Una de las cosas que más me gustan de The Climber son sus saltos temporales, y en este volumen tenemos uno de cuatro años. Esto permite ver a Mori de una manera diferente: más maduro, con ideas moldeadas por sus experiencias tanto en el ámbito personal como en el alpinismo. Este recurso narrativo da la sensación de que avanzas junto con la obra, y me parece un gran acierto.

Este enfoque permite explorar reflexiones que suelen quedar fuera de las historias más idealistas de los spokon clásicos. Aquí vemos temas como buscar un trabajo, abandonar ciertos sueños, centrarse en la conexión con la naturaleza, aislarse o encontrar una manera de contribuir a la sociedad. Contrasta mucho con aquella ocasión en la que a Mori le ofrecieron un trabajo y no dudó en rechazarlo. Ahora, la situación es completamente diferente, reflejando cómo, con el paso de los años, nuestros pensamientos y reflexiones cambian según la etapa de vida en la que nos encontramos.

We pick back up, four years after the disaster, with Mori working alone on Mt. Fuji. He's simulating climbs, working out, and doing some actual work for the environment and stuff. Not doing actual climbing, not exactly progressing towards his goal, sort of keeping to himself at his own pace. I'm really not sure where the manga is going from here but I'm enjoying him trying to fit his unique skillset and passion to the rest of society, and I really like seeing him carve out his own little niche.
