erm....least fave overall. Same old, same old.
Misao is attacked a billion times, she is saved, Kyo is still addicted to her (and is still really, really, possessive). Misao is confused if she wants to marry him or not...bleh. She still can't fight for herself and needs to be saved every time, and she completely relies on Kyo to do everything for her. It's cute to an extent. After awhile it gets boring and predictable. The only reason I gave it 3 stars was because of the humour of the other characters. Don't get me wrong, I actually do like this manga. I do enjoy Misao's and Kyo's romance when he isn't being possessive and controlling, and when she isn't second-guessing herself (like...every sentence. Come on Misao!

The story in this volume was pretty much what happened in the last one but with different characters, there was some stuff to further the overall plot tho which I’m excited af for!

I’m still giving it 4* bc I love the art and the overall story and that makes up for the repetitiveness of this volume

Black Bird is a weird series for me. I read it back in high school and was OBSESSED with it. Throughout the pandemic I worked on cleaning my house and found my entire collection collecting dust. So, why not read through it again? It's a manga, gives me something to do and would be great to jump back into the past. But I don't enjoy it now? It's so weird. So, so weird.

My negatives:
1. This book includes more potential rape for Misao. The rape theme seems to be super consistent throughout the book.
2. Drugs too, maybe? Like, can't Misao catch ab real?
3. Storyline didn't move too much, but at least I got to see some different characters.
4. This book feels less like a romance and more of a very possessive, Fifty Shades of Grey-esque supernatural attempting to be erotica sort of book. It's kind of weird.

What I like:
1. The artwork is cool.
2. Different supernatural creatures.

Overall, I am going to finish this series out because I have most of the books (I paid full price back in high school for it so I'm getting my money's worth) but I just am not digging it. There's definitely a market for this book but it's not for me.

Two out of five stars.

[book-info]

Dear Readers,

I am back once more with a review of volume three of Black Bird, one of my all-time favorite manga series these days. I’m excited to note the third volume has some wicked hot scenes that the first two volumes didn’t hold. Of course, it could definitely be hotter, but beggars can’t be choosers. Heh. Also, this may be “older teen” manga, but it’s still teen so they have to be a little more *ahem* subtle with the drawings. ::sad face::

"I want to make her give up everything . . . and fill her up with me."

Fortunately, this book held the same perverted silly humor that the first two boasted, so it makes sense that I enjoyed myself just as much. The only reason I lowered the rating is because of the disappointing cliffhanger that I detested, I was pretty satisfied by this edition.

“This is a world of kill or be killed.”

Black Bird Volume III begins with the Tengu Clan Leader’s (Kyo) command for the daitengu to search for the Senka roku, a true story of the only known successful marriage of a Senka bride of demon prophecy. This marriage was to a clan leader of the Kitsune clan, the Tengu Clan’s bitter enemy. They soon realize they won’t be able to gain the permission needed from the Kitsune Clan, especially since Kyo doesn’t believe the future Kitsune Clan Leader is really as willing to give up his mischievous plans to make Misao his bride, willingly or not.

This uneasy revelation causes Kyo to enroll Hoki (the youngest of the eight bodyguards) into school with Misao as added protection, since he can't always be by her side while teaching. While in books one and two, Kyo appears to have hidden reasons for wanting to marry Misao, in volume three it is rather obvious that he cares for her a great deal – even loves her – by his overprotective ways. He also creates a charm for Misao out of his primary feathers that shows the demon world how much he cares for her - and wards off lesser demons – and show’s Misao how much he is willing to sacrifice to keep her safe. Tengu demons can only clip so many primary feathers or they risk being unable to fly.

With this he proves his love and affection, and for the first time in her life, she is able to hang out with her friends outside of school without fear of klutzy run-ins with pesky demons.DSCN0118

I enjoyed how noticeably this book shows the growth in Kyo’s relationship with Misao. Kyo is gentler with her and affectionate, but he doesn't hesitate to call Misao out on her BS when necessary.

Misao has quit denying her love for Kyo, and has grown into her new role (as the Tengu Clan Leader’s future bride) with added grace, even while plagued with the worry that she will never see her family and friends once she and Kyo marry. Instead of resigning herself to becoming Kyo’s biggest weakness, she strives to show him how strong she can be, even when scared witless.

It’s definitely true that I’m enjoying this series, but sheesh I wish authors would stop with the horrid cliffhangers. I know many readers like them, but I am impatient and curious by nature. IT’S TORTURE I TELL YOU. TORTURE.

Impatient and itching for more,

Sexual Harassment abounds right off in the beginning of this volume; Boo! Minus 1 star for the entire series. About twenty pages the real story starts. The Immortal Fruit Record is an interesting theory, but I can not stand the dancing around that the characters have to go through. The first antagonist to this manga has been quiet, but makes a reappearance. Hmm I see where this is going.
Holy moley spicy guacamole wasn't expecting that! What happens is just clearly effed up.
I just can't go into this one because I'm just clearly too pissed off about it!

Interesting. , and I didn't feel much about it either way. Misao continues to be damseled and rescued every chapter or two, ho-hum, so I'm not sure why this manga is as compelling as it is. Maybe part of it is because we see Misao's internal conflicts about the price she might have to pay if she rolls along with Kyo's plans for her/them. It gives her more depth than just being the demon realm's helpless and/or horny victim.

Wish I could better remember the first two, but I'm afraid they're a bit blurry. This one didn't make me uncomfortable the way one of the others did. I'm not sure I'm in love with any of the characters, but I'm interested in the series and the world.

Already 10 volumes in Japan.

Extra brutal volume this time. I like it when there is violence in something like this. It sets it apart from other shoujo.

Misao has a “does he actually love me” inner dilemma throughout this one, which does make some sense considering how Kyo can be at times.

Honestly, I’m not against making the big bad demon lord of the manga complex and not wholly good with his actions. Kanoko Sakurakoji should come back and write one of the popular Yakuza/Mafia stories that are everywhere now, she could nail a character like that. Kyo’s whole “watch me protect you moment” screams that 🥲

Still this one wasn’t my favorite in the series. For one, Kyo killing Kuzunoha but letting Kiyo live didn’t make any sense to me. I read the reasoning, Kuzunoha actually hurting Misao but it’s pretty obvious Kiyo was the ring leader and one who actually wants to hurt Misao.

This was another good and fun read! I really like how protective Kyo is of Misao and she is finally realizing that he does truly care for her. He sacrifices one of his feathers to make her an amulet to protect her when he isn't around in this one. This amulet will keep the demons away when he cannot be near her to watch over her.

There are a lot of strong sexual themes in this manga and I would never recommend this for younger readers or parents looking for ones that are okay for their teens to read.

However, with that aside, I like the characters and the idea that these characters are fated to be together...but what will happen to Misao if they do actually get married? What is her true destiny? Even Kyo doesn't know and that bothers him since it is apparent he does truly love her.

During the weeks I read this during college, I have felt like pure crap.

First of all, I was sick the last two and a half weeks of February and the very last week of February I took 3 exams while I was sick. The last exam was tedious because it took me over 7 hours to complete that exam. I went in at 10:30 am on the 27th of Friday to take it and I didn't get finished until 6 pm at night. And no, I didn't get a lunch break.

So imagine this. I spent the past week taking 2 other exams and on Friday I'm taking this chemistry exam and the whole time I have at least 3 boxes of tissue and a trash can next to me because I'm sneezing and blowing my nose majority of the time. It wasn't just me. The fastest test takers in the class took at least over 3 hours minimum to finish it. So I'm freaking out because when I'm sick, I take super long because I have a hard time focusing and I need to reread the question at least 5 times before I actually remember what it's asking. Throughout the test, I pretty much feel like this.

Second, once I'm finished I head home and I'm ready to stuff my face with food, since I'm STARVING, and pass out on my bed. But, as luck would have it, my mother, a Star Trek fan, informs me of the dreaded news that one of my favorite actors Leonard Nimoy passed away that morning. So I drop my backpack on the floor and I'm an emotional wreck. First, I'm in denial. So to confirm it, I look it up and then I'm mortified by the truth.

FYI, I cried myself to sleep that night.

To make it worse, my mother and I were having a Star Trek marathon and I was sobbing the whole time. Harsh realization hit me when I realized that a legend has died and no one cares except for the devoted fans. Everyone else at the time was too busy arguing over what color a fucking stupid dress was!

Seriously? That was stupid trending thing that I've ever seen. IT. WAS. EVERYWHERE. It pissed me off that people not only bugged me about it but also constantly told me to 'get over' Leonard Nimoy's death.

Excuse me? The hell did you just say?

NO! I WON'T!!! The character he played was a big part of my life and the actor was too! He lived by his words and he inspired me to get into science for a career. So NO! I WON'T GET OVER IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know what? Tell me that and go fuck yourself.

So how does this story tie in to this reviews. Well, that's pretty much my feelings towards this manga. Volumes 2 & 3 in particular. The journey during most of the series was such a drag that it felt like a sick me taking a 9 hour exam. Then once you are done through the painful parts the manga slaps you with humor that is both disgusting and insulting.

There are some scenes that angered me so much that I wanted to yell and throw a fit because it was telling me that I should not raise my voice and 'get over' what I'm feeling. It was a slap to my face.

Some things that are very offensive are passed as a joke. For example, there is this one scene in the manga that has Kyo's subjects looking at his 'scrapbooks' and are very amused by it. Curious, Misao wants to know what they are looking at so she takes a glance at it. Turns out that they're pictures of her getting undressed and getting out of the shower in a towel. So Kyo basically had a porn scrapbook of her.

Can't you see how romantic this is?

Ugh, I'm going to throw up.

Guys, you can get in serious trouble for that shit. Misao, horrified, takes the books away and tries to hide them and the whole scene is meant to be comic relief.

People, that is NOT funny. That is insulting, disgusting, and terrifying. I'm just angry that this is considered as 'romantic'. IT ISN'T!

I'm done. I'm not finishing the series. Nor am I going to review the rest of the volumes I read. I can't. It's just too painful. And if I do I'll end up breaking things and creating chaos.

I'm so fucking done with this series.

Ooooo I am liking this series because it is getting dark. This installment had a pretty graphic killing, some intense emotions, and a couple of racy scenes. Not at all what I was expecting when I picked up this cute little shojo manga.

Kyo and Misao have admitted their feelings for one another, but Misao is still being hunted by other demons who want to make her their bride. Not to mention that no one seems to know exactly what will happen once the ceremony to make Misao the bride actually occurs, but it seeming more and more ominous with every page. I am starting to think that by becoming a demon bride Misao will be forced to give up everything she holds dear in exchange - so how does she make that choice? And how does Kyo ask a girl he loves to make a choice that will be that hard and require such sacrifice?

This is a pretty good series thus far and thankfully has been much more than I expected. I will definitely be heading back to the library this week to pick up the next couple of volumes!

In this Black Bird, Kyo gives Misao a special pendant that will allow her to be protected from enemy demons. But foolishly she takes it off to enter the territory of Kuzunoha, an enemy demon, to find out what will happen to her and Kyo in the future by reading the Senka Roku. Kuzunoha tricks Misao and Kyo has to come to her rescue.
Misao and Kyo are both worried about what will happen to them in the future since Misao is a human and Kyo is a demon.
Id give this book a 10 or 5 stars. I LOVE this series and I'm deeper in it now. I recommend it to everyone who likes romances. Even if you're not into anime, they should read it. This book was similar to others in the series, but this one was one of the best because it has a twist...

Misao and Kyo relationship deepens as they begin to reveal to each other the depth of their feelings. Kyo, by giving Misao one his primary feathers as a magical talisman to keep her safe and Misao by more vocal protestations her love for him. However, just when things seem to be settling down, a new demon joins Misao's class and an old enemy returns. Unfortunately, an unexpected betrayal comes to have some deadly consequences. Also, how will Kyo and Misao survive the revelations held in the Senka Roku, the book detailing the last results of the fulfillment of the demonic prophecy?

The plot of this one was so intriguing. I love when previous villains team up in stories and this was no different. I was impressed that this one actually had some death in it. Way to actually show the stakes and how high they are. Still super Fez a la 70's Show humor, but it wasn't as bad as the first two volumes because there was no time for that in this with the heightened tension and stakes being so high.

Another day, another near rape for Misao. No wonder she's in love with Kyo--he's the only demon who hasn't tried to rape her.

Kyo is slowly becoming less of an ass, but he has a long way to go. Misao is such a damsel! So annoying! I wish she was stronger.

Misao is starting to trust Kyo and her feelings for him, he even gave her one of his few primary feathers that will keep all the other demons away from her and name her his own.

But Misao fears that if she falls for Kyo any deeper she would have to say goodbye to her life with her family and friends forever and enter the demons realm.

That cover. Oh yeah they are so in love aren't they? Anyway, this was just who will she choose? Does she love him and all that? And the guy is not making this easier is he? He's just a bit possessive and creepy. He makes Edward Cullen look like a gentlemen. A creepy stalker sure, but a gentlemen none the less. And we're just on the third volume for crying out loud. So why can't I stop reading?

I've had to accept that Misao is a more passive female lead thank I would like and that the relationship between her and Kyo is one of a dominant man and a submissive woman. For me there are enough things I like about the series to enjoy it but if that dynamic is not your bag then this isn't the series for you. Overall I thought this was a very angsty volume with lots of tension between Misao and Kyo that I enjoyed. The end was a bit more gruesome than I expected but I'm certainly interested to see what comes next.
