I’m pretty sure Ellis has an encyclopedia knowledge of all things sci-fi and fantasy. After nearly 20 novels, he’s still manages to surprise and delight with new ideas, new threats, and a hint of an old enemy.
The team is in the ruins of Chicago looking for the Opwration Chronos facility that is supposedly in the ruins. This leads them to a showdown with an old enemy who’s actually helped them in the past. Sindri is back in a big way, no pun intended. He had saved Domi from the implode grenade and the imperator wars miniseries, and now he has another wicked plan, not only to rule forever, but to live forever. He’s discovered the secrets of the Chronos, and plans to use Kane, Brigid and Grant as test subjects by sending them far back in the past to try to end entropy.
Another bizarre group is introduced, the Furies, and more mystery of bounds as to where they’re actually from and who they are. Wearing highly specialized suits that protect them from nearly everything and faceless shields over their own faces to hide their identities. These bizarre new enemies are definitely going to be bringing some interesting elements to the Outlands.
Tons of action, tons of mystery and a bastard of a returning enemy, make this another fantastic novel, especially the ending, which sees Kane jump from the frying pan into the fire, and then out of the fire into the complete building and golfed in flames! A great ending!

Set in the same world as the Deathlands series. These books follow another set of adventures in the post holocaust world. Good men's adventures series. Recommended
