Apple -- some say this forbidden fruit started men and women down the path of sinful pleasure... One Night of Passion … Just because small-town librarian and single mom Jenifer Wright does not need a man doesn't mean she doesn't want one. She'd love to meet the right guy who'd be willing to explore the naughty and the unknown with her -- sensible, capable, practical Jenifer Janey Wright -- and not insist on putting a ring on her finger. One look at sexy, mysterious Eric Hamilton and she can read right off the bat that he's the love 'em and leave 'em type, the perfect partner for exploring her sensual fantasies from A to Z! … Or a Lifetime of Love? Undercover agent Eric Hamilton is in Doolittle, Arkansas, only long enough to break up a funny-money ring. He's certain this sexy librarian is involved in some way. It's hard to stay all-business when it's his job to get as close as it takes to his suspects, especially when Jenifer makes him an offer no hot-blooded man could resist. Can Eric only play at love or has this surprisingly tender and vulnerable woman captured not only his imagination -- but also his heart?
Hailey North is a USA Today bestselling author who began writing while employed as a “game show lawyer” for NBC Studios. Tired of hearing lawyers weren’t creative, she quit her job and typed “Chapter One” (not the chapter, just the heading!). Since that day, North has penned eleven romantic comedies, set in her adopted hometown of New Orleans, Louisiana, in her favorite imaginary town, Doolittle, Arkansas, and in her very own version of Purgatory. Her three-book “afterlife” series (The Diva, The Billionaire and The Hero) celebrates creative, but accidentally dead, characters trying their darnedest to win a second chance at life. North lives in Louisiana with her husband, her food-centric Labrador Shelby, and her three kindred spirit felines, Ali Kat, Rosa Pax, and Max the Cat Who Thinks He's a Dog. What can I say? I read it because I like Nancy Morgan and wanted to let her know I read her books. Mindless entertainment, but who says you can't enjoy mindless?
Undercover is a nice romance. But that's it, just nice. Some parts of the story are really funny, but others are plain boring. There are too many characters, too many things happening at the same time, and at some point I lost track of what was supposed to be the main plot. It didn't help that I couldn't connect with either Jenifer or Eric, I couldn't even form a clear image of them in my mind. So, if you're looking for a simple, no-strings-attached romance novel to occupy a couple of hours, this book is not so bad. Otherwise, there are other amazing options out there.
I think the only reason that I continued to read this novel is because the main character, Jenifer Janey Wright, is a librarian and I enjoy discovering different novels where the main character is a librarian. In this case, Jenifer is a librarian at Doolittle Public Library in Doolittle, Arkansas. Very light reading. I doubt that I will select other books in this series or by this author to read.
First book I read by this author. There is an earlier book about other characters from the same small town. A couple of other books by this author are a little more involved but this one is a light read.
I haven’t read a romance novel for awhile. I suppose it was just like every other average romance, but was a bit disappointed in its lack of complexity, although it probably won't stop me from trying another.
