Brilliant young Eugene has to hit the books both day and night! After all, as an impoverished scholarship student, he's got to keep his grades high or he'll get expelled. Too bad he's attracted the attention of the school's most sought-after guy...the incredible Prince Willis! Why is a royal hunk obsessed with a scrawny, fussy nerd?
It is a little uncomfy because of the sa parts. I do like the prince x nerd dynamic, but not the comparisons of the nerd with the prince's mother. Kind of odd. I'm probably reading the second one though, at least.
Eugene is just an ordinary student, struggling to make it an elite school on a limited income when he attracts the eye of the bored media star, Prince Willis. The prince decides he must have Eugene, only none of his usual tricks which impress other people are working. From that point on, Prince Willis engages in a variety of hilarious antics to become part of Eugene’s life. The prince is driving his beloved crazy, yet somehow Eugene can’t bring himself to hate him. Is Eugene softening around his persistent suitor in spite of himself? Will Willis win the heart of his beloved, in spite of all the missteps and mishaps he keps making?
This is what happens what a traditional sonnet turned into a yaoi comedy or at least that’s impression this book gave me. :) Veering between the cute and the manic, this story takes a playful poke at stereotypes, yet character shines through the stereotypes, given time. Not enough to disturb the goofy ambience of the story, yet it allows a little sweetness to trick through. All of this was depicted in a striking, distinct style which lends itself well to camp, drawing on likenesses to classic tropes in a way many a yaoi fan will enjoy, while retaining its own charm.
Eugene is really poor scholarship college student. He's ultra serious, studious type. Prince Willis is his exact opposite. He's wild and fun. And he falls madly in love with Eugene from the first moment they meet (although this is a bit weird as Eugene was forcibly dressed as a girl by his friends and drug to a party, upon fleeing he runs into Willis, literally, and Willis remarks how much Eugene looks like his dead mother - Oedipus complex much you say?).
Anywho, the several chapters in this volume have Willis using any zany antic he can think of to spend time with Eugene. And Eugene rebuffing him in the most deadpan of ways.
I've placed the dubcon/noncon on this because Willis does sexually harass Eugene as is typical of yaoi, but there is no sex between the two male characters in this volume. Also there is a scene between Eugene and a professor which is definitely noncon.
Welk. I absolutely hated this. This was a genre I wanted to try for the first time this year, so I don't know if it's this title specifically or just that the genre is not for me. I have a feeling a little of both, but I think this was definitely not a good place to start. (Pretty much just chose it because it's on KU.) I have been reading and enjoying a lot of m/m graphic novels recently, so that's not the issue. This just had zero storyline and barely any character depth. Pretty sure it's just bad...
The artwork is nice but I must admit I found the book confusing. First, it's hard for me to read comics properly on a 27 inch desktop monitor, let alone a 7-inch e-reader screen. Second, and probably what led to the biggest problem, I am not familiar with Japanese comic format and how to read it. So even though the book I read was in English, there was much of it I couldn't understand. When I figure out the proper way to read manga, I may try it again. But for now, 3 and a half stars is the most I can give it.
In terms of enjoyment I liked this book but I was also glad I didn't purchase a copy for myself - thus the 4⭐️ rating. It could also be because it was not a physical book and I normally buy my manga's in paper form.
Relentless Playboy Prince + Uninterested Scholarship Student = One Flustered Scholarship Student + A Great Read
The Prince is my favorite character so far and makes for a good read. I like the bantering between the two main character. It's definitely a cute short read.
I love this yaoi manga. Prince Willis is hilarious. I like his witty retorts even in the most inappropriate time, the way he disguises his intelligence with his crazy antics.
I don’t understand why the mangaka drew these pouting lips all the time. As for the story, it was fun at first, but the lack of progress in the plot and the romance makes it tiring to read.
Niente di speciale, soliti personaggi, uno biondo e uno moro, uno spavaldo e uno schivo, solita storia e solite dinamiche. I disegni non sono proprio di facile apprezzamento, ma era compreso nell'abbonamento Kindle Unlimited.
Eugene is at school on a scholarship and he is trying to keep his nose to the grindstone so he doesn't lose his tuition. Unfortunately, one of the students has taken a liking to poor Eugene....the popular and quirky Prince Willis! Prince Willis is completely obsessed with Eugene and his antics to get Eugene to pay attention to him are borderline stalker-ish. The Tricky Prince is an apt title because Prince Willis will stop at nothing to get his way. This was a pretty good read - I didn't love it because Prince Willis got a little bit too obnoxious for my tastes but there is some humor involved.
4/1/11: It's not the most memorable manga in the world, but it's rather interesting (at least I think...). I remember reading this probably late 2009 at the book store; I remember wanting to find out what happens next and all that :p Kind of sad that I don't remember it; But the title does ring the bell so I may re-read it someday, but not today.
Cute storyline, the characters are adorable and the art is well done. I have no idea why the rating was 18+ plus though, nothing warranted it. A little disappointing, I was hoping for a few more graphic scenes. [return]A fun little story for a bad day.
It is ridiculous, misleading, anticlimactic and entirely ... did I mention ridiculous?> But I loved it. Especially the way it mocked itself and broke the fourth wall. Repeatedly. Fabulous.
I loved this one! The Prince is so forthright, but hilarious. And Eugene just thinks he's mental. All the stories are well fleshed out and fun to read. Better than advertised!
