The eye disease known as macular degeneration affects millions of people. But it doesn't have to go unchecked. Doctors Marc and Michael Rose show how you can prevent, halt and even reverse the progress of macular degeneration and other eye problems.
Previously, I had done a review on a similar book: Healthy Vision by Neal Adams. Everything I said in that book applies to this one, too. Both make numerous recommendations for specific nutrients that help the eyes (including the foods that are rich in them). Both recommend exercise for improving circulation, including in the eyes.
But this book had some additional information: I was amazed that one of the chapters delved off into digestion, of all things; how poor digestion can lead to poor eye health, too. I've got drusen, chronic dry eyes and early stages of cataracts... I also have GERD. Coincidence? Probably not. I really appreciated that chapter on digestion. With GERD, the understanding is that the stomach makes too much acid. But this book actually challenged that idea, that during our 40's/50's, stomach acid production actually begins to drop off, which leads to malabsorption; that it can be helpful to supplement with acidic foods to improve digestion (such as apple cider vinegar). So I am exploring this idea and testing it out.
This book also mentions a spiritual component in healing the eyes, too.
All in all, I'm glad I own both books. They both explained things so well and provided constructive things to try (when my optometrist was basically useless in this area). I'd recommend them both to anyone who has eye problems, though this one might offer a little more.
Great book about eye health- and so much more. I learned so much about supplements, general health, and that you really can't compartmentalize eyes from stomach from circulation. Such a keeper for the references to supplementary treatments for a variety of ailments that afflict eye health. Diabetic? HBP? Stress? Poor nutrition? Poor digestion? Read this book! And then your eyes will be healthier, as well. Great book. Will be referencing the individual chapters from time to time in the future. These doctors feel like they actually want to help people take charge of their personal healthcare.
