Odette is now a sophomore at her high school. She still wants to be as close to human as she can, but finds out she still has a long way to go. From wanting to be 'cute' by wearing nail polish, to making a 'tasty' bento that people would be happy to eat, and trying to figure out the different kinds of 'like', Odette faces each challenge head-on with the help of her friends Yoko, Chris, Professor and, of course, Asao.
鈴木ジュリエッタ Suzuki Julietta is a Japanese manga artist born in the Fukuoka Prefecture. Her pen name comes from a character named Julietta Sakamoto from the seinen manga series, Air Master. She likes cats, koalas, and sharks. According to an interview with Hakusensha, she first started drawing when she was in her second year of elementary school in a sketchbook of Japonica. During her free time, she meets her friends, goes for a drink, or out for a meal. She states that although she doesn't read much, she enjoys works by Junji Itō. Her favourite character is Ashia and mentions that male characters are easier to draw in general.
Odette has just entered her second year in high school along with Chris! Even though she has Chris to dote on now Odette still finds time to get into trouble, and ponder another new human emotion. Liking someone. That is a hard one, isn't it? And after a small accident in the hallway... one of the freshmen have fallen for her..?!
Better, but still pretty weak. Definitely not as good as Suzuki-san's other series. However, I am starting to really enjoy a couple of the characters, specifically Asao and Chris. But, the plot just sort of jumps around, and I'm not really sure what the point is. I think it might be because Odette doesn't show a lot of emotion, but I'm confused how all these characters are falling for her. If this story was IRL, I think Odette would have had a much harder time making and keeping friends.
4.75 !! i absolutely love odette because she feels like an actual robot to me rather than some books that write robots off to me. her blank expressions are so cute and her figuring out how to be “human” feels super real to me and kinda makes me notice how much i take for granted 😭 like how she tries to make pretty food but it just tastes like dog shit makes so much sense because it would be so obvious to a human that gummies dont go in omelettes, as well julietta suzuki’s art style is so 🤌

I think I enjoy this series a lot more than Kamisama Kiss. Odette & co. feel more pure... or maybe I mean, more earnest than the characters in Suzuki's later series.
Odette continues going to school and this year, she finds herself accompanied by Chris, the android who was originally sent to kill the professor. Odette is so precious, both in a good way and in a not-so good way. Now with Chris, she gets to act as the more knowledgeable older sister, instructing him on what she's learned along the way and protecting him as the situation demands.
With Karakuri Odette, there's a lot of insistence on the impact of seemingly throwaway moments in our lives. I thought the scene where Asao's younger sister asked Chris to pick a candy, and he picked the peach one (since it was the color of Odette's hair) was really cute. I also liked the scene where Yukimura didn't yell at Odette for spilling juice on his pants (in comparison to Asao, who threw a royal fit when Odette threw the bento all over him). For one person, such moments may not mean anything whereas for another person, those moments mean all.
