Making It Up
When Dr. Thomas Paulson receives a cryptic phone message from his very first boyfriend's mother after ten years, he leaps to the conclusion that JJ--Johnny Boudreaux-- is dead. His current lover, Alan, makes the same assumption. So imagine Thomas's surprise when returns to his home town to grieve and discovers that not only is JJ alive and well, but is getting ready to marry Thomas's old girlfriend.
Life can be funny sometimes, and in the course of Thomas's visit he discovers a lot of things that force him to examine his own actions, past and in the present. He's made mistakes, but so has Alan who has flown to Oak Grove, Arkansas to try to help his lover and best friend. But Alan's interference makes things even worse, leading Thomas to believe that he's blown every chance at happiness he ever had.

A great, angst-ridden romance. The only thing keeping it from 5 stars, in my opinion, is that during the story a lot of emphasis is placed on the first time the protagonists have penetrative sex, then it ends without showing any real physical intimacy between the main characters. Even though the ending felt like a bit of a let-down, I still really enjoyed the story. TC Blue always packs just the right emotional punch that I like in romance.

I find that T.C. tends to soothe that not knowing burn in her stories, meaning that she writes in a way that you get all sides and perspectives of the characters in her books. I can read what each of them is thinking, what they have planned as the plot thickens.
This story is well written and detailed to my reader's satisfaction and it takes every character in this book to get JJ and Tommy together and you can read what role they partake in just to make it come alive and happen. I couldn't put this one down and plowed through it just to see how it would end. There were times where parts of the story got my hackles up, but that's what makes a great story... all the drama, drama, drama.

Overmuch perspective and characters, yeah this story had a feeling of real life but with poor organized of that two things made this so boring. Some situations and characters didn't even have any impact to the plot, the author just created and discarded them later. The main characters which I mean Thomas and JB are just ... slightly bland. Oh I mean this two characters seems more like human' life-like but hey, aren't they learning something in their separated, a decade of life? They acted as they are teenagers whose didn't know how to re-acted to each other and overall situations with more mature behavior than this.
Okay, it is fun to read and it is a romantic fiction, what else I expect? But seriously, I think this is a waste of my time.

"I have really mixed feelings about this book. Although the basic story and writing were fine, I was frustrated about two major points. The first was the shifting point of view - the story shifted around and was told from various people's perspectives, often differing from paragraph to paragraph and with little or no warning. I found this more confusing than helpful. The second? I wanted to slap the three main male characters throughout much of the book, which isn't conducive to a good reading experience."

Dr. Thomas Paulson hadn’t visited home, a small town in Arkansas, since he ran away after breaking the man he loves heart. He ran all the way to Los Angeles, trying to move on. His current boyfriend knows that Thomas has been holding back, but when he intercepts a message from Thomas’ ex-boyfriend’s mother, Alan hatches a plan to get JJ and Thomas back together again. But can it really be that easy to just throw the two of them together again? Lots of obstacles are bound to get in the way with Alan letting Thomas believe that JJ is dead; JJ about to walk down the aisle; and Thomas still together with Alan.
This was a fun read with several twists and turns along the way. There were several instances of miscommunication and paths crossing which can be a bit tiresome, but the end result was fun and explosive. This was a very well-paced read with enough going on to fuel the story forward. Some relationships seemed a bit underdeveloped, but the relationship between JJ and Tommy was easy to relate to and constant, even after being apart for so many years. Blue definitely mixed things up with this setting and the set of characters, and it ended up being an entertaining and engaging read.
The sex between the main characters did not occur until very late in the read, so not a hot and steamy read from the get-go. But when they finally got together, the sex added to their already strong connection. There were also a few sexual encounters with unlikely characters that were very hot, which had me thinking: “that’s so hot; but wait, I don’t want that to happen; but it’s so hot.” Very tame and vanilla, but hot nonetheless.

If you want a love story that has very little sex in it, run out and get this book. It seemed to have a cast of hundreds.... Ok tens ;-) which was really neat, these two, Tommy & JJ are well connected in their little town. It also had romantic interventions by committee, moms, dads, best friends, exes, mentors and a sweet love story. TC Blue really did well with this one.

New-to-me author - I enjoyed this book and would track down TC Blue's backlist.
A funny and heart-warming read overall, though there was just too many characters and POVs for me to really connect with them. I liked the small-town community feeling in this one. There was an attempt at angst but I don't think that really worked.

A pretty sweet true love romance.
This did not go the way I was expecting at all. I was a little disapointed there was no real angst with Alan. Instead this is a sweet true love conquers all kinda read, although thankfully there is no instant fix. There were comedy moments and certain scenes and scenarios were bordering on the Soap Opera kind, but overall an enjoyable light hearted read.

I very sorry ,because I like the books of Blu's but the story by Making it up is really a mess of characters and plot. I think this story is little credible especially for the character of Tommy. Beside there are more passion and chemistry between JJ and Alan than with Tommy. Very nice instead the relationship of complicity between all other hetero married couples.

3.5 stars. I really like T.C. Blue's writing style, but like Amanda said in her review, I felt a bit let down by the ending of this one. I thought that more could have been done with the reunion of the 2 guys.

Well written and funny - no depth, no fluff, not much angst, just a very enjoyable story.
