Dakota had hoped to stay. Jay Foyt broke her heart and forever crushed her dreams of a happily ever after when he failed to show up on their wedding day. Being abandoned and humiliated is hard to live down in a small town. She no longer believes in love, so she is working on her career. She pounced on the opportunity when presented with a job offer in Seattle, but the pay leaves something to be desired and the work is not rewarding. She is therefore looking for something better. Dakota loves writing, and like her distant relative, she gravitates toward poetry. Being related to Edgar Allen Poe has long led to jokes, but she shares in the dark vibe of her ancestor. She won the Young National Poet’s award while in high school, and she hopes to eventually find more time to pursue her poetry.
Lincoln Burns, thirty-two, is the bossy billionaire CEO of Haughty But Nice, an upscale fashion empire. Their focus is quality, and they tend to steer away from over-the-top designs. It is a family company, and he took over the helm when his mother retired shortly after his father’s death. Lincoln worked his way through his grief and has not stopped since. He has brought modern business ideas to the job, and it has paid off in spades. His newest project is the launch of a wedding line. If they can pull it off, it stands to become a lucrative addition to their offerings. But the endeavor isn’t cheap, so there is also great risk. The marketing will be critical to their success. Besides grieving his father’s death, Lincoln’s workaholic tendencies have a few more motivations. His best friend, Wyatt Emory, has had a rough time since they left the Marines. Lincoln took note of the power of love to ruin a man. His own experience with love blew up, too, when plans to spend his life with Regina Swann ended in disaster. Even his parents’ perfect marriage had a lesson for him. Lincoln has decided that work, not love, is a more worthwhile use of time, and with Haughty But Nice, he has found purpose. He only does one-nighters, but even those haven’t interested him in quite some time.
When Lincoln makes his usual stop at Sweeter Grind for their famous Regis roll, he panics when he learns that they have sold out. The last roll went to the woman in front of him in line, so it should be an easy fix. When the little firecracker refuses his attempts to sway her into giving up the treat, he finally walks away in disgust. When she shows up a few days later for an interview for the copywriting position to help launch the new wedding line, he hopes to quickly dismiss her, but she seems to impress the rest of his team. Before he knows it, he is offering to pay her top dollar to accept the job. As Lincoln and Dakota embark on a combative work relationship, their chemistry is probably obvious to everyone except themselves. Their walls slowly begin to crumble, but there are rules against an office relationship. The couple eventually earns a very happy ending. FROM ONE BOSSY DARE, BOOK 2:
This story opens during the summer in Seattle. Lincoln and Dakota have already welcomed baby girl Evermore into the world.
Eliza Angelo, twenty-six, lives and breathes coffee. She believes that a good cup of coffee can make a difference in a person’s day. Eliza bores easily, but she can lose herself in devising the perfect cup of java. For her, brewing coffee is an art. She has been perfecting her methods and writing down her recipes for years. It is her dream to open her own coffee shop one day, naming it Liza’s Love. Her job as a virtual assistant helps her pay the bills in the meantime and gives her the flexibility she needs to make her coffee experiments her priority. Without some serious savings, though, her dreams only get farther away. Money has never really motivated Eliza, but then again, without it she cannot fulfill her dream. She has decided that she does not need romantic complications in her life, devoting herself instead to her love of coffee.
Cole Lancaster Jr., thirty-seven, is the billionaire CEO of Wired Cup Inc., a well-established regional chain of coffee shops headquartered in Seattle and known for its reliable brew. The Lancasters are coffee royalty. Cole is the fourth generation to run his family-owned business, and he hopes to pass it on to his daughter one day. Destiny may be a handful at fifteen, but she is a great kid and he knows how lucky he is. She will leave for college in a few years, and he will hardly know what to do with himself. His late wife Aster died ten years ago, making Cole a single father. The police in Hawaii told him it was an accident, but it never made sense in Cole’s mind. He has avoided returning to the family farm he inherited there ever since. Some have suggested that he needs to accept what happened and move on, but moving on doesn’t sit right with him even though he and Aster had an arranged marriage. It was a good business partnership for their parents. Despite challenges, Cole was determined to make the marriage work. Aster’s death changed him. He closed himself off from the world. He has lived like a monk for the past decade, afraid to make himself vulnerable again and determined not to allow another woman into his life for Destiny’s sake. He knows how complicated relationships can be and won’t put her through that again. Troy wants to see his friend find happiness once again, but Cole is steadfast in his position on dating.
When Eliza shows up one morning at the Seventh Street Wired Cup location for a cup of coffee and to chat with her favorite barista, Wayne, she is appalled by the way his manager speaks to him, and when she has finally heard enough, she gives that manager a piece of her mind. Cole is taken by surprise when he finds a customer inserting herself and her unsolicited opinions into his meeting, and he soon finds himself steaming mad. But when Cole discovers Eliza’s talent with coffee, he knows she has what it takes to bring excitement to their brand again and keep his family legacy strong. Cole and Eliza dance around their attraction to one another as they work to develop Wired Cup’s new menu. They are hot and cold, but eventually, their shared love of coffee and their attraction to one another lead to passion. The couple has a mountain of obstacles to overcome, however, and the past plagues them both as they try to move on. They are both stubborn and rather set in their ways, but they eventually find a happy ending. IN THIS BOOK:
The story opens during early summer in Seattle.
Piper Renee, twenty-four, is a bird geek. She might be mature for her age, but birds never fail to bring out the kid in her. She always maintains a positive outlook despite the responsibility she shoulders. Her mother walked out ten years ago, leaving Piper to step up as a substitute mother figure for her sister Maisy, who was just seven at the time, as well as look out for her ailing father. She probably gets her pride from him. Harold Renee worked hard as a fisherman to provide for his family until his health took a turn. He doesn’t know that his VA insurance doesn’t quite cover everything, and Piper wants to keep it that way. She also wants to ensure that Maisy doesn’t miss out on her youth the same way Piper did, which means that Piper can’t be away from home for long since someone needs to look after their father. Rather than take a 9 to 5 job and be tied down every day, she has used her resourcefulness to make her own way in the world. She earned a bachelor’s degree in media relations and put her knowledge to work. She combines her brains and beauty, building channels and marketing her content. As a social media influencer, she gets paid to do what she loves – travel. She hopes to travel the world, but since getting away is complicated, much of her travels are limited to B&Bs and cabins in the Pacific Northwest.
Brock Winthrope, thirty-one, could be living a life of leisure, but it isn’t his style. The billionaire with model good looks took over as CEO of Winthrope International two years ago. His grandfather took the company to great heights, and Brock has big shoes to fill. Ross Winthrope is a legend in the resort industry, known for his successful line of luxury resorts across the world, and Brock has no intention of letting him down. He is close with his grandparents – closer to them than even his own parents. He inherited his workaholic tendencies from his grandfather, who still dabbles in the company business from time to time. Women haven’t interested Brock since high school – not for more than a one-off – since his entire focus is on work. Employees consider him moody and his sometimes explosive reputation instills fear in those that value their job. Keenan Dutton, his executive assistant, is perhaps the only one that isn’t intimidated by his powerful presence. Keenan can get away with giving Brock a hard time, but only because he performs his job flawlessly otherwise.
At Winthrope, nothing but the finest is expected. The food in their restaurants, for example, is locally sourced. Since stepping into the CEO shoes, Brock even collaborated with Cole Lancaster of Seattle’s Wired Cup to bring resort customers an award-worthy custom cup of Kona coffee. Winthrope Lanai is a big test of Brock’s success, and he has spared no detail at the resort. Despite his efforts, though, something has been amiss in recent months. Several Winthrope properties have been review bombed, and the high ratings that they take pride in are dropping fast. Their inner data suggests customers remain happy, so it just doesn’t add up. Brock feels someone has an axe to grind, but others suggest he is just sensitive and perhaps a little paranoid.
When Piper’s best friend Jenn, who works in marketing at Winthrope’s Seattle headquarters, hooks her up with a weekend stay at Winthrope Lanai’s penthouse suite in exchange for a review, she is thrilled for the opportunity. But her brief stay gets off to a rough start when she finds a strange man in her room. When Brock checks into the penthouse, he never imagines that the woman who walks in on him will turn out to be a social media influencer. Confounded as to how the mix-up occurred and desperate to salvage the upcoming review, he sets his mind to fixing things for her. Unfortunately, the beautiful influencer doesn’t seem interested in apologies. They spar verbally, but their chemistry eventually becomes obvious. Brock isn’t about to compromise himself further, so he holds back. Two months pass and he still cannot get Piper off his mind when the pair unexpectedly comes face to face again. Despite the risk to both their careers, they let temptation overpower them. But the problems at Winthrope are just getting started, and the couple gets caught up in a whirlwind of trouble. They eventually earn a lovely happy ending.

Wow! Brock and Piper’s enemies-to-lovers romance reflects real-life issues in the age of the internet. Piper is a medium-grade influencer and internet star, and Brock’s company is subject to the online reviews that can easily go sideways without good reason. Both are subject to the whims of a fickle and temperamental audience. Piper has learned the ins and outs of online reviews, so she becomes a valuable resource as Brock tries to investigate the reviews that are tearing apart decades of hard work almost overnight. This story is about the power of the internet to make and break people and companies, and the vulnerability that is created by the online world. It highlights the unregulated dangers that businesses face and the difficult task of taking back their reputation after a hit. It is a bit like the wild west.
There are a few issues that merit mention. First, Brock and Piper work together to uncover the truth, but danger follows, testing their young relationship. Brock is surprisingly dense when it comes to fixing his mistakes, even though he admits to having no relationship experience. It gets a little old, and he seems to dismiss outright some great advice more than once. Piper seems to have her act together for the most part, so when she falls apart and it drags on endlessly, it doesn’t quite feel authentic. Their longish separation feels inauthentic, but they eventually get back on the same page. Next, there are a few timeline issues. Most are minor, but at one point two weeks pass which feel an awful lot like three weeks, so I presume that is a simple error. Further, about three weeks after starting, Piper seems to drop off going to work and there is no explanation. There are times that she should know things from having spoken to Jenn, but apparently, she suddenly goes weeks without speaking to her best friend. It gets a little confusing. Brock, too, could easily get the simplest of information from Jenn but doesn’t. I lose respect for them both during those three weeks. Note that I did read the ARC version, so it is entirely possible that some of these details were tightened up before publication.
Brock and Piper’s steamy Seattle romance is a great addition to the Bossy Seattle Suits series. Both are serious-minded, but while Brock is cranky, Piper is a breath of fresh air. Not unlike other young influencers, she believes in the law of attraction. Brock doesn’t see the merit in that, but he does believe that things happen for a reason. He believes he ran into Piper for a reason, but he has a hard time coming to terms with what that means. Their story is nicely written. It is plot-driven and somewhat complex as it takes a dive into the ugly underbelly of internet reviews. The characters are nicely developed and feel real. The story is written in first person. The POV alternates between Brock and Piper. I rate this book 4.5 stars.

The author has given us a wonderful enemies-to-lovers story that pulls us into the lives of Piper and Brock and does not let go. The story keeps us turning the pages with humor, connection, denial and steam.
