Legend has it that in the creepy woods near Camp Lakeview, a madman lies in wait for unwary campers. Every six years, when the fog rises from Shadow Lake, he emerges from his broken-down shack to seek revenge for the arm he lost while trying to end a camper's life. This is year number six.
OMG i love this book.... i read it at my camp which is in the middle of nowhere and i was in the only haunted cabin it freaked me out so much...................I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!
This book was so amazing I'd definately have to say that this is one of the best books I've read...There is so much actiona nd it keeps you on your toe...One time I got so scared by the book I wasnt able to sleep
I'm giving this four stars with the fact that this is middle grade in mind. (Also that I haven't read the first thirteen in this series.)
So I thought this was a really good book that reminded me of a mixture of Flash Forward and Are You Afraid Of The Dark? (ah, the good old days!) It was a fun, wholesome story that doesn't have all the violence / gore / cussing / sex of books these days (even YA gets risky!) and while I don't necessarily have a problem with these things, it's refreshing and fun to have a story without them.
The things I liked: The ever changing Cropsy story. Like a game of Operator, this legend changes throughout the book, making it realistic, because that's really how urban legends start. Thr fact that not everything was explained. The author left one piece of.the puzzle unanswered which gave the whole book just a little bit of lingering spook when it was all said and done and I enjoy that aspect of a book. I also liked that we got to see things from the inside and the outside of a bully. How sometimes things just snowball or get carried away or are even caused by our own actions and misinterpretations. It really paints everyone as a person, not just a stereotype. I also liked that there was diversity. Not every camper was some carbon copy of the girl next to her and I liked that.
What I didn't like. The fact that they were all rich girls. It's a trend these days, the poor little rich girl / guy thing and I can only buy so much of it before I've simply had enough. And I definitely have. I want down to earth regular kids, darn it! I liked that since they were at camp it was slightly less noticeable, but it was still there and there was no hiding it. The rapidly switching third person POV. I appreciated being able to see a wide perspective on things, on how people thought and reacted to things, but it was too much. I would have done better with a couple of specific characters telling the story and leaving it at that. Also, I was sort of on the fence with the boyfriend stuff. It was pretty mild in this so I wasn't too worried about it, but it felt pretty unnecessary, though maybe in the context of the rest of the series it makes sense.
Overall, I liked it and would recommend it, though be aware that this is most definitely geared towards a younger, middle grade audience.
This book is about a group of girls who go on a camping trip in the woods, on a dark night,, the perfect night for some scaring. Is Cropsy back form the dead to scare the girls all the way back to camp, or is it just a bunch of boys playing a joke?
1) My friend showed it to me at a book fair. 3) I think that the author has a skilled idea of how to get the reader anticipating every page, and what's going to happen next. 5)Anybody that enjoys a good story that will scare you very much, or anyone that enjoys the other Hide and Shriek books. 6)This book reminds me of the books by Mary Downing Hahn, because they have a similar way of gaining suspense, without boring the reader. 7)This book is about a a group of girls who go camping in the forest, on a cold and rainy night, and encounter some unexpected visitors, that may not let them go alive.
The camp confidential series are all so good, I read already ten of her series. But her hide and shriek book just make me shriek!! Don't ever read this book before bed because I don't think u will be able to sleep. But other than that u should really read all of her books
(LL) This book was pretty decent for the series, except there is no way two teenagers would have been put in charge of ten girls overnight in the woods. I almost gave it two stars for that, but the rest of it was decent enough that I didn’t think two stars was fair. The suspense was well done and the tension between narratives was pretty good also. Solid horror/suspense story for kids to read without being too much.
Found this old gem!!! I was never a huge fan of the summer secrets series but I remember loving this book because it was the first horror novel I ever read. And surprisingly, it holds up. Obviously it’s not as scary as I remember it being but it sure does know how to hold tension. I also think it’s an achievement to make an actual horror novel from a children’s drama series— major props for that.
I read and loved Camp Confidential Hide and Shriek by Melissa J. Morgan. It's is about a group of teenage girls who go away to camp every summer, and this summer the counselors think they need to bond. The girls have to spend a couple nights out in the deep, dark woods instead of their warm, comfortable cabins. Tori tells a super creepy campfire story about a madman murderer named Cropsy who lives in the exact woods their camping in! Every six years a lot of people mysteriously vanish. This year is number six. That night Chelsea vanishes, and the camp counselor Belle goes to look for her. After neither Belle nor Chelsea come back, Clarissa, the only other camp counselor, takes Natalie and Jenna with her to go look for the other girls. Brynn, Priya Alex, Alyssa, Candace, Tori, Gaby, and Valerie are waiting ALONE at the campsite. A thick fog rises from the lake, and the girls can't even see their own feet, just like in the creepy campfire story! Finally, Tori, Gaby, and Valerie leave and go see what's going on. Brynn, Priya, Alex, and Alyssa see a one armed man with a chainsaw in the woods and are so scared they jump into a boat with a hole in it. Little do they know they are also being pulled by the strong current into Dead Man's Falls. And it's named that for a reason. Will these girls survive the night or will they mysteriously disappear, just like everyone else? You'll have to read it to find out.
Every page of this book is filled with suspense and it will keep you guessing to the end. I recommend it to daring young girls who love to get scared, and it's probably not a good book for people that get scared easily.
Genre: Fiction Lexile Score: 630L Mystery, Nature, Friendship Book Review: This book overall earns a four for my rating. This novel has lots of suspense. By the author including his in the story, the readers are left at the edge of their seats wondering what will happen next.
Summary: A group of girls are on an overnight trip; while there, they decide to share .horror stories around the campfire. One story which comes up is about Cropsy, a weird old man who lives outside the campgrounds known for torturing the Lakeview campers who come anywhere near his home. When one girl leaves the group for a bathroom break, everything goes wrong; she doesn't return after 45 minutes. No sooner do the remaining girls go after their lost friend when they realize they have lost their way. Will the girls find their friend , or will they face Cropsy?
As I expected, not really that freaky except for at the end. I was even able to read it in the dead of night. There's a lot of drama going on between the girls, and it isn't made any better at first when they are forced to go on an overnight ccamping trip together, because pretty soon, Chelsea runs away. The original plan is to stay together, but (not surprisingly, or else there would be no story) everybody splits up and soon everybody is in their own scary dilemma.
This is the scariest book I have ever read. I am not dissing it it is a great book but very very scary. There are a group of girls who get lost in the woods and then get seperated an then every thing that is scary and could go wrong does. If you want to read it make sure you do it in brod day light or so help me you will have night mares for weeks.
This is a very excellent book that shows teamwork and bravery. Bunk 5A girls go camping and find out that they need to work together to save there bunk mates. They hear this tragic story about a man named cropsy and he is after them. He is a one armed maniace killer that every 6 years he comes out and kills. If you like horror then this is a book for you!
This book was pretty good! It actually scared me and I liked how there were like 4 different events going on at the same time. I absolutely love this series, though they are a little young! I plan to read all of them!!!so good! Thy make me happy.
Ahhhhhh!!!!! It was sooooo intense. I kind of got soooo scared that i didnt want to read it at night. im not trying to scare you or anything. I think anyone who likes action, murderers and Lights. it is ok at the very end.
This book is about a group of girls who think there is a guy named cropsy. They think he chops peoples heads of. None of that is true though, he is just a guy whose dream didn't quite come true.
